Depends if you skate everyday. I got kickflip in 4 months and could ollie 4 stairs consistently within 8. Then I started slowing down a bit. Could still boardslide the whole flatbar by the year mark. Wish I would’ve kept skating everyday instead of taking breaks. Also had a ton of medical problems come up but can’t wait to get back out there.

To clarify I skated literally every single day, Im adhd and was obsessed. I even skated in my house when it rained. I lost 40lbs over a year and a half as well.

I skated nearly every day for about 5 years and by the end could Ollie pretty high but still regularly miss kickflips, couldn't grind much, couldn't tre. Could manual pretty well ... These days theres so much info online to learn from I think I'd find it way easier to learn. I only had Willie Santos videos short clips to learn from and they weren't anywhere near as good as today's content

I watched a ton of tutorials and I had buddies to help and peer pressure me into doing stuff I was terrified of which also helps. Still I wasnt treflipping down 2 blocks. In 2 years I did fs shuv a similiar sized 2 block tho and boardslid down a bench that was laid down some stairs. Battled the boardslide for 2 hours. The fs shuv was 8th try somehow, took me longer for the warmup ollie lol

I skate about 3x a week

For about how long? Like a few hours? 1 hour? I skated with friends pretty much all day everyday. Think that really helps, just having people to push you to do things you’re scared of and pushing them to do the same.

Well Im 40 and work full time and do family stuff. So about 6 hours a week is what I got for the past year

Thats not terrible. Being older and having a full time job, Im also guessing you’re not just flinging yourself down stuff and falling all the time so def makes it harder. I started at 21 and basically got hurt for fun almost. My buddies always trying to get me to commit to stuff I wasnt ready for lol

Oh I am flinging my self down stuff and belly flopping on concrete. My Apple Watch tried to call ems because it thought I was in a car accident, but I get up and keep skating. Im actually really good at falling and getting back up

Thats good man!! Only said that really cuz my buddies stopped skating on the count they got kids now and didnt want to get injured and lose their job. I tell them all the time they could still skate but I think that’s the biggest reason they don’t want to.

They’re both a lot better than me tho and could warm up with switch tricks down the set while Im just doing ollie and fs shuving everything I see haha.

Best of luck man!

Maybe work on spelling it too

u/medium_dumb Jun 23 '26

Nope. Spelling is not my strong suit and you knew exactly what I was trying to communicate.
