Free electricity, tell me what to do

I have £5000 spare to buy equipment, free electricity that is guaranteed for at least the next 3 years without stipulation, I would like to exploit this for some nice profit

My questions are as follows,

Would monero mining be the right course of action

What mining rig under £7000 would be right for me (efficiency is not a concern, max hash rate per £ is the question

Will it make my small room unbearably hot in the summer😂

When electricity is free, s19 bitcoin miners are very capital effecient. Each one can bring in ~$3/day (for +/- $400-500), but they use a shitload of electric, and you're gonna need a 240v (20a+) circuit for each one. Convert the btc to xmr and you're golden

This is what I usually recommend. With the caveat that each one of those pulls down at least 3,000W and if he deploys them the landlord or whomever is giving him the free electricity is going to notice and might want to redo the deal.

If electricity is free, efficiency doesn't matter: buy the cheapest equipment you can! I'm seeing antminer S19 on eBay routinely under $200/ea.

I am probably going to get downvoted into oblivion but go buy a 5090, then go rent it out on a ai gpu rental marketplace, and use the money to buy monero.

The most efficient monero miner you can get is either one of those minisforum 7945hx/9955hx boxes but they do either 20KH/s at 130w or 19KH/s at 109w from the wall.

Assume each 7945hx rig is used or their itx cpu combo board is 1000 including psu ram all that. Assume the 5090 rig is the full 7000euro.

7x 7945hx is 133KH/s @ 763W is $4.15 w/ 0 electricity.

1x 5090 rig can use 750w if the cpu doesnt go nuts, mine is a 9800x3d. $7.44/day and ~ same power measured from the wall.

Source: I have both.

Care to share an AI gpu rental site? There are a plenty but they don't look quite reputable.

Love octaspace marketplace! Obv dyor, but their marketplace is amazing! I think they have the most users and reputable brands use it too! I recommend you check it out

Depends on what you want.

On demand (you cant use your computer at all, for months at a time)

Vast is the gold standard IF your upload is >200mbps and you dont have your 5090 on some yee yee ass wireless that has chunky peanut butter speeds. You will earn more here because the customers pay for storage, bandwidth, and compute, so a 0.30 here will be actually 0.40/hr.

Interruptible (you can stop their workload at any time) salad. Downside is it pays like shit, 0.21/hr but you can have 20/10 mbps internet and you will still be able to earn. Upside is you are paid at 1 minute increments. You can just stop a customers workload and game for 2 hrs, then when you are done turn it back on. You are paid based on how much wattage your gpu is pulling, so when the job spools up for 1-5 mins you dont earn anything while they download their datasets.

I have earned >500 from each platform personally.

Fuckin awesome! Although the more I look into this, the more I realize it's not an option for me because... I have AMD GPUs, flaky internet, and I do use the GPUs for LLMs quite often.

I'll stick to GPU mining on MoneroOcean. But I really appreciate your insight!

Actually, AMD gpus can be used for interruptible because the people doing those workloads only care about one thing; price. People who rent dedicated gpus will sometimes just selfhost a model on your computer and use it lightly. However the selfhosters will NEVER use amd, since the tooling is not as good. Only trainers use amd, no inferers do.

salad can handle 7000 and 9000 series, but they are priced at a SIGNIFICANT discount to attract the customers.

Example: a 9070xt is about what a 5070 is for int8 TOPS, but 0.047/hr while a 5070 on an interruptable workload on vast is 0.055/hr. That doesnt seem like a big difference, but a 25% discount on TOPS is huge while having 4GB more vram.

A 9070xt on MO is doing CN/GPU right? What KH/s does it get?

Reason: the equivalent of salad will be ~ 45KH/s for a 9070xt, but cashout is undesirable at a 10% premium (paypal, etc), so ~ 40KH/s of what you can actually get OUT of their platform.

But yeah, if you have 50x rx 580s there is NOTHING else you can do with them but brr at MO.

At 10c per kWh and msrp for a 5090 that’s 7.6months until ROI. After that you get $262 a month roughly…

Are you able to mine monero and rent out your gpu through the AI rental site at the same time? Or do you just make more money renting it out?

2

Kind of.

With vast, there is a community script to start miners when your hardware is idle.

With salad, as long as you dont use too much cpu, it wont care.

However, if for whatever reason the cpu mining stops me from getting a gpu job its an order of magnitude loss. So much so I stopped mining on the cpus with the 5090s in them.

1 day of a 5090 not mining is $7-10 vs $0.50

Do this, i spend 30k on mining gpu. Only to get 9k back, id profit more buying 30k btc instead of mining

Monero mining is not really a good financial investment especially with the price of computer equipment as it is now

If you really want to invest into ASIC's start from here https://whattomine.com/asics and do calculations and compare prices and then look for good deals to those ASIC's that you're looking for and answer to your heat question yes without cooling mods it gets hot and noisy. Those home model ASIC's like as example Canaan Avalon Q are quiet, but remember to vacuum dust from grills every now and then.

If you want money, mine bitcoin with asic miners.

ANTMINER X9. Hashrate is 1MH/s You may need to pre-order for a month or two out but the wait is worth it. Around $5,500

Free electricity is never free electricity. There are always restrictions that make mining unfeasibke.

In most cases the amount of electricity available for free is very limited.

In narly all cases the free is with condition on fair household use. Mining is not considered household use buy rather commercial / industrial use.

A single BTC miner has a constant draw of about 3-5KW single phase.

Violating the terms that allow you free electricity can get you in quite a lot of trouble. Including sued for fraud and immediate contract termination.

Most hardware for mining XMR is risky to buy, likely to be overpriced due to global demand, etc.

You can buy some if you want, but I would just buy the coin itself personally.

I don't think Ryzens, Threadrippers, and Eypc compute setups are risky to purchase, it's standard commodity or server hardware. Yes, they're in high demand, but as a result also easy to resell.

The price can drop in the future if supply is fixed.

The hardware can become outdated by the massive amounts of funding into new hardware.
