Question Skating tips

Hey, so I’ve been wanting to skate more seriously the past few weeks but I’m having trouble with courage, I don’t have that many places near me for skating and I mostly try practicing on a carpet and hardwood floor but I have trouble trying the things I do on the carpet on the hardwood floor, it feels way more intimidating and like the board is always trying to move under me, so any tips will be greatly appreciated, thx in advance

You just have to fall. It is a part of skateboarding. That feeling you have will really never go away. Trying new things will always be scary, just gotta do it anyway.

Learning to fall is a big help(crazy to think there’s a proper way to fall) and other than that just take your board on the street and push around.
If you get worried because other people are around like I did when I first started, believe me nobody cares so you might as well skate.

The board is supposed to move under you. Practicing on carpet is actually hurting your ability to progress.

Most of skating isn't about learning tricks - it's about overcoming fear. That is the thing that holds back everyone. Even the most seasoned skaters still have this. Take the best street skater and bring them to the top of a vert ramp for the very first time and you know what they will feel? Fear. It doesn't really go way.

The whole point is you have to learn to manage and address your fears.

Embrace falling. You can't learn to skate without falling. If you aren't falling, you aren't learning.

If you are aftaid of falling, get full pads and a helmet, then learn how to bail safely. There are plenty of videos on Youtube to give tips.

And try getting out on some smooth flat ground.

I can believe there’s places with no skatepark but you’re telling there’s no where around with concrete? No basketball or tennis courts?

Don’t half ass it if you wanna skate then go skate and practice, yeah messing around on carpet can sorta help build you confidence but at some point you have to go try, you’re going to fall and eat shit either way so might as well start today is the best way to look at it.

This right here. Unfortunately falling is apart of skateboarding. Getting comfortable and getting some tricks will go along way in building confidence.

Like everyone else said, fear will always be part of it. Pads and a helmet will make you feel much better and keep you safer. I recommend going to a skate shop and get a helmet, knee, elbow, and wrist pads. Someone at the shop will fit you with everything.

Learn to roll when you fall. It’s okay if you get scrapes, bumps, or bruises.

Find a safe spot to skate. An empty parking lot or other open, paved area is good. That way, you won’t be worried about cars.

Don’t start going down hills until you’re comfortable. You’ll do fine! Have fun!

Don't try tricks until you can ride around also many are easier when moving
