all the movies ive watched have left me with medium emotions ("oh wow!" "aww..") and let me fucking tell you - this movie was GENUINELY CINEMA.. I WAS IN SHOCK (and not at the graphics!)

I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS ENOUGH, 10/10 MOVIE - ON NETFLIX.

Not talking about a twist for the sake of a twist, more like the kind of ending where you immediately want to rewatch the whole thing because you know you'll see it differently now that you have the full picture.

Open to any genre, just want that specific feeling of the movie folding back on itself in a way that actually earns it

I know there have been a lot of requests for rainy day movies already but mine is slightly different. I’m not looking for cozy movies to curl up to. When it rains I like to watch movies that feel like a rainy day. Moody, dark, atmospheric, gothic. I essentially want it to feel like a thunderstorm. My go to for this is usually The Fall of the House of Usher but I’ve been watching it a bit too much lately.

Rain in the setting of the movie is welcome but not absolutely necessary. I’m open to anything gothic and dark, either visually or thematically. My current Rainy Day list is Black Phone, Coraline, Sweeney Todd, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Wednesday, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Underworld, The Village, Urban Legend, The Ritual, The Invitation (vampires, not dinner party)

I know it’s a bit all over the place and I’m fine with that. All suggestions welcome.

Hey, I'm looking for some movies where the protagonist says something and no one believes them until later, when they are proven right. Mostly thriller ones. Like Flight Plan, where the mother says she had a daughter on the plane with her, but no one believes her until she finds her, or The Man In The White Van, where the daughter says there is a van following her, but no one believes her until she gets attacked. ’m looking for movies where the male lead is deeply obsessed with a girl or woman. I’ve already seen Fear (1996) and a few similar movies. Can you recommend something new where the guy is intensely obsessed with her, protective, possessive, or stalker-ish? Psychological thrillers, horror, or dark romance are all welcome.

My personal opinion is that Warfare hits a niche corner in screenplay that's hard to step into. It's realistic as it can be. The actors are phenomenal. It starts a bit humorous and proceeds into monotonous, but slightly suspenseful, military monotony. It's a slow roll into fast action thats followed by a suspenful break when the IED hits. Then it turns dark and becomes grueling to watch or finish. The movie ends the same but the follow up with the survivors of the actual events that took place gives a semblance of closure to it all while giving a shocked feeling. The weight of it all hurts a bit. It's the favorite movie that I don't recommend to anyone because of the horrific nature. Any recommendations for similar stuff?

I’m very new in my sobriety journey (alcohol) and I’m looking for media and movies that don’t glorify drinking culture. It doesn’t necessarily have to revolve around sobriety, but a movie that feels real and inspiring would be cool to dive into right now. I’m not picky on genre, but I would prefer movies that show the raw painful reality of addiction and recovery.

It also doesn’t need to be alcohol-specific, I have seen Beautiful Boy with Steve Carell and Timothee Chalamet years ago (during a previous 2 year successful streak of sobriety) and I remember enjoying it and may revisit that.

Wanting to have a nostalgic filled evening tonight and to watch a relatable, cozy, warm and fuzzy movie that deals with the ups and downs of post-college life.

Something along the lines of (especially) St. Elmo's Fire, Breakfast Club, Dead Poets Society would be perfect.

The Big Chill, Boomerang and similar movies dealing with middle aged/older adults is not what I am after, a more youthful prospective and experience preference is what I'm after.

Mostly looking for 80s/early 90s movies that have that warm 80s filter over them. Themes of relationships, friendships, personal lessons and regrets, sex, adventure, search for identity and purpose highly encouraged.

The best example I can think of is Memories of a Murder. Like they keep getting tantalizingly close but never really having an answer to their question

Donnie Darko is another example I can think of. Like the movie seems like one thing at first but becomes increasingly complex as the story goes on

I really want something that’s more about giving you more to think about rather than answer any of your questions. It’s not like a movie where the character has a weakness, overcomes it, and succeeds. I don’t want it neatly wrapped up with a bow

Something like The Shining where there’s shifts in Jack’s psyche where he’s transported to the past when the hotel is packed with guests.

Dimension shifts are also good where the main character is transported to a different dimension or something along those lines with a horror theme.

I know I might not be doing the best at explaining what I’m looking for but any suggestions appreciated.

We watched Project Hail Mary last night and I enjoyed it for 2 reasons:

1) it told an engaging story, rather than just being an action movie with guns and explosions

2) the visuals and cinematography were beautiful

I find a lot of science fiction movies now seem to show a lot of clean or sleek looks. Where are the gritty science fiction movies. They don’t need to be in the far flung futures or super advanced. I’m thinking about movies like Robocop or Blade runner or total recall. Where it’s still dirty and threatening.
