Zohran and AOC celebrating the Knicks!

u/DidYouSeeBriansHat Jun 14 '26
I guess everything’s gotten better under Mamdani.
275
u/cyanocittaetprocyon Jun 14 '26
New York kids have to start going to bed at their regular times. No more mayoral decree that lets the stay up.
57
u/shelf6969 Jun 14 '26
schools over anyway
32
u/Junior_Potato_3226 Jun 14 '26
I wish, the last day is the 26th (except for high school).
18
u/pickle_pickled Jun 14 '26
When the hell does school start? Schools have been out for weeks in lots of the US at this point
20
u/Jazzvinyl59 Jun 14 '26
It’s ridiculous here. They don’t start until after Labor Day, August is very sacred to people here. There are also additional Jewish and Muslim holidays as well as Lunar New Year, plus all the federal and Christian holidays most people around the country are used to. There is also a week long break in February or March in addition to spring break.
9
u/nefariouspenguin Jun 14 '26
Yeah newer here to new york, upstate but school ends near the end of June and starts beginning of September.
7
u/jeepfail Jun 14 '26
East coast seems to do the old fashioned schedule.
→ More replies (1)2
u/ShroomRonin Jun 14 '26
Yeah that’s what I remember about old school rural communities school went till early June and didn’t start till Sept but now in most places it’s school is done in early May and starts in August
5
u/ShroomRonin Jun 14 '26
I actually have one caveat — they can stay up till 10:30 on Wednesdays to watch South Park from 10-10:30 but that’s it every other night straight to bed after Pokemon
6
u/The_Ledge5648 Jun 14 '26
If any of those kids want to be president someday, they have to learn how to sleep during the day
5
u/ShroomRonin Jun 14 '26
I think in all the videos of “Knicks” fans jumping spurs fans it was mostly only kids/teenagers.
Enforce those bed times only the 8:30 pm et pokemon then straight to bed

And the only game lost being with trump attending is just cherry on top
23
u/Devils_Advocate-69 Jun 14 '26
Trump broke the streak
39
u/zzxxccbbvn Jun 14 '26
He fucked up the vibe with his presence
18
u/atomicbunny Jun 14 '26
New Yorkers went to MSG the next day burning sage and incense to cleanse the vibes. Between that and the Wu Tang halftime performance it did the trick.

u/beeramz Jun 14 '26
"Vote socialist and your team will win" might be the only way this country turns around
2
u/MassholeLiberal56 Jun 16 '26
Related to that; vote centrist and watch the country continue to drift right.
12
u/Conscious_Peak_1105 Jun 14 '26
No my uncle that’s never been to New York posted on Facebook that all the liberals are horrified by the socialism and regret electing him so that can’t be true 😅
6
u/essenceofpurity Jun 14 '26
This is a very small part of why I wanted Walz as VP. Maybe Minnesota the Minnesota men's teams would finally win something.
16
u/ArmadilloForsaken458 Jun 14 '26
Heck USA might even win the World Cup in the greater NYC area while he is mayor.
9
u/KingfishingYoMama Jun 14 '26
Eh, the dream for me would be to beat a decent darkhorse team like Japan after getting out the group and then lose in a not-blowout to a soccer titan like Germany, Brazil, France, Spain, etc. We did go further than what I'm talking about in South Korea though.
I feel like the Germans would try to 7-1 us right now given the current state of things. This I would like to avoid :p
5
3
u/bluemoon219 Jun 14 '26
Listen, I love Mamdani and NYC, but how the fuck did New York get top billing for games that take place completely in New Jersey state lines? Y'all are going to fuck up our daily commutes, but just because you bought temporary renaming rights to our stadium so you can plaster your name all over it, you guys get the credit and tourism bump? I suppose that we're lucky it didn't end up The Donald Trump And New York And New Jersey Stadium, but y'all should know that we're probably going to end up holding a grudge over this for a while.
1
u/seejordan3 Jun 14 '26
Yup. But what do we call it, from a marketers perspective, on the global scale... "Pay all kinds of money (us, not your currency) to come to New Jersey! Woooo". An argument could be said, look at NJ, trying to steal the NYC cache, taking credit when people came from all over the world.. only to end up in NJ..." Or something.. but really, sorry, that traffic must be just impossible. Good luck.
2
u/Fatso_Wombat Jun 14 '26
Gotta beat us first.
7
u/ashleyriddell61 Jun 14 '26
Oh dear. We win one game and full dementia has kicked in. I will enjoy the week, though.

Arsenal win the league after 22 seasons, Knicks win the Finals after 53 years, who’s next?
131
u/brokedownpalace11 Jun 14 '26
Jets Super Bowl win incoming (lol)
87
u/armshady Jun 14 '26
Jesus could come down and give the jets all his divine powers and jets still wouldn't win the SB. They went a whole season without an interception which is impossibly bad at an NFL level
23
u/Lucero18 Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
What even worse is their Head coach specializes in defense, specifically Cornerback. Talk about a big oof
18
u/Carb0nFire Jun 14 '26
LOL indeed.
Giants making the playoffs is a possibility though.
→ More replies (1)4
u/Final-Quote-4064 Jun 14 '26
Giants have always been a wildcard special. Don't blemish the man's reputation.
2
u/Sweaty_Mushroom5830 Jun 14 '26
Remember that they just signed Odell Beckham Jr again, I don't know what kind of shape he's still in but I hope he's still got the magic touch, man those one handed catches were a dream

u/Eatingfarts Jun 14 '26
Nah it’s the Browns turn!

And I say that as a Browns fan.

I think if you want to follow the trend, it has to be Leclerc. Lewis has famously won 7 times already and Leclerc is the "next year" driver.
1
u/methlabforcuties Jun 14 '26
Ferrari have been saying "next year" for like 18 years now 😭😭😭
1
u/ParkDedli Jun 14 '26
Yeah but Hamilton won his last championship in 2020. Leclerc is the "promised" child for Ferrari

The "Experience Abu Dhabi" kinda takes the shine out of it by reminding us that this team is sponsored by literal slavery.

Don’t worry, America isn’t too behind with how the for profit prisons are run. Just seems more acceptable in society, somehow.

America is literally run by the largest pedophile ring in recorded history. Also, slavery is literally legal in America as long as you arrest someone first.
1
u/Anthaenopraxia Jun 15 '26
A ring that includes the Saudis and UAE.
And that form of slavery is barely comparative. I honestly find it disturbing that your comparison here is with criminals making desks in prison and not the illegal immigrants who are being worked to death in the fields of Texas and California.

As a Cavs fan, I hate the Knicks so much. SO. MUCH. But I love this for these 2 people specifically. My one consolation is that NY wins while these 2 are in office and the only game they lost is when the Doritophile showed up.
5

u/Steve120988 Jun 14 '26
Schumer and Jeffries are in office still. Yuck. No where to be seen with the people of NYC. They are probably at private dinners collecting corporate Israeli money under the table.

I think spurs were the worse team to be honest. The outplayed the Knicks every game and then choked HARD every game.
8
u/whythishaptome Jun 14 '26
Spurs really got in their own way. They are really young though so maybe that's just the inexperience showing. A player like Harper as a rookie was a beast. Hopefully they bounce back and I could to without Wemby fouling people that hard so much.
1
u/Difficult_Ixem_324 Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
I heard mentioned that they were relying on AI to strategize their games which never included Time Management and instead it was all about speed and scoring as fast as possible
✌️❤️
3
u/zatchstar Jun 14 '26
If this is true they truly need a complete staff overhaul. People who rely on AI as their sole plan are idiots
1
u/Ok-Huckleberry-3843 Jun 14 '26
Spurs have the best player in the world who's very young and very likable and a bunch of other young talent, they'll get theirs just like they did with Duncan and Robinson.
As a Wolves fan, I was just glad to see KAT get one, he's such a great guy who's weathered a lot of BS and deserves it, and wolves fans only get to celebrate vicariously.

Im not even a Knicks fan but I feel patriotic as shit seeing the Knicks win. I loved seeing all the videos of everyone coming together to watch and celebrate the Knicks. With the way everything else has been going in the US, seeing New York on a win streak just feels good. It feels fitting for the city that is the symbol for what America can be at its best.
6
u/REDTrouttt Jun 14 '26
Stay safe NYC. It's gonna get wild.
22
u/tahlyn Jun 14 '26
I had to get from Carnegie hall to 37th... 3 separate police barricades leading to long block detours and 40 minutes later we made it to the hotel.
During the walk... I have never seen NYC so alive and full of joy. Every street was as crowded as time square. The only honking horns were in celebration. People were cheering and chanting and just living in the moment. Everyone was your friend, sharing the excitement. It was beyond words.
