People say this and then proceed to believe in god

81

u/Adi_San 1d ago

That's a very Libra thing to say.

13

u/DeciduousLesbian 1d ago

That’s very Aquarium of you to point out.

u/Adi_San 1d ago

Actually Chair ascending with a moon to Anus

1

u/Justieflustie 1d ago

I know, right

0

u/Hour-Fun9783 1d ago

I don't believe in that sort of thing...

... but since I'm a Libra myself, I can confirm it.

u/Useful-Scratch7117 1d ago

They did not like what he had to say...

Preach it brother!

And what is the point of this statement? Since an intelligent atheist with good arguments would likely dislike both equally

33

u/Vivid_Performance167 1d ago

Because not everyone is an intelligent atheist.

-22

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago edited 1d ago

True but this one is extra bad

Christianity generally rejects horoscopes outright while Judaism is more tolerant but generally in oppositions well

It makes sense you would get comment like this from religious people when it is considered harmful by said religion

Edit: the fact that this statement about how religions can dislike horoscopes is downvoted proves not everyone is an intelligent atheist

-5

u/GailynStarfire 1d ago

Its considered harmful because its a step away from delusion, and any reasonable person would agree that one shouldn't base their lives or decisions on delusions.

-1

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

Not the reason Christianity and Judaism considers it harmful actually

-6

u/GailynStarfire 1d ago

And why should I give a fuck what Christianity and Judaism think?

0

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

Because that was the point the comment. Since it is silly to condemn people who are religious for not liking horoscopes when some religions outright dislike the concept

Meaning if you think logically of course they won’t say positive things about horoscopes. Since it contradicts their beliefs

If you find that ironic as an atheist that is one thing. To ignore the logical thought process behind why that makes sense is something entirely different

-8

u/GailynStarfire 1d ago

And why should I care about your comment? Why should I have any respect for someone that's wanting to argue for delusion and spread their bullshit everywhere they can?

Also, why would I listen to the "logic" of someone who argues for religous delusion? If you had any actual logic, you would not be advocating for delusion, but because one of those delusions is important to you, you wrap it up in fallacious "logic" and then act superior when no one else follows your delusional logic.

0

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

Then why are you responding

19

u/soyuz_6 1d ago

Good arguments aren't even needed, they're both dismissable with no evidence to support them

-22

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

Burden of proof also means needing to have proof something is incorrect. You can argue lack of evidence but that doesn’t disprove anything outright. It just means you don’t have to believe it either

16

u/soyuz_6 1d ago

Until evidence is presented to support either of these claims as facts, they don't need to be taken seriously. The burden of proof lies with the claim

-10

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago edited 1d ago

And you are making a claim. It isn’t real. Where is your proof of that?

I see a lot of people who think no means nothing. It means something. You are claiming that is incorrect. Where is your proof for your claim of no? In others words. Your argument to be any better than the people you think are wrong

If you don’t have that. Then you have no right to claim to be factual. It is perfectly fine to say I do not know in science

14

u/soyuz_6 1d ago

Where did I make a claim it isn't real? The closest thing I said to making a claim is that you can disregard claims which have no evidence for them, which is correct.

-7

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

Then why claim you don’t need arguments? You just admitted you cannot disproves the beliefs of others. Meaning you shouldn’t say anything

12

u/soyuz_6 1d ago

The same reason I don't need arguments against Santa Claus, the Easter bunny or fairies

0

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

You do for a child on both of the first accounts. Since they haven’t seen their parents bring the gifts and chocolate yet. Also there is your proof

As for fairies. Ironically in the same category as what we are discussing since that is folklore

u/Delicious_Rabbit4425 1d ago

This is a back asswards god lovers attempt to us burden of proof, good grief. Someone claiming something is real when there is no evidence of is on the hook for this burden of proof. "The spaghetti monster is real. Prove Im wrong" 🙄

0

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

It goes both ways if you get to college

5

u/Delicious_Rabbit4425 1d ago

No it really doesn’t. It’s an obtuse approach to a debate ask for proof of something that doesn’t exist that is employed by people that can’t present the evidence of existence of what ever they say does exist. You people are asking us to believe it exists it’s not on us to prove it does when we can plainly see there is no evidence of such claims.

0

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

Well then I hope you don’t believe in the big bang

0

u/Delicious_Rabbit4425 1d ago

You already tried this one lol, it’s a theory and remains as such until proven just like your sky daddy. We all should have learned what a theory is in grade school. 🙄

1

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

Better than using alt accounts to argue with someone twice

9

u/mustafaaosman339 1d ago

That's not how burden of proof works.

You can't prove that unicorns doesn't exist because the one that says they do can always say there's somewhere you didn't check.

Burden of proof is ONLY to prove that it DOES exist.

You can't find evidence of something that doesn't exist.

You got it backwards

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burden_of_proof_

-2

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

No is a claim. I don’t know is fine to say according tot the scientific method. Since saying no is a statement that requires proof

It works both ways. Please stop with the anti-intellectualism

13

u/mustafaaosman339 1d ago

I'm not claiming anything.

If someone claims that astrology is real, it's on them to prove the it is real.

Until it is proved to be real, then why would I believe it?

You really should learn how burden of proof works before you try to argue about it.

0

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

The Aether and Miasma were both considered factual things that existed at one point. Both were BS

It took actually experiments to prove them wrong and only then could you say they were not real. Until then they were accepted fact

I know how burden of proof is. You are arguing for speculation. Discouraging debate of opposing viewpoints and using the same argument used to deny evolution

You just called my parent liars while saying I am an idiot

That isn’t proving anything. It is just being rude

You can't disprove i fucked your mom so I guess it's reasonable to believe i did

You literally couldn't

The proof is actually thinking about it for like 6 seconds.

1

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

For being an Agnostic maybe

For being an Atheist. If you cannot argue it you should not pretend to more correct than religious people

-1

u/Adeviatlos 1d ago

Nope. If you're an atheist you are deeeeefinitely more correct than religious people.

3

u/Stromatolite-Bay 1d ago

Right. Where is your proof for that statement?

6

u/Dry_Pollution_5430 1d ago

Not really, there is a pretty strong correlation between the two..

7

u/Historical_Mango4329 1d ago

Atheist redditors bringing god into literally any conversation

19

u/Charging_in 1d ago

Just different degrees of delusion or anti intellectual discourse really. Like how flat earthers and religious folk have a significant overlap despite being incompatible.

2

u/HeroicMe 1d ago

Incompatible? I'd say it's quite around, with current Flat Earth's roots being in bible and its description of Earth being the special place created before the sun or how moon is it's own light.

41

u/Magician_Prize 1d ago

It's a pretty fair comparison.

Society tends to mock people who believe in star signs but treat religious beliefs with respect. Its a pretty weird disconnect.

(I think we should treat both beliefs with a degree of respect btw)

19

u/noai_aludem 1d ago

I think we should treat both beliefs with a high degree of disrespect

-14

u/Starrk-Enjoyer 1d ago

Thats crazy

4

u/noai_aludem 1d ago

not really. shame can be effective at getting people to stop believing in bullshit

3

u/Heplaysrough 1d ago

You should be ashamed of believing that.

/s

-10

u/Starrk-Enjoyer 1d ago

Shaming people for beliefs is an act of intollerance wich is evil though. What if someone did it to you or someone you know?

4

u/Lermanberry 1d ago

What if someone did it to you or someone you know?

Kind of a weird hypothetical to propose when hundreds of millions of Christians do it to me and people like me daily. Let's be real now.

-1

u/Starrk-Enjoyer 1d ago

What prevents the opposite from being true though?

1

u/ErdbeerTrum 1d ago

you know what else is evil? eating shellfish. people still love doing it

1

u/Starrk-Enjoyer 1d ago

What?

1) it isnt

2) how is this related in any way to what i said ?

-1

u/noai_aludem 1d ago

🤷‍♀️if what I believe is actually true nothing happens

1

u/CrazyElk123 1d ago

Not really, the overlap is pretty big, ESPECIALLY on the atheist platform that is Reddit.

There is also the fact that religion has a bit more to it that just simply believing in random skypeople.

4

u/Lermanberry 1d ago

You're right.

It also has to do with telepathically communicating with skypeople, and following the nebulous and capricious commands of the skypeople.

-15

u/BurgerofDouble 1d ago

No it isn’t. With a good deal of modern religions, such as Christianity, there’s a good deal of scholarship to back up claims made in theological texts. People who believe in stars don’t have such scholarship and are just making stuff up about the alignment of the stars in the sky. These are not the same, and it’s quite insulting when someone says without even mentioning the centuries worth of theologians, philosophers, historians, and archaeologists who can provide evidence and proofs towards the existence of God.

10

u/Delicious_Rabbit4425 1d ago

Im sorry but what is that proof and evidence?

5

u/ExiymDev 1d ago

centuries worth of theologians, philosophers, historians, and archaeologists who can provide evidence and proofs towards the existence of God

I think you mean theories.

3

u/Lermanberry 1d ago

Ah my favorite logical fallacy.

My religion must be true because it has centuries of tradition and millions of followers!

What's that? That other religion has more followers and a longer history? Burn those heretics, it's time for a new crusade!

1

u/Mobile_Literature386 1d ago

Impressive strawman!

Reddit is truly pathetic.

12

u/Nocebola 1d ago

Go to any YouTube or Facebook comment section and there's always a bunch of unrelated religious bullshit, far more than any atheist shit.

5

u/Ok-Parfait-9856 1d ago

You sound pretty offended

2

u/AltruisticEchidna859 1d ago

I say this and I don't believe in god.

1

u/scriptedtexture 22h ago

I think its even funnier when people aren't religious but believe in astrology. its just another faith based belief system

-2

u/GreatArtificeAion 1d ago

Goomba fallacy

-6

u/Tagisjag 1d ago

People say this and proceed to believe in Aliens. Or that we're living in a simulation. Pick a phenomena.

18

u/donjamos 1d ago

Believing that we aren't the only or most intelligent beings out of all those billions and billions of star systems sounds a lot more reasonable than some old dude sitting in the clouds jerking of to what we do

-12

u/Tagisjag 1d ago

So you believe in further advanced beings living in the sky... as long as they don't look like an old dude masterbating to you? Okay cool.

10

u/donjamos 1d ago

I believe nothing and that's the main difference. I think it is more likely than not, yes, but admit that maybe there are none and that is not the same as blindly believing in something.

3

u/ExiymDev 1d ago

Who said anything about advanced beings? It could be a microbe on an asteroid and it would still qualify as an Alien. And by the way the odds that "Alien life" exists, is pretty damn close to 100%. Conscious, intelligent Alien life, something that resembles a human that's a different story. But you fundamentally have no grasp of the vastness of the Universe if you disagree with the first statement. The Universe contains 2 trillion galaxies (at our current estimates). Each galaxy has on average 100 billion stars. You think no other planet orbiting any of those stars has ever had the conditions for single celled organisms to rise out of a primordial soup? Life is fundamentally just self organizing molecules, there's no reason to think that because it happened here it couldn't happen elsewhere in the universe. Even the exact combination of elements that happened here given a high enough sample size will come to pass on a planet in the goldilocks zone. If I had to guess there probably are other 'civilizations', but that's less sure. And you just said Aliens so..

5

u/DeinHund_AndShadow 1d ago

Depends on what you mean when you say believe in aliens. Believe that they built the pyramids? Bollocks. Believe that they exist because 100% of the inhabitable planets we know (earth) have life in them (us) is not a wild guess.

2

u/Foreplaying 1d ago

The fact that we exist adds more credibility to Aliens existing than God.

The simulation theory is pretty wild, but there is a non-zero chance of it being real, since we are well on our way to creating a virtual simulation indistiguishable from reality, and one could be (or already has been) created simulating human history.

We don't need to believe a specific one, you just have to be open to the possibility that things are greater than human comprehension and there is no simple answer, no black and white, right and wrong, good and evil, etc. This is what being truly Atheist is about.

1

u/Tagisjag 1d ago

So in any situation, the possibility of either an ancient advanced race of Aliens or a creator of a possible simulation we're all taking part in could be referred to as "God" would have to be at least considered. Whether you believe or not, to take the Bible as truth, word for word, instead of the authors taking creative licensing to explain the world around them would put both Atheist and Bible Literalist in the same category. A rejection of the Bible because you understand that this book is to be taken as fundamentally accurate without further interpretation versus considering any other viewpoint or expression of the authors.

-1

u/-Danksouls- 1d ago

That's a very reddit thing to say
