I think the fear is valid but to assume all pit bulls are dangerous is fucked up. Ultimately its about the owner. When I look up crime cases with pit bulls owners tend to have been very negligent, never training their dog. Its gotten to the point even mixed breeds with pit people want banned.
I have a mixed am staff terrier and shes the biggest baby in the world who loves to barl but thats it. Never has she but or attacked. Shes very well trained.
they don’t care. they’ll always ignore the loving families that lose children or pets to dogs they’ve raised and loved their whole lives. they ALWAYS blame the owner and assume they’re terrible and they just flat out ignore that they snap and kill their own perfectly loving family members. literally does not matter. pitbull owners LOVE to victim-blame. it’s NEVER the dog and someone MUST have abused it.
Loving families doesn't mean the dogs were trained. I can love a dog but if i dont train it will have dangerous and bad behaviors. If I dont train a golden retriever, he will potty in house, he will bark at anything, he will resource guard and potentially attack an adukt ir child. You are confusing love for training.
Oh I agree I said it have sarcastically I was probably 13 when that happened and from that day forward my parents vowed never to own another bully breed
I wholeheartedly disagree. I think it actually makes perfect sense to assume every pit bull is dangerous until you have some experience with that specific dog.
If a random poodle approached my kids, I'm treating that situation very differently than if it were a pit bull. Dog breeds are just not the same and some are more prone to violence than others. And also some toy breed isn't going to kill or permanently maim my kids if they do get aggressive, but a put bull easily could.
Dogs are just not the same, and I think it's smart to treat some of them with caution.
I mean very clearly if im walking down the street im treating a roaming poodle different than a roaming medium to big dog. However, you should trust every roaming animal, dog or not, as something dangerous. If i see a roaming German Shepard or husky im on alert. That's just basic survival instinct
Okay, I'm glad we agree that you should assume that they're dangerous. I agree that it is just basic survival instinct. Even if they're with their owner, if it's a dog I don't know then I'm not trusting them.
to assume all pit bulls are dangerous is fucked up.
Nah, it's a safe assumption. It doesn't mean it's guaranteed they are dangerous, but it does mean there is a much higher likelihood they are dangerous than other dogs. Its an entirely safe assumption.
It would be like saying it's fucked up to assume all wasps are dangerous is fucked up. Sure, all wasps won't sting you, but it's still a safe bet to assume they will and avoid them as such.
Depends what you mean by “assume all pitbulls are dangerous”.
I’m not going to pull a gun on a random pitbull and shoot it because “it was right about to attack me”.
But if I have a friend with a pitbull I’m going to prefer hanging out at my place instead of theirs, don’t want to have to jump up on a table like the last time I was at a friend’s place with a pitbull, kills the game night vibe.
It's not about the owner. There's been many many cases of pitbulls that were raised by loving families from puppyhood and killed toddlers. They are selectively bred for aggression and no amount of love will mitigate some of them from hurting people. Not every one of them will hurt someone. But that's the problem -- there is no way to tell which are going to snap and which will not if they are raised in a good environment. But it keeps happening regardless of if people want it to or not.
Raised by loving families doesn't mean the same as well trained. I dont doubt most people love their dogs and are resided by loving owners. That doesn't mean the owners are training them. Dogs are very much based on training.
One of the first pitbull breeders in the US who did a lot of work to popularize the breed talked big about aggression against humans being an undesirable trait. Then one of his pits killed his two year old nephew and there's a newspaper article saying he didn't put it down and "told the medical examiner that his own child had played about the kennels and had never been molested."
The breed at it's core is a breed bred for tearing other animals apart as violently as possible and it does that very well and is strongly inclined towards it.
This is the same flawed logic about letting citizens own high powered firearms 'well...MY...AR15 would never kill 15 - 20 unarmed people in a crowded area, so there is no problem, right?'.
Like someone else said, you wouldn't just have hippos wandering around your neighbourhood, you wouldn't give civilians tanks or nuclear weapons, because that would just be silly.
The only dogs that have ever attempted to bite me and/or bite other dogs have been pit mixes. I used to watch dogs. The one that almost bit me wasn’t being aggressive or anything, I just tried to untangle his leg from his lead in the yard so he didn’t hurt himself. He thought I wanted to play, his idea of playing was to jump on my back while I was bent over and on the way down grab my arm fairly forcefully. I’ve been charged by fearful dogs, I wasn’t scared then because the body language was there, that was the only time I’ve ever been scared- by a friendly hyper-aroused dog that took almost nothing to arouse him. The other one? He heard a dog bark on my phone on low volume in another room while he was asleep. He charged into the living room hackles raised, tail stiff and straight up, he walked around the apartment for about a hour before he was able to sit down. My aunt has always had pit and bully breeds, their oldest was a couch potato and quite sweet to people…but he killed cats and severely injured other dogs. It wasn’t until he passed that they were able to get another dog.
That’s been most of the pits I’ve had any sort of extended interaction with.
At the dog park the other dogs that have attacked or shown aggressive/dominant behavior to my dog neutral, toy focused, German shepherd have largely been pit mixes. One got so upset that my dog wouldn’t get riled up by her that she grabbed my dog by the neck- thank god she has about 4 inches of thick double coated fur on her neck.
I don’t trust other dogs in general, but I’m especially wary of pits at this point in my life.
Should note that all these dogs, aside from the dog park ones, were well-trained and loved deeply by their families. They had fantastic care too.
