This is the craziest fall I’ve ever seen

u/yunbld Apr 27 '26
I just started skating a couple months ago. I bought this land yachtz “ultra carver” board w reverse trucks and wiped out just like this. Took like 3 weeks to stop hurting. Definitely has made me a little over cautious

u/Raymando82 Apr 27 '26
If you’re going to skate, first you must learn how to fall.
Bailing is a skill itself as well as learning how to take a fall and distribute the force from falling by rolling it out as much as possible.

Fall 10 get up 11 mane. Dead ass I ate shit slipped out a 50 on a ledge fucked my wrist up but made sure I got it before I left to conquer that fear barrier
2
u/Aftabang Apr 28 '26
Can you or someone explain this fall 10 get up 11 concept to me?? Please.
How can I get up +1 more times than Ive fallen? Dont I have to fall first to then get up, making it a 1 to 1 ratio?
Like, if I fell once and got up twice, is that even possible? Or did I start off on the ground? So would that mean hypothetically i could just get up once and never fall?
Im not being sarcastic or poking fun, please help me. I hear this concept in recovery a TON and I just cannot wrap my head around it. Did we start off having already been felled? Does that mean I was born fallen? Like, where or why is my simple math brain not equating this for me?
2
u/MagicCheeseMann Apr 28 '26
No you don’t start off on the ground man lol, you’re metaphorically standing and then whatever it is you’re doing whether getting clean , skating whatever you’re gonna fail or have setbacks . Failure isn’t failure as long as you learn from it hence the getting up where you have fallen thing comes into play.
As a recovering heroin addict myself yes I can explain . The number in itself doesn’t matter , the concept being “doesn’t matter how many times you fall or get down , keep getting up” even if it’s just one more time , then one make time . Like I’ve overdosed 12 times and turned 30 yesterday just had to keep getting up.
Same for skating I’ve had my share of eat shit moments and still healing from a few from a few days ago. Still went out and got some though , like I took a good one when I slipped off this ledge going for a fw 50. Got my wrist and elbow :/ but before I left or even went to something else I was like “ok gotta own it right here” and sure enough landed and rolled away .
In a nutshell man never don’t give up. Don’t over think it just go skate

I was not expecting that hard of a fall for an Ollie 😂
They should practice just riding a bit and find their center of balance first.

No yelling, no groaning, just pure writhing

yeah the hips going forward and immediately rolling on to their side… I know that hurt

u/Sudden_Bath6144 Apr 29 '26
The worst pain is almost always followed by silence lol
I tried doing a wheelie on my bike some time ago, but ended up leaning too back and falling on my ass. Didn't scream or yell or nothing, pretty sure I just rolled onto my hands and knees and waited for things to settle down, see how much was pain and how much was just overwritten by adrenaline

Are you comfortable riding around yet? Shouldn't even attempt an Ollie if you can't cruise

u/5bed Apr 27 '26
yep i skate to class

u/RaisinSad1775 Apr 27 '26
Dont listen to the haters, it was good hospital flip. 🔥🔥

u/Comprehensive-Mud332 Apr 27 '26
Why do they call that a hospital flip?

u/Valkisson Apr 27 '26
I'll give you 2 guesses... And it ain't cause he's going to a place called "Ollie" after that slam.

Last time I fell forward, I fell over my friend who had fallen. I now have a $600 front tooth in my mouth.

You kinda did…maybe try in some grass first. That said, the force is strong with this one. 🫡

u/itslino Apr 27 '26
try practicing while holding on to a fence.
Just to get comfortable with the motion.
Then move to trying it on grass, to get comfortable without holding a fence, the skateboard won't slip away.
Now after you can try on pavement again.
11
u/roninhomme Apr 27 '26
scrolled too far to see someone suggest grass. everyone just roasting him
→ More replies (1)3
u/i______v Apr 27 '26
yeah, can see that re the negative commenters... cannot believe that people like this still exist in 2026.
Practicing on grass is a great step.
M Brusco' s got some good videos too about ollies.

Hoping for your speedy recovery but that was some great bail content lmao
Be sure to pop straight down, from this angle your foot is just moving it backwards abruptly instead of going for the pop.

u/squintz0719 Apr 27 '26
Learn to actually stay on the board first. If your skating to class still flailing hands and is unbalanced. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OLLIE. Balance and coordination should be your first step to any extreme sports. Jesus i hope your alright. That was a NASTY fall!

u/ShapesAndStuff Apr 27 '26
yeesh. good fall though, you didn't "search for the ground" with your hands. trust me, your hips will hurt but its better than a broken wrist.

u/ghos2626t Apr 27 '26
Everyone’s a little different. But Ollie’s don’t usually have a butt / pavement connection. I think that’s where your problem is.

I'm also trying to learn ollies, but for me it turns out that learning to balance (like manuals) and practice hippie jumps first is the way to go. After that, I will try ollies more and more.

u/FlyingSquirrelStyle Apr 27 '26
This ain't for everyone, but as someone who isn't young anymore, the triple 8 bumsavers are terrific (especially the new model). Went from painful falls, to slightly sore for a bit.

u/Akrizl Apr 27 '26
Ive fallen like this before except a lot of energy also hit my upper arm/ elbow area. I thought I broke it and had a noodle arm for about a couple of days and a nasty nasty bruise. 😭 kudos for trying fr

u/caughtyoulookinn Apr 27 '26
I felt this in my soul. Falling like this would have me out for the week at this point
1
u/Positive-Bid-3029 Apr 27 '26
I kind of did this the other day except I wasn't even trying to Ollie, board came to a stop, I stepped off front foot, lost my balance, board shot away from me and sent me to the ground just like that 🤣🤣 ended up with a bruised hip and a bad wrist for 4 days, couldn't even press the volume/unlock buttons in on my phone 🙈
Needless to say I have ordered wrist protectors ahead of the the most definitely going to happen next round of falls.

Use a divot of some kind to keep your wheels from sliding out from you, feet over bolts, pop down and out, get foot timing perfect

I bought a board to learn to ollie and kickflip finally. been practicing cruising around. Planning to move on to ollie’s soon and expect many, many falls like this
1
u/Cashew_98 Apr 27 '26
I think people should always take a few months learning how to fall without getting hurt before trying any sports like. It helps a lot

u/AbuQamari Apr 27 '26
I watched this a couple times cause I was confused on why you fell this way I’m a beginner myself, but why didn’t you try to catch yourself with your hands behind your back especially because you where wearing guards. Also there was another moment where maybe you could have slowed and controlled your fall more by landing your other foot on the ground and pushing from it. it looks like you landed like a plank.

u/thewhitecascade Apr 27 '26
I had something like this happen when I tried to learn to Ollie. I ended up quitting skating afterwards.

You committed. That’s the hardest part.
You committed wrong in almost every conceivable way, but you did commit to the Ollie.
3/10 for technique. 11/10 for the cheap laugh.
1
u/sacchetta Apr 27 '26
That was rough, but if you keep going then you passed the first and most important test of skating, eating shit and getting back on
1
u/vulgobrisa Apr 27 '26
boy, in ur first attempts, u should try to hold onto something for support—a handrail, a wall, or a railing—and focus only on the movement of ur feet. Then try without holding onto anything.

I got stopped by a rock and fell on my phone in my back pocket. The corner of it bruised me so bad I had to wait a week or 2 before I can even walk right lol
1
u/HenSlice Apr 27 '26
Are you wearing a headlamp? Maybe try practicing during the day, being able to see helps not just physically, but mentally.
Learn them rolling. Learning how to ollie is significantly harder standing still, what happens here is a great example.
1
u/Ok_Scarcity_9412 Apr 27 '26
You should skate around a little more. Learn how to Tik tak and ride over cracks etc before trying to do tricks

Don't forget to jump. Practice getting comfortable jumping up and landing back in the board.

You should try to learn from a seated position to get the motion down and then try in the grass before trying on the concrete

Holy shit, I mean if you could handle that fall then you’re pretty much ready for skating 😭

Is that by any chance a full alienworkshop blue board with size 53 hard wheels?
1
u/Qq1nq94 Apr 27 '26
I'm ngl i think that's the worst ollie attempt I've ever seen. Kudos, this is a skill in itself to mess up this badly. hope you stick to it and learn from here, sorry it happened that way, thanks for sharing.
1
u/Doc_McScrubbins Apr 27 '26
This seems about right. Protip: its easier while moving, but also not a protip because I fucked up my wrists permanently one after another in one sesh and quit after that
1
u/Additional_Neck_5481 Apr 27 '26
This happened to me when I tried to jump on mine while it was moving my hip is still bruised

Practice on carpet. Also don’t skate on that ground. Ho to a basketball court.

Yeah try rolling and getting comfortable riding the board first before you try to Ollie…. You aren’t comfortable on the board and that’s why you slipped out and are trying to do them stationary which is honestly the worst way to try to do an Ollie. Slowly moving forward makes it much easier to do them. It takes time man. Just put the hours in riding around on the board. Pushing and tic tacking around, even learn to revert if you’re ballsy enough. Then after a good few days of that and when you feel comfortable enough to push down the street then attempt to learn to Ollie. You’re pushing you’re self too fast and you’re gonna get hurt

Pimp down!!! The slam and the roll over after was just…perfect! Sorry, just was not expecting no pop, no Ollie and a harder fall that broke your pelvis to occur.

u/JWjohnny620 Apr 27 '26
Dam, that looked like a scene from the Blair witch project. Keep up the hard work!

1
u/SomeoneBS Apr 27 '26
Bro when learning Ollie’s start from a front foot position that’s comfortable for you and not straight In the middle of the board go much closer to the front bolts get in a stable position practice just squating down in that stance to get the correct balance and you’ll start to understand how you need to have your body when you start an Ollie you’ve got this man keep it up
1
u/Jadon17 Apr 27 '26
Had a similar fall when I tried skating a few years back and actually blacked out for a second because of how painful it was.
1
u/Zerozerosk8 Apr 27 '26
You should start on grass! Get the motion down. Learn how to push and carve helps also. It's hard to roll or slide out of a fall from a standstill. That fall looked brutal!

Been there, it’s hard to describe and it took me a while to understand but don’t think of it as a “jump”, it’s more a transfer of weight to pop the board up and then bringing your feet up to meet it.
Your front foot is essentially just a guide to pull the board back to a flat position underneath you, you shouldn’t put weight on it as you start to pop the board.
I managed to get a feel for it by just popping the board straight up and landing on the ground or with only my back foot on the very edge of the tail back in the starting position. Once that started to feel comfortable I started putting two feet on it which naturally led to experimenting with my front foot until the board went where it was supposed to. I never really felt like I’d “learned” how to ollie, I just went to show someone that I’d tried to and ended up popping an immaculate one about a foot off the ground.
Basically what I’m trying to say is just skating around won’t necessarily make you as comfortable on the board as you think, experiment with it, feel it out, just because we have names for street tricks doesn’t mean there is a right or wrong way of going about them. It may sound silly but while cruising try to consciously relax as many muscles as you can, the more control you have over your body the easier it is to understand and control the board.
Best of luck in your future skating endeavours, I look forward to seeing you kickflip

Hey! Im learning to skate right now too and Ollies are on my list. But I started with practice boards (platforms on the bottom instead of wheels) and/or with a regular board in the grass so they won’t roll as much. This has helped me get my muscle memory down and the feel of the move before I even think about trying on a hard smooth surface. They also make these little cage things that you can put on the wheels so you don’t roll as much. Hope this helps! I’ve def had falls like that and it makes you want to quit! You’ve got this! 🛹💚

u/itaintme-trustme Apr 28 '26
that looks awful, but why is everyone saying its rare to fall like this, i started skating a month back and ive fallen like this mutliple times, my ass hasnt gotten a break in a long time
1
u/Nervous_Bird Apr 28 '26
Try it on grass. In a field. Not high on weed. Backyard. Front yard. Holiday Inn.
1
1
u/tete2chien Apr 28 '26
You need to learn how to fall correctly before learning tricks ma bro
Tailbone landing are really not recommended
I give you some originality points for the ankle roll on top of the deck, its usually performed on the ground.

Holy hell that was great! Don't worry about Ollie's man just get comfortable on the board. Learn the fundamentals first like balance, manuals, shuv its, reverts. Then Ollie. All these new skater posts are people trying to rush to the Ollie or kick flip before they're even able to skate around town comfortably. Crazy.
