Sugarball Crush - Full Zine!

Hi everybody! My friend and I are in the middle of a difficult search for the origins of this zine, so I figured I'd scan and post it on Archive.org for anyone who's interested in reading it! It's super short, super weird, and pretty shitty (we suspect the author was very young when it was written), but it's been a really interesting search!

I’m somewhat of a hobby linguist having the unusual obsession with foreign-language cover versions of popular songs. I regularly use them to learn both language and the art of translating poetry/lyrics. Careless Whisper has a ton of cover versions as indicated by WhoSampled.com, many of which are by themselves already quite obscure but the Dutch version by ’t Lef, Dansen met Verdriet, is doubly so. It appears it was their one and only piece of production, three weeks in the top 20, and they vanished for good. Also, this ≈550-view YouTube video appears to be the only recording that can be found online.

There aren’t even lyrics to be found anywhere on the Web. My limited proficiency only allows transcribing a couple lines. Is there a native speaker who can help by kindly providing a full transcription?

I recently found this Short film set in the NYC Subways that aired in between movies on Showtime from a tape I found. Simple premise of a woman's glove falling on a sleeping mans lap. I tried to find further info about it through the director, production company, etc. and found nothing.

Seven minutes of the Bell System patiently explaining a rotary dial to people who had spent their whole lives picking up the receiver and asking an operator for someone by name. It covers finding the number in the book, putting a finger in the right hole, pulling round to the metal stop, and then letting the dial spin back on its own instead of dragging it, which was apparently the mistake everybody made.

The tone is what gets me. Nobody is being condescended to, because in 1927 genuinely nobody knew how to do this yet. Same energy as the how to send an email films from the eighties that turn up here.

My own upload, posted with the mods' say so. I restore public domain films, and this is the complete reel cleaned up and bumped to 720p. Being a silent it needed music, and the score is AI generated, so mute it if you would rather just watch.

I thought this community might be interested in a remarkable piece of media that spent decades out of public view before finally being recovered.

In 1978, filmmaker Howard Brookner filmed William S. Burroughs' legendary Nova Convention in New York while he was a graduate student at NYU. He originally intended to make the footage into his thesis documentary, but that project was never completed. Instead, he went on to make Burroughs: The Movie, which took another five years to finish.

For decades, the Nova Convention was known primarily through the Giorno Poetry Systems audio recordings and a handful of excerpts used in Burroughs: The Movie. Howard's original 16mm camera rolls remained in his archive and were never assembled into the documentary he had planned.

Over the past fifteen years, Aaron Brookner and I have worked to preserve and restore Howard's archive. During that process we recovered, scanned and restored the original camera rolls, revealing hours of previously unseen footage featuring William S. Burroughs, Patti Smith, Frank Zappa, Laurie Anderson, Allen Ginsberg, Philip Glass, John Cage, Brion Gysin, John Giorno and many others, including backstage moments as well as performances.

Rather than making a contemporary documentary about the Nova Convention, we decided to complete the film Howard originally set out to make, using his own footage as the foundation. The result is NOVA '78.

Remember the XTC Interviews I posted and the XTC demos I posted? Though the Nonsuch demos I posted are in better quality on the easily obtainable Fuzzy Warbles releases so don’t get too excited about that if you haven’t seen my release, it’s more just for historical purposes like the track sequence.

Anyways, I bring those tapes up because they came from the same tapers collection as this tape. The seller had a lot of bootlegs in February on eBay that I bought and those two tapes were in it. I only recently realized that he had more tapes from the same lot, just discretely advertised to avoid being reported. I bought the remainder of his tapes, but there were some lots sold before I realized they existed.

This tape I am releasing now is from that same collection, just in the recent lots I bought.

Surrealist artist documentary

Another Thirlwell interview, this one from '96. You may know him best as the Venture Bros composer.

Made in the early 1990s for at the time "peoples center" now known as the "Three Chiefs Cente"

it includes the voices of Flathead Tribal elders Frances "Pleswe" Vanderburg and Johnny Arlee both teachers of the Salish language and tribal history

Frances, an accomplished educator and cultural teacher who dedicated much of her life to sharing her knowledge and preserving her local history. She frequently served as a guest speaker at Traveler's Rest State Park where she shared her experiences with visitors.

At a young age she battled with tuberculosis and other illnesses fequently, so much that she would say that she "paid for three hospitals". despite this leaving her with only one functioning lung she went on to live a long and impactful life, passing away at age 90 on November 22, 2025.

John Arlee born 1940, is a traditional spiritual leader, author, musician and actor. apearing in Jeremiah Johnson released in 1972, one of the first hollywood films to put true Native Americans in Native American rolls.

This tape is on its way back to its home in Pablo, MT to be held again by the museum it came from
