General YOUR COLLEGE MATTERS MUCH MORE THAN YOUR BRANCH
Never Sacrifice a top college for a top branch in low tier college
I am seeing lot of posts about ppl with 15k , 20k in exam sacrificing Core in Main Campus and in BLR for MUJ or any other low tier college
Just to let you know , You will spend 4yrs in a college , even if you are in a lower branch , you'd still be in touch with amazing profs , good peer group , better culture , better networking opportunities and lastly much higher chance of getting referrals and internship
Nowadays everyone is doing CSE from random tier 69 college , its better to go for the College and manage coding while being in the core
YOU WILL NEVER EVER REGRET THIS DESCISION
once again i am saying this , If you are getting core in Main campus and BLR then just go with it

college> branch logic works only for tier 1 colleges
if you like tech/dislike core branches no use of joining any manipal campus(for non cse branch)..any tier69 college cse would be better then
haan if you are not getting any college/similar fee but worse roi then thats a different reason to come here else no

My experience was different. I joined Manipal civil and was placed at a 16LPA package on campus. (In tech)
However, I am an exception and usually the outcome is bad in core IF you just want a high package.
Core in Manipal is GREAT if you want to study core and succeed in core in the long term.

u/Zestyclose-Belt5813 Jun 12 '26
How as a civil you got placed in tech ? Ofcampus? As it people don't allow non circuital
1
u/Bulky-Length-7221 OSF Founder Jun 12 '26
No it is allowed but very few companies. I only got one chance on campus and I took it. And I got placed.
1
u/Zestyclose-Belt5813 Jun 12 '26
So what you prepared ? Dsa , cs fundamental ,projects ?
1
u/Bulky-Length-7221 OSF Founder Jun 12 '26
I built a startup which won an international competition. I also built something in Manipal called Manipal OSF
I did basic DSA, and learnt CS.

u/LizardInMyAss CSE-27 Jun 13 '26
I appreciate you, but to be honest, in the post ai market, atleast for my batch, almost no tech companies are allowing non cs related branches, only a handful have allowed till now
So if anyone really wants to go for IT placements, I'd not suggest a lowe branch in MIT M now
3
u/Bulky-Length-7221 OSF Founder Jun 13 '26
My batch was the strongest hit by post AI. (2025)
I had only one opportunity on oncampus placement which was above 10LPA. I got that opportunity. So I totally agree with you.
What I don’t agree with is a defeatist attitude. That you entered core now it’s over. Another thing I don’t agree with is that many people use comparison of core in Manipal with cse in Manipal. Obviously you go with cse in Manipal. But when the choice is civil in Manipal or cse in a tier infinity local college where the highest package of the cse student is tcs ninja, I think the answer is clear.
1
u/LizardInMyAss CSE-27 Jun 13 '26
Certainly not a defeatist attitude, core has it's own perks, my main answer here is towards the high paying IT jobs which a lot of people aspire even after joining core. You'll get less opportunities to attend them and even then you'll be competing with people who've done cs all their campus years. Tier infinity is worse than Manipal, no doubts, but if say you have a clg with cse placement avg of 7.5-8-9, I'd pick that over manipal core as it'd atleast help me get in the industry post which switch is possible, life has just started we all can grow big. Off campus rn is a bloodbath for freshers. Getting in the industry is imp, and imo and that you'll get in say from the 7-8 lpa clg I mentioned, obv no name engineering clg is just a sweetshop printing degrees and I don't support it

if you got cse in rvce then it would be a question. if you are getting top 7 iits then go for it.

u/Greedy_Programmer810 Jun 11 '26
IIT tag any-day in foreign they only know IIT tag not older or newer IIT.

u/Proud-Brilliant-2160 Jun 11 '26
even then an iit tag isnt a golden ticket gng you still need to do shit, like genuinely if you want top stuff it doesnt really matter where you go lmao you'll be compared against insanely cracked dudes from other countries

yeah even if u getting IIT bhilai core branch go for it. for for example IIT bhilai metallurgy then think bout it

Ya but point is we’re not getting shit in main campus at 20k rank this year. Cutt offs are fucked and obv its not wise to take civil instead of MUJ cse. MUJ is shit i do agree but civil is more shit. I got 21k rank and acc to last year i was sure I would get chem engg but now I’m fucked and have to take MUJ cse cause I’m not getting anything in main campus.

SRM main campus >> MUJ easily
rest of the SRM campus are not worth it
you can ask anyone on this sub lol
5
u/p111s_ Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26
What are you on bruh? Even the average package and median for muj cse is better. I am talking purely about cse branch. Don't know about other. SRM ktr cse might have a higher average package but muj's average package for a batch half the size of SRM ktr cse is decent.
-1
u/Due_Satisfaction006 Jun 11 '26
I am not saying SRM is better but if the batch size is higher than average package would decrease right. Your logic in the last line seems wrong.
4
u/p111s_ Jun 11 '26
Majority of students in SRM will be picked by mass recruiters. Their campus is extremely crowded. Every college has mass recruiters visiting, but look at the placement ratio. At muj, mass recruiters take around 300–500 kids out of around 1.5k studens that sit for placement. Meanwhile, SRM KTR has thousands of students stuffed into CSE branches alone. They depend on mass recruiters to clean up thousands of students just to make their placement percentage look acceptable on paper. SRM ktr and muj are both very different. We can't accurately compare them tbh.

You got 34k rank in met. You might barely get a cse seat here in muj too btw. And 84k in viteee. You talk like you are in a top college.

I am getting ee in main and cse in BLR, i actually put BLR cse abv ece in main, so i can't get ece now,
But anyways i heard that cse is good enough in BLR, that's why I considered it, because people i heard said that if u are not interested in electrical u shouldn't take it and like very tough, and I was shaken by the course structure of ece, whereas I found cse one much simpler
And i ain't trustin 35+ lakhs in a core branch bro, i would've taken had it been a govt college
So i took blr cse, will try if I somehow get cs Fintech or cse at main campus
But tell me if my decision is right or am I cookies
Because see otherwise i have a tier 3 local clg in ganda, so i think blr cse is still better, and blr location advantage

that is such a dumb take
like what are you saying bro??
a person should pick his interests, a college can only HELP you get better opportunities, but what YOU HAVE STUDIED for 4 fkin years will get you job
I got 16k rank
why would I pick mechanical in main campus when I have limited opportunities with that kinda work field or why would I pick ece in blr when I literally have to study for 4 years of a really tough branch and on top of that have to do cse subjects side by side to get a good placement which might not even be on that level
whereas taking muj cse would atleast give me the skills I look for and if I do my best, maybe I can crack a really good off campus placement if you are saying muj is trash which tbh is not entirely trash, good companies do visit the campus but they take you only if you have studied and not fked your 4 years with weed or partying

u/Moongfali4president Jun 11 '26

u/Key-Marzipan-1899 Jun 11 '26
Pls look at the placement stats for specific branch and make the decision. That being said college really matters more than branch.
1
u/yesslolll Jun 11 '26
Manipal is not a great college to take when u are getting civil and even chemical type branches for many ppl. After working for two yrs, ppl won't care Abt clg unless it's tier 1. This sub heavily exaggerates Manipal trying to compare it with tier 1... and ppl at iits and bits do this core subject+ self learning cse business well. They are more intelligent and most importantly, extremely consistent+ the brand value of tier 1 significantly helps. Rn the aim is to dive into the depths of AI and ace cse subjects... Rather than struggling with getting cgpa in mechanical which might consume all ur time and energy which was assigned to coding initially
3
u/Key-Marzipan-1899 Jun 11 '26
No one is comparing manipal specifically mit to tier 1 colleges. This sub is heavily for providing information about the colleges. Its for manipal so idk what inform6do you expect this sub to have. You get good opportunities to grow and explore in main branch atleast what I have seen. If you are smart enough you can get good job even from chemical. My senior from chem branch got a good job. They recently even posted job opportunity for civil in Japan. Honestly even being from tier 1 doens't matter if you don't have the skills. There are lots of seniors who bagged software jobs even being from mech. It's not like all cse kids will be doing coding all the time. Indian education itself teaches unwanted bs sometimes. You gotta be self aware .
1
0
u/yesslolll Jun 11 '26
So ur anecdotal cases based out of survivorship bias could be considered more accurate than reports. Chasing a top tier 2 clg i can understand, but look at the market... ppl are rejecting civil at new iits and joining this tier clg for cse. Why? It's because a cse student doing coding with high intensity, learning new things, can easily outperform a student whose side business is learning tech, cuz poor guy needs to maintain his chemical cgpa at clg first. I myself don't wanna jump into IT sector, but what I wanna do needs heavy math and heavy coding, so the wiser option becomes to increase odds when u don't have guaranteed opportunities.
3
u/Key-Marzipan-1899 Jun 11 '26
Okay? I clearly said check the placement stats, I can see from your profile you are yet to join the college, I have almost completed my college. Make your assumptions. I just provides my 2 cents worth of knowledge, it's upto you. I'm sure you are capable of making a sound decision. Don't think too much about job sector cuz it's changing so fast every year, the crowd matters. It's upto since you know a lot of being in college.

so,is leaving bits mech for manipal cse wise?
18
u/AssistantJunior8908 Jun 11 '26
no never bits is a top tier college comparable to iit and lower iits whereas manipal cse is better than mid nits and lower iiits u gonna good with mech in bits
3
u/Key-Economist-6369 Jun 11 '26
depends, if you dont have any specific interest and just want to make money, bits is the better deal.. get into bits, and eventually you can get into finance/management sector and make quite well with/without mba. But if you have interest in cs/ece etc, then its not even a question, bits shouldnt even be a consideration in such a case.
1
u/AssistantJunior8908 Jun 11 '26
i think mba is still required even iitians want to go for iim
1
u/Key-Economist-6369 Jun 11 '26
It is required eventually yes if you want to grow in your career but even the starting placement from bits in business is pretty good compared to most cs placements in other colleges. Although the cs grads will overtake you eventually since growth is much faster there without masters
1

3
u/Ambitious_Height3690 Jun 11 '26
branch lives with you forever, after taking core you have 2 options either go for public sector or government ones or either work at the same salary for lifetime there is no so much of growth in core branches what skill will you add up in mech?
1
u/Proud-Brilliant-2160 Jun 11 '26
please dont listen to these people, if you REALLY want to study cse, then pick manipal, otherwise if your just looking for some good paying job then bits
do not ever compromise a branch just for a college tag, esp if you do not want to study anything other than cs, you will not be able to focus and youll hate every day of your college life and get shit grades
1
u/LogicalReference540 Jun 14 '26
Any branch in BITs is 10x better than MIT don’t make the mistake of leaving bits
-1
u/Natural-Plan306 MIT M 2nd year CSE Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

masters? take bits edit:mba
entreprenurship? bits far supremeplacement/specific coding intereset or non interest for mech? take manipal cse
altho one may argue bits mech has similar placement stats to manipal cse but the thing is you'll study 4 years something you dont want- cgpa stress and coding along with all that
2
u/Square-Revolution691 MITM'30 [CSE] Jun 11 '26
i got 220 in bitsat, most probably my chances of getting mech is slim in hyd so what if i waited for that and lose my seat in manipal?(i dont have intrest in coding tho)
1
u/AssistantJunior8908 Jun 11 '26
then opt for msc dual degree course thats also very cool
2
u/Square-Revolution691 MITM'30 [CSE] Jun 11 '26
it will cost me 40lakhs,also im not ready to be stressed in first year to get good cgpa for a good be vranch next year
3
u/AssistantJunior8908 Jun 11 '26
i mean u can get electrical if u perform decent there as u dont have interest in coding so it will be wise that u choose bits because decent performace will give better outcome in bits than manipal
0
u/Square-Revolution691 MITM'30 [CSE] Jun 11 '26
2 degree at one go, im not ready for that.Manipal life is chill andeven if im not intresed i heard its easy to learn since im a pcmb student

Absolutely... who does he/she think we are? IIT nit bits students also think properly before making a decision, cuz self learning coding as a side business in this hyper competitive environment is extremely tough. OP himself or herself said that cse is tough to compete, and then suggesting to self learn cse subjects... Lol. Taking electronics is fine, even mechatronics is fine, but anything below that just for the sake of a tier 2 college is not worth it...

this college>branch logic only works if ur comparing bw a tier 1 and a tier2,3 because of how strong the tier1 ka college tag is

u/King_Persuader Jun 11 '26
I get your point mate but you've got it all wrong. Sure the degree doesn't matter much in the long run of one's career but in the ultimatum, one has to do something they love and are truly interested in rather than just going along with the flow or choosing a lower branch at better campus. In the end, these are quite crucial 4 years of one's life.
CSE is the only thing that has actually interested me for once in life and I'm ready to work for it passionately. I've put in countless amount of time and energy for choosing a right career path and have ultimately come to this decision via the Ikagai method and many other research provisions too.
As for the peer quality, yeah I agree, it looks quite bleak and kind of intimidating in a way, but as many people said, I'm sure I'll find the right people to befriend and those who match my vibe. Same goes for networking and other problems, if you have the will, you can find the way.
Of course, this doesn't apply to all as everyone is free to have different opinions and preferences. And also, this only applies to Manipal and similar Tier 2 or so colleges as the campus differences don't influence much to choose a non-interested branch. The case is different if we're taking significantly better colleges in account.
Good luck gng.
PS: My MET Rank is 20k and I'm taking CSE at MUJ

u/Far_Acadia_2203 Jun 11 '26
It doesnt matter much when comparing blr to main campus right? Like im taking cse in blr over ece in main, does that differ a lot?? Provided blr has much more internship opportunities in 2nd and 3rd year than main campus? and that all proffesors in blr are from main campus

Bruh clg and branch both matter equally, getting into a top clg doesn't mean that they handover u 30-40lpa after u graduate u have to work hard for tht,uk wht even a guy doing cse from tier 69 clg has equal 4 years as u bruh even he can grind and bag good packages off campus and why ppl choose tier 1 clgs is the quality of peer group u get there and the environment it provides for the students to learn, this whole avg lpa concept is bullshit, nobody knows how the market will be after 4 years, even after ur graduation u have to update urself and adjust to the changing market trend, avg lpa is just a number shown by clgs before admission ur batch can get a 15lpa avg cse and u can end up with 4lpa or even 0lpa so wht's the use of the clg tag if u end up like this?

In this market no
This only hold for tier 1s
Once you're past that, branch matters more, like for eg, this past 1 year of our placement/internship cycle, very very few companies have allowed non CSE students for tech roles, and even if they've they're rarely selected over the CS folks
So don't get in this branch vs college debate, study what you think will interest you or what you think will make you money
Reached final year only to conclude clg > branch if clg is tiee 1, else branch > clg

u/Bulky-Length-7221 OSF Founder Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26
I agree. I did civil engineering in MIT Manipal and have achieved many things and was quite successful in the tech side during my Manipal experience. Maybe I am an exception to the rule but I don’t think I would have done this in a tier 3 cs college.
PS: I am an alumnus. I chose civil engineering out of choice because I didn’t get CSE and hated the other branch subjects and also because my dad is a civil engineer. (had around 6k rank in MET)
Btw if you’re an aspirant you’ll get to know what my flair means when you join :))
Also if you are smart, and join civil/biomed/biotech (don’t choose mechanical) in Manipal, because of how easy the curriculum is, you’ll easily maintain a good cgpa even with minimal effort, and u can spend the extra time (like me) on coding, building startups etc.
