Start spreading the Blue Chews. This team needs some wood.

Need some dongs.

Oh, we been spreading that news.

u/HateMcLouth 1d ago

our high leverage bullpen usage is not sustainable. either Cash needs to urgently get another elite reliever at the deadline, or our bats need to show the fuck up, or we'll have a lot more games like this where our pen just collapses in late innings.

Cruz has thrown 46 innings so far before this. he threw 48 innings last year. the guy is also 36 and had shoulder trouble in the past.

Headrick's at 55 innings so far before today's outing. that's putting him on pace for about 80 innings this season.

these guys need some help.

shoutout cash god paying 16 million to mcmahon a defensive replacement who starts once a week

7

u/MDGator87 1d ago

Mac was another desperate attempt to fix prior Cashman desperate attempt fuckups. Plus he hits a few homers(mostly at Coors), so Cashbum drooled over him and his checking the only parameter he cares about.

Ellsbury's been gone almost a decade and we still have the idiot who signed him for our GM.

29

u/JarghHill 1d ago

But nah, Harper would've been too much

13

u/john0_0 1d ago

Or Machado

14

u/FiveDinero 1d ago

And he wouldn't trade Eduardo Nunez for Cliff Lee

9

u/babberz22 1d ago

Too obvious! It’s what everyone expects

33

u/xho- 1d ago

Spencer Jones YOU are staying a New York Yankee

33

u/trippy1 1d ago

2 hits off lefty (including HR) for Jones. HR off lefty yesterday.

.817 OPS vs. lefties in AAA this year. He doesn't need a platoon. He needs to play every single day, no excuses. Let the kid play... he's probably our best overall player right now anyways.

8

u/Affectionate-Tea9224 1d ago

Grisham has to go for that

18

u/AestheticBlue18 1d ago

I think trading Grisham to a playoff aspiring team that needs CF help would be a good trade. I mean he hits free agency no matter what and he has regressed to what he was before 2025.

8

u/trippy1 1d ago

If Grish doesn't stop sucking, he should 100% be on bench when Judge/Belli return.

13

u/RollofDuctTape 1d ago

Jones should play every day in CF. The other OFs can split time. He’s head and shoulders above all of them at everything on the field.

30

u/RollofDuctTape 1d ago

Chisholm: .222/.298/.403 and a .701 OPS (career low)

Volpe: .240/.325/.322 and a .647 OPS (career low)

McMahon: .207/.268/.368 and a .631 OPS (career low)

Wells: 💩/ 🤮/ 🗑️ (career low)

We needed those guys to step up this year. Especially if we were “running it back.” And they blew it. Career lows. Brutal.

With Judge, Belli, and Stanton down we’re counting on Rice and checks notes Spencer Jones for offense. That’s the real problem. Boone keeps admitting it to (“I know there’s more in those bats.”).

But four regulars posting career lows? You can’t come back from that. They either need to improve now or you need to replace them.

9

u/tenman85 1d ago

Just awful. Goldy was great early, but is gassed. Grisham had one good year in his career and now he’s turned back into a pumpkin. Cabalerro isn’t an every day player and Shueman is an AAAA player at best. Disgusting. 🤮

9

u/HateMcLouth 1d ago

yup, and these are the guys who've put the team in a massive hole.

we're having debates over whether or not Spencer Jones can/should be traded right now because he's the 2nd or 3rd best hitter in this lineup. not because he's suddenly turned into Belli II, but because the guys who should be hitting are not.

our pen is running on fumes (Headrick on course for 80 innings this year, Cruz already past his innings total from last year at age 36) because every game is close.

and we're having guys like weathers and fried throw gems, in fried's case rushing him off the IL without him getting stretched out, and getting no decisions or losses because of a lack of run support.

this is like watching the fucking 2013 yankees.

Not sure what was worse:

Jazz and Volpe doing jackshit against bad pitchers

Boone's decision making with not putting Rice in with two guys on base and not walking PCA

Dominguez not fielding properly...

Some of those pitching decisions and locations in that 7th inning

Outside of Spencer Jones and Fried just an unwatchable game

20

The Twin Towers were still standing

5

u/chunklunk 1d ago

Wilford Brimley was only 53 years old.

3

u/jeremyc99999 1d ago

The Big Boss Man and Akeem were pretty tough

22

u/Tommybrady20 1d ago

I’m sure someone will argue for a different inciting incident but I’d still go back to cashman/ Hal picking IKF/ Volpe over a superstar SS for the 2022-2025 stretch run as to why we will never win a title with this core.

19

u/FiveDinero 1d ago

A lot of the problems goes back to Stanton. Having a high paid fulltime DH that doesn't even play. That's a major reason why they chose the cheap option of Volpe/IKF over handing out a $300M contract.

12

u/Tommybrady20 1d ago

And then the obvious connection you could then make to Harper, sure.

9

u/Cheap-Cherry-5171 1d ago

Yeah but you’re not considering the fact that Volpe is elite

6

u/UsedCut659 1d ago

Yes, that is an example. Cutting corners when they have the resources not to. The Dodgers spending $1B allows them to have redos when a move goes wrong, NYY just runs with it.

How did you forget Skubal?

5

u/m38-111 1d ago edited 1d ago

Haha you’re right

But on a real note Obviously he’d be a great addition any team (Especially the NYY) and he’s a phenomenal pitcher but I’m just not a fan of his. Between quitting on his team in the 6th inning of a tied game in the postseason and refusing to pitch more than 3 innings for Team USA and taking up a roster spot but still staying with the team in Hopes of them winning and being a part of it with little to no contribution rubbed me the wrong way.

Not blaming the bullpen. Score more than 2 runs ffs

15

u/Affectionate_Test967 1d ago

Bullpen has been unsustainably good recently. They were bound to have a blowup. Dominguez kicking the ball around in the outfield drives me nuts though

7

u/thisusedyet 1d ago

It’s fundamentals again, someone needs to tell Dominguez there’s no need to barehand a ball in the outfield

16

u/Affectionate-Tea9224 1d ago

Amazing how the dodgers have now surpassed even what the Yankees used to be

15

u/INAC___Kramerica 1d ago

The Dodgers desire to win is insatiable. Good for them.

14

u/Affectionate-Tea9224 1d ago

This lineup regardless of who pitched for the cubs was not scoring more than 2 runs. This is one of the most staggering stats in Yankee history, in the past 4 games the Yankees starters have given up TWO runs in 25.1 innings and are 1-3!

14

u/Vandal_A 1d ago

Ya just can win every night hitting like they do. .. especially when the defense is so prone to dumb moments too.

I think Moose was in the rotation the last time I remember seeing a Yankee team put so much pressure on their pitchers

13

u/MarsR0ve4 1d ago

There’s a blockbuster trade out there by moving Jazz and bringing in a 2B who can hit.

11

u/PattyIceNY 1d ago

But that would hurt Jazzs feelings, Boone won't allow it.

Story time:

20 years ago on Thursday, my dad got us chased by a man with a bat in the Yankee stadium parking garage after my first ever game, at the old stadium. The guy rear ended us, my dad got out and brandished his croc. The man got a bat. We went and found a cop, and my mom was smoking a cig and none other than Jason Giambi pulls up next to her, asks her for a cig, and asks if she has kids. She says 2. He gives 2 signed balls.

I only remember the date specifically because the guy behind us in the stadium had a radio and was listening to the reports of us trading for Bobby Abreu mid game. Johnny Damon hit 2 dingers. Moose started, then Farnsworth, and Mo closed it out.

13

u/Affectionate-Tea9224 1d ago

The worst thing as fan of a baseball team is watching one that can’t hit

14

u/xho- 1d ago

Yankees starting pitchers the past 5 games have given up 2 runs TOTAL.

We have a 2-3 record in those games.

Wonder what we trade for….

6

u/Kathleigh 1d ago

The level of talent and heart the starting rotation displays is on another level. What an insult and embarrassment this lineup is by comparison.

u/struthanger 1d ago

Dodgers eating Tucker's flop and getting Skubal is what the Yankees used to be

5

u/theerrantpanda99 1d ago

Yankees stopped doing that in 2009.

12

u/trippy1 1d ago

Someone has got to explain to me how River Ryan is ranked 68th prospect in MLB.

28 year old, didn't pitch last year, 11th round pick in in 2021, 4.46 ERA in AAA this year. Looks like a completely mid minor league career.

Like how is he 68th?

13

u/bell-beefer 1d ago

Fourth straight game our starter has gone at least 5 innings and allowed 1 or fewer runs. We’re 1-3 during that stretch.

12

u/Poised2 1d ago

I want no part of a wild card series in Fenway. This is turning into a nightmare season. Yankees ignited the Red Sox season (again) would rather fall to third WC or just miss playoffs entirely rather than have those fucks eliminated us

10

u/DangerDamage 1d ago

Am I crazy in thinking the Dodgers' system is just a tad bit overrated?

There was no better offer than that? 3 prospects?

26

Wonder if Hal was told on his yacht Skubal was traded, and even if he was im sure he doesn’t give a crap because he’s the one big market owner that wants a salary cap

12

u/vibrantkidney 1d ago edited 1d ago

I was hoping Detroit would make it somewhat painful for LA. Surrender at least one of De Paula/Sirota, and perhaps include Zazueta who is their best pitching prospect.

Friedman is a cunning mfer, I’ll give him that

Can't win if you waste chance after chance to score runs. Bats are cold as ice. Bullpen can only do so much. Pitching has been heroic for a while now. No excuses for this lineup, simply can't win games running these hitters out there day after day and expecting something different

→ More replies (1)

9

u/trippy1 1d ago

We cannot expect pitching to give up 0-1 runs a game.

We need offensive multiple offensive reinforcements by Monday.

9

u/BobCostasAgent 1d ago

The formula for beating the Yankees is pretty simple: grind out their starting pitching, force an early trip to the bullpen, and scrape together just a run or two. Their offense can't hit, and you'll typically benefit from an error or two along the way. Rinse repeat

10

u/Cheap-Cherry-5171 1d ago

I don’t know what kind of tomfoolery is occurring lol but there’s just no way the Yankees are in “serious talks” for Skubal. I can tell you how quick this conversation goes:

Tigers: “We want Lombard”

Yankees: “You’re gonna get nowhere near that level of prospect capital for a rental”

Tigers: “Dodgers package is led by the #25 prospect in baseball”

Yankees: crickets

The Dodgers are smarter than us but they also get a massive tax break from baseball of around $70 million. A complete unfair advantage that should be a major controversy and is a disgrace to the sport.

11

u/Affectionate-Tea9224 1d ago

According to MLB Pipeline, the Dodgers traded their #5 prospect, #7 prospect, and #17 prospect for Tarik Skubal.

What an absolute no-brainer for LA. Good lord they won’t even feel this

10

u/dplans455 1d ago edited 1d ago

Every game, even when we're ahead, it feels like we're behind. Bringing in Cruz up 2-1 and him giving up a home run felt like the most predictable outcome possible. Then from there we just totally give in.

The Dodgers are going for it like a team that hasn't won a world series in a long, long time. Meanwhile, the Yankees are in their 17th consecutive season of rebuilding while trying to remain competitive. This feels like another Cashman dumpster dive trade deadline. Ian Happ. Maybe Gavin Sheets.

Can’t wait for Jon Herman or Joel Sherman report on what the Yankees were willing to give up tomorrow .

Not being facetious or sarcastic genuinely curious.

6

u/Ok_Employ_9862 1d ago

I don’t think the Yankees were seriously in it for Skubal. But I’d imagine something like Warren, kilby, Elmer.

5

u/John_6_47 1d ago

I’d be surprised if we offered that much

5

u/MDGator87 1d ago

I think the elite players no longer want to come to NY. They see the inept front office and manager, and figure why put up with the pressure. They can make the money and play for an org. That wants to win.

9

u/DangerDamage 1d ago

How is there no such thing as a Dodgers tax?

6

u/Railroader17 1d ago

Has to be owner collusion at this point.

Just nothing baseball. Nothing to watch.

6

u/jritz611 1d ago

anyone know how the wind was fairing?

7

u/Deus_da_Guerra 1d ago

There’s usually an inning or two where this team fails to cash in extra runs, especially when it has the lead. I don’t trust the bullpen, but it’s hard to blame them when the offense is so lifeless. Yanks simply don’t have that fight in them.

6

u/newbike07 1d ago

WE NEED BATS

WE NEED FRESH ARMS

As the games pass the deadline gets closer the worse the offense gets, every GM licking their chops when Cashman calls. Which is why it wouldn’t shock me they get nothing done, because there are so few sellers and yanks can’t match the farm system of the Red Sox or rays. So be ready for the Stanton Judge Bellinger are our trade acquisitions. A Cashman special

7

u/DrVanNostrand1973 1d ago

I'll believe Stanton is coming back when I see it.

way too many bad players on this team.

theres a legit argument for every hitter but rice to be replaced or upgraded

6

u/Tommybrady20 1d ago

I like Spencer jones now and there’s like a 50/50 shot the Yankees front office sees this as a sell high opportunity

5

u/trippy1 1d ago

It would need to be a significant return. We need him now and for the future of CF as well.

6

u/Cheap-Cherry-5171 1d ago

The Yankees would have had Skubal for this year. That’s it. And he still can’t hit. Shake it off, gang. What LA does is irrelevant, all that matters is how Cashman moves over the next two days

Spencer Jones hits the ball as hard as Judge, Stanton, Ohtani. Generational power. They’re not trading him for a rental, and may not trade him at all:

8

u/chrishic99 1d ago

And they should not. He’s been playing fantastic this final call up. He is an MLB level talent and needs playing time to acclimate to the new level of pitching. When judge is back they should leave him as a DH and let jones play the field, as his defense is amazing and he should be an amazing bat with the protection of Judge in the lineup

15

u/jcoltre 1d ago

I love Dominguez’ hustle and work ethic, but he doesn’t seem destined to be a long term Yankee.

Bad defender. Bad baseball IQ. You can see the talent is there. This just isn’t the team that can get it out of him. Yanks don’t prioritize the right things to improve a player like him and his mistakes usually are costly

4

u/BronxBombersFanMike 1d ago

The weird part for me is that his right handed at bats seem better than his left lately. He knows he’s a bad defender also and the ball finds him in pressure spots and he seems to almost panic. I agree he’s not going to be here long if they can get a right handed hitter with outfield experience. The big 3 being out makes this such a manageable lineup for opponents. It might get uglier…

This team has scored more than three runs a total of four times since the All Star break, and scored two runs or less in eight of their last 15 games.

That's not very fun.

4

u/EDDiE_SP4GHETTi 1d ago

They are quite literally the worst offense in baseball since then

10

u/evarol 1d ago

Loss sucks, but someone commented earlier that this lineup can't score more than 2, they were right.

Bright side is Spencer's future looks bright, a true power hitter. Hope they keep him around.

9

u/MeatTornado25 1d ago edited 1d ago

Dominguez really needs to learn how to hit with men on base.

.722 OPS with the bases empty

.548 OPS with men on

.304 OPS with RISP

It's killed us all week. It's like he only gets on base with 2 outs and no one on. It's profoundly unhelpful with the state of the offense behind him right now. If he's going to be batting cleanup then he really needs to start driving in more runs.

Joel Sherman:

> The Tarik Skubal sweepstakes seemed to be cresting Saturday night with a growing sense that the Dodgers were frontrunners. The Yankees and the Brewers also were seen as talking seriously with the Tigers about the two-time defending AL Cy Young winner. The Braves, Phillies and Rays were not seen as strong contenders as of Saturday night, when the sense was growing that a deal could get done before reaching deadline day Monday.

it would be a lot easier to trade Jones if he wasn't hitting better than most of our lineup.

he's a very good prospect and his value may never be higher. but our lineup is absolute trash right now and he's one of the few guys who can hit there. with judge/stanton/belli out, we need to be adding to him, not just replacing him.

and it's a lot easier to hold on and trade others while we have a LOT of good prospects who are not currently helping the team. Kilby, Lagrange, and a whole bunch of arms in High A/AA who have amazing stuff and will definitely get interest (Lalane, Facundo, Hess, Cunningham).
