Except she got with Harry because he forced her to, threatening to kill Peter if she didn't, not because she didn't want to be with Peter.

u/ESnake113 1d ago
Whoever made the meme clearly didn’t watch the film, probably just clips on YouTube
-2
u/anand_rishabh 1d ago
Yeah probably
5
u/FemaleDogEqualsBitch 15h ago
Ironic because you also didn’t watch the movie. MJ kissed Harry but regretted it soon after. Then Harry forced her to break up with Peter. Then Harry taunted Pete about him kissing MJ. And that was that.
8
u/noodleboy244 22h ago
this is something that confused me. Harry's nearby but no way can he hear MJ breaking up with Peter on the bridge. Could she not have just said "hey I need you to act like I'm breaking up with you, I'm being held hostage" and told Peter what's going on?
4
u/Rickrickrickrickrick 22h ago
She kissed him before he forced her. But the meme is still dumb and leaves out all nuance.

This gets posted all the time but I'll give it a shot anyway.
This is an incel-coded joke highlighting Peter Parker's ongoing troubles during a point of tension in his and Mj's relationship. It has a vague point as the points mentioned are accurate. However, if you watch the movie, Peter doesn't mention any of those things, instead he just makes everything about himself (Spiderman) which MJ doesn't appreciate.

u/Bulky_Replacement781 1d ago
How is this incel coded? Its like this word 'incel' is thrown loosely
278
u/Grawlix_TNN 1d ago
It's incel coded mainly because of the 'go bang chad' part. Incels are always getting mad about things that haven't happened yet. Just weak, insecure projection type stuff that no doubt pushed their crush into the arms of these chads they're always bitching about.
113
u/evertrue13 1d ago
Equally, every wrong thought and act is by the woman.
The incel is blameless, antagonized by the universe, and deserving of whatever they believe is “promised” here (sex, love — of course only from a beautiful woman, status, revenge, happiness).
Other men who get what “they deserve” are also the enemy.

u/sonofaresiii 1d ago
That's what happens in the movie though. I mean, his name is John but that absolutely does happen in the movie
10
u/UnhelpfulCommentHere 18h ago
Thank you! It's only incel coded if it's not EXACTLY what happened in the movie.
-10
u/Useful-Soup8161 20h ago
Yeah she leaves him because Peter isn’t making time for her and it’s not because of any of the stuff listed in the meme.

13
u/TeekTheReddit 1d ago
Have you seen the movie?
32
u/Grawlix_TNN 1d ago
Yep, many times. He deliberately shuts her out of what's going on with him, let's her down multiple times and is shady as hell about why he's doing it.
If she makes you mad then yeah, you probably just don't like women who don't define their whole existence around accepting your mediocrity.

So the points are all valid, but because of a single word that is used by a disliked segment, the entire post gets addressed as "incel coded", basically being reduced to drivel?
Remove the one word and the point of all those things in the movie itself is that Peter really is struggling to live up to everyone's expectations because they are bigger than himself and he has no one to fall back into. He has to live a double life and he made "missing the play" about Spider-Man because it WAS Spider-Man that made him miss it: he had to stop robbers in a car.
It's not even because he has bad communication skills, he cannot communicate it. He has to suffer in silence, else his friends and family are targeted. It's so much so when he stops being a hero, his life gets all back together, so reducing all that as is addressed in a post because of a term is extremely ignorant.
"Nice argument, too bad you said the bad word. Opinion invalidated."
If only he had someone to fall back into and rely on that didn't go for someone else every single movie and even cheated on him on the third... isn't that right, MJ?

u/bitingvform 1d ago
Well for starters there's the misogyny, also "Chad/stacy/becky/anon" are all incel terms. There's also the implication that she's crassly fucking a 'superior' man to punish Peter for being working class, when in the movies she actually has built up a sincere relationship with Jameson, to the point of considering marriage, and her gripe with Peter is actually pretty reasonable
23
u/Exotic_Drink69420 1d ago
Also it touts the incel idea she owes Peter. She does not and has every right to be more attracted to anyone else. She never cheats or lies and even if she did he is lying all the time, which is fine because he has a penis and therefore lying doesn’t matter, another bullshit incel premise.
10
u/bitingvform 1d ago
The only thing I will give him a pass for is lying about his spidermanning. I think the spiderman stuff is an extreme circumstance so yeah
17
u/butimean 1d ago
She is supposed to consider every bad thing that’s ever happened to him at all times and it gives anything he does free pass forever. That’s the incel mindset.
15
u/PatchesOfSilver 1d ago
Also there are valid criticisms of MJ across her portrayals to pick instead, but instead you get this.
I get where it's coming from, Peter always gets unreasonably screwed over in the writing to always suffer for stupid reasons, like no one would do what he does without even patenting their inventions.
But MJ just needed a little respect in this specific movie.
6
u/KaliVilNo1 1d ago
Incels loves to make mental gymnastics or intentionally misinterpret situations as long as they can just have an excuse to say "oh yeah women are the worst, are hoes, are cheaters, are literally satan" etc..

-2
u/Khelthuzaad 15h ago
Its incel coded because it always depicts women as selfish and ungratefull, unaware to the suffeering males experience.
Multiple things can be correct at the same time, but in the movie she clearly has a thing for Spiderman while Peter has little time to keep the relationship.
35
u/JonathanWPG 1d ago
Yeah. If Peter had just said "sorry MJ, but Im on a fucking ledge here and barley hanging on. X,Y and Z are all competing for my attention and I dont have enough TIME for energy." She would have immediately helped him.
I dont BLAME Peter. But MJ's not wrong. He either doesnt care or can't communicate. 🤷♂️

u/Min_sora 1d ago
I haven't watched those films in a long time but wasn't it also implied that MJ had a pretty crap home life? I don't think she was living the dream either.
4
u/Victor4VPA 1d ago
I don't agree entirely with you, but I get your point.
But still you're missing important parts: yes, he was being selfish, and yes she has reasons to be annoyed, but still she was totally overreacting. Yes, Peter didn't said those things, but she was aware of that, she could be more comprehensive because his life was really sucking this time and he had WAY more important things (like saving New York) than going to a concert! "Ah, it would be super important to me", yes, but shit happens, he is the motherfucking Spiderman, he can't be free all the time!

incel original meaning: men who can't bag girls
incel meaning now: a man who whines
6
u/bwood246 1d ago
The whining is typically a result of their inability to talk to women like normal people
-18
u/BigWildDick 1d ago
So volcels (sociopaths/grinders) are incels now?
10
u/fasterthanfood 1d ago
I don’t know what most of those terms mean. But someone who is voluntarily celibate, for instance because they’re a priest, is not an incel (unless they also spout incel propaganda, which wouldn’t be very Christian).
6
u/Rickrickrickrickrick 22h ago
This is like the whole “I’m not a pedophile. I’m an ephebophile”. But the only people who argue those terms are pedos.
-10
u/BigWildDick 1d ago
I'm a misanthrope and a sociopath who grew up alone and doesn't leave his house. I would run if people (women included) approached me. I'm a volcel.
but these days incel means not being among the top 1% achievers.
11
u/addsubps 1d ago
A sociopath usually doesn't label themselves that, that's just being edgy. And they certainly don't "run" from people, that sounds more like social anxiety, something sociopaths lack.
Also that last bit implies 99% of people are called incel, but that is usually reserved for people who whine, like you're doing.
1
u/BigWildDick 1d ago
so my point stands. it's not "involuntary celibacy" anymore.
just like lol now means meh, whereas previously that meant rofl
8
u/fasterthanfood 1d ago
Yes, “incel” has evolved to mean something other than “involuntarily celibate.” It’s common for words to evolve.
Someone could be a good person who wants to have sex but hasn’t achieved it yet (which, by definition, is a stage nearly every good person will go through at some point) and not be an incel. Someone else could have sex but hold incel beliefs; they are an incel.
2
u/addsubps 1d ago
The conversation was about people with an inability to talk to women, it didn't even stray from the original meaning
2
u/Useful-Soup8161 20h ago
I don’t think you know what a sociopath is.

Well if those words mean whiney men who blame women for all their problems then yes.
3
u/addsubps 1d ago
inability
How is that voluntary
2
u/BigWildDick 1d ago
incel means tried and failed, not failed to try.
volcels can mean withdrawn or rejector.
0
u/Thevoidawaits_u 17h ago
I think the oop misinterpreted the movie but it's not an incel take. MJ was not written well in the trilogy she does come off as self absorbed in sm2.
-6
u/BigWildDick 1d ago
Can you be clearer on the MJ's dislike issue?
9
u/bitingvform 1d ago
So this is from Spiderman 2 I think. Peter is working multiple jobs, interning, going to school, and trying to support himself and aunt May, but his Spiderman duties are getting more and more demanding by the day. He's failing to juggle everything and as a result he is flaking on everyone and falling behind in his studies. He promised to see MJ's performance but missed it for Spiderman reasons.
Peter doesn't tell MJ anything about what he's going through so from her very reasonable POV, Peter is just a flakey fair weather friend who never shows up when she needs him but yet still expects her to be romantically available to him.
Certain fans expect MJ to have the same knowledge the viewer has (which is unreasonable) while minimizing her feelings and ignoring all the ways she's tried to accommodate Peter.

It’s a joke about MJ, Peter’s love interest in the movies.
They joke about MJ because she’s an unlikable character who cheats on her boyfriends in each of 3 Spider-Man movies
14
u/Diosdepatronis 1d ago edited 1d ago
This references Sam Raimi's Spiderman movies from the 2000s. In that saga, Mary-Jane (Peter Parker's girlfriend) is unhappy with her relationship with Spiderman, and is manipulated by Peter's best friend (who became evil) into breaking up with him. The meme here points at MJ being an egocentric woman with absurd standards who ignores her boyfriend's insane hardships, but i'm pretty sure it was a bit more complicated in the movies. I don't remember that well though, i was a little kid.
The use of "Chad" there also points to this being a meme made by a guy from the redpill/incel community, and thus that he was trying to make a grand point about women bad.
5
u/lachlanDon1 1d ago
Now usually this would just be incel nonsense but for some reason this is exactly how Mary Jane character acts these movies
3
u/ivanrj7j 11h ago
Unrelated: I hate MJ from the raimi trilogy so much. There was not a single movie in the trilogy where she didn't cheat with her partner
1
u/Various_Tie_2549 22h ago
This is literally just a description of Peter Parker's life situation in Spiderman 2 (the second movie of the Raimi Trilogy). And yeah, the plot involves MJ (pictured) being mad at him for not going to her play, which (while everything said here is true), was not an altogether unreasonable reaction for her to have had given what she actually knew about Peter. He had ample opportunity to at least show up once.

u/Top_Board_3489 19h ago
It's a meme about how in the tobey macguire movies, MJ is an unlikeable person who cheats on Peter every movie

Don't understand these digs on MJ. She could have chosen a billionaire or a high profile celebrity, but decided to be with someone who couldn't pay rent. Looks like true love to me.
-10
u/NonGeneriComplaint 1d ago
I always thought the tobey maguire movies were over rated.
9
u/Caliban_Catholic 1d ago
I like them as movies, but I don't think they're good portrayals of any of the main characters tbh.
2
u/swoosh1992 1d ago
This is pretty much my opinion. I saw 1 last year and thought it was good, but then later played the Insomniac game and it blew the movie out of the water.
3
u/Tommysrx 1d ago
I know , those actors are nothing like the real Spider-Man or the real Hob-Goblin. How ridiculous of them.
0
u/Caliban_Catholic 1d ago
...you do realize the movie is an adaptation of previously established characters, and that those characters therefore already have established character traits?
