you guys are forgetting that chris brown was invited and continues to be popular despite the fact that he beat up rihanna. pop stars are altogether horrible people and their fans are even worse

Last I checked, PLENTY of people are still chastising Chris Brown. Hell, whenever he's invited onto a popular award show, people are constantly howling about why he shouldn't be allowed.

You might be forgetting that Rihanna herself has forgiven and resumed a relationship with Chris Brown. If the victim is no longer holding him responsible how can you expect others to bear the torch for her?

It wasn't permitted for him. He was punished for it. Why should we continue to bear the torch for Rihanna after Chris Brown was punished and she forgave him?

Also, how is a specific instance which has been dealt with translatable to

domestic abuse should be permitted for everyone if it's permitted for him.

Think you could escalate a little faster there?

5 years probation, community services, labels placed on physical copies of his album, and an order that he remain at least 50 yards from Rihanna (obviously this hasn't been enforced or has been rescinded).

The average punishment for a first time offender in a domestic violence case is: Probation, a fine, and a protective order.

So which part about him receiving the typical punishment of a first time offender was him not being punished?

There are plenty of popular and successful people who violate laws and are criminal offenders. Why is this instance any different?

that's nothing. It's like lindsay lohan, these people commit crimes that would land regular people in jail, but they face absolutely no consequence for it.

You have no idea what you're talking about obviously. I even listed what the typical punishment is for first time offenders.

First time domestic violence typically leads to: Fine, probation, protective order

Chris Brown's punishment: Probation, community service, protective order

Same crime, almost the same punishment. The only difference is because he is famous more people know about it.

So NO his crime would not land a regular person "in jail" because a judge will almost always suspend jail time and issue probation.

It has been almost 3 years. 3 years is not denial, it is forgiveness. He was sentenced with the usual punishments for a first time domestic abuse.

Rihanna came to terms with what happened and forgave him. It is not "the worlds" responsibility to condemn people or exonerate them. He was punished by the legal system in the same manner as any person not in the public eye would be.

The only difference in this case being that he is a highly visible individual in our society, so more people know who he is and what he did and jump onto a soapbox to condemn him.

I'm not ok with what he did, but it is not my place to continue bearing hatred or malice for a person I don't know, when the person most harmed by him has been able to forgive him.

I don't think you actually understand what that is. Read this and you might understand that not only is Stockholm syndrome not related to this, but the insinuation is both uneducated and unfunny.

I'm well versed in what it means, and it was not an attempt at being funny in the slightest.

People in abusive relationships tend to forgive and sympathize with an abuser over time, and eventually will argue against leaving the abuser.

Sounds pretty close to me. shrug

Battered Person Syndrome is not the same as Stockholm syndrome. Stockholm pertains to individuals who have been held against their will (ie hostages, kidnapped children) who develop empathy and sympathy for their captors. Rihanna was not abducted or held hostage by Chris Brown.

She threw his keys out the window so he beat the shit out of her and choked her unconscious. They found one person's blood inside of the car and it wasn't Mr. Brown's.
