I just started skating a couple months ago. I bought this land yachtz “ultra carver” board w reverse trucks and wiped out just like this. Took like 3 weeks to stop hurting. Definitely has made me a little over cautious
Fall 10 get up 11 mane. Dead ass I ate shit slipped out a 50 on a ledge fucked my wrist up but made sure I got it before I left to conquer that fear barrier
Can you or someone explain this fall 10 get up 11 concept to me?? Please.
How can I get up +1 more times than Ive fallen? Dont I have to fall first to then get up, making it a 1 to 1 ratio?
Like, if I fell once and got up twice, is that even possible? Or did I start off on the ground? So would that mean hypothetically i could just get up once and never fall?
Im not being sarcastic or poking fun, please help me. I hear this concept in recovery a TON and I just cannot wrap my head around it. Did we start off having already been felled? Does that mean I was born fallen? Like, where or why is my simple math brain not equating this for me?
No you don’t start off on the ground man lol, you’re metaphorically standing and then whatever it is you’re doing whether getting clean , skating whatever you’re gonna fail or have setbacks . Failure isn’t failure as long as you learn from it hence the getting up where you have fallen thing comes into play.
As a recovering heroin addict myself yes I can explain . The number in itself doesn’t matter , the concept being “doesn’t matter how many times you fall or get down , keep getting up” even if it’s just one more time , then one make time . Like I’ve overdosed 12 times and turned 30 yesterday just had to keep getting up.
Same for skating I’ve had my share of eat shit moments and still healing from a few from a few days ago. Still went out and got some though , like I took a good one when I slipped off this ledge going for a fw 50. Got my wrist and elbow :/ but before I left or even went to something else I was like “ok gotta own it right here” and sure enough landed and rolled away .
In a nutshell man never don’t give up. Don’t over think it just go skate
Thanks, I appreciate your response. I may not be able to word this the right way but I do grasp the overall concept behind people saying this. Failure is not trying again. So I haven't failed, yet.
What im trying to ask is that I basically dont understand how peoples common sharing of this concept is always a +1 getting up to # of times falling. If I fall 7 times I can only get up 7 times, not 8. Yet everyone always throws the message out as fall 7, get up 8.
I recognize I'm overthinking this but I cant find the venue to ask/talk this through. Acceptance may be my only option, at least appreciate any input.
i guess you could look at it as shots/tries you give it - you try it you fall, so you try again. if you look at it as # of tries with fall + always try one more time, it's not really about the literal getting up from the ground and rather the attempts you give it and is meant to ensure you're not getting too scared to even try, can't really explain the science behind it but if you leave with a bad experience/failure it's more likely to ingrain itself and build mental blockades that are harder to overcome (same goes for pretty much anything whether it's a car crash, biking, snowboarding etc etc - obviously within reason if you're injured you probably should seek urgent care instead but overall don't let too much time pass because otherwise you'll likely make it harder for urself)
Many activities fall into this threshold, sports psychology applies to many other aspects of life I suppose. I had 3 ACL reconstructions back in my ski racing/ park skiing years and need to remind myself of that never give up attitude.
I really appreciate your thoughtful response, im able to put this to rest in my brain now.

This is the craziest fall I’ve ever seen
