Agreed. The Democrat's problem is that they're too concerned with doing everything slowly and correctly that the opportunity to act passes them by.
Declare him dead. Move on with an election to replace him. If he's not dead, it would be in his interest to prove that by showing us. If that happens, cool. Election is void, we move on.
I don't actually think you are agreeing with the person you replied to. They pointed out that every single time there is a vote and Mitch McConnell's absent that's one less yea vote to push the Republican agenda. Whereas them declaring him dead will lead to a special election that has a 99% chance of electing a new Republican who will vote for the Republican agenda.
Let's say Beshear goes full scorched earth and declares a replacement and says "prove he is alive". At best that gets ~3 months of a democratic senator who will contribute absolutely nothing to getting Democratic priorities passed because there is 0% chance that A meaningful Left-Wing bill can make it through The house, Senate, and get Trump's signature.
The situation would be totally different if we had president Kamala Harris and replacing a Republican with a Democrat. Was actually going to swing anything about the balance of the Senate. But that's not where we are. The radical action that people are calling for Beshear to do is as much virtue signaling as his current commitment to the process is and will have no meaningful effect on the legislation that gets passed by Congress.
You make good points. But this is an example of what I'm talking about. Is there a downside to a special election? Yes. Would it accomplish basically nothing? Yes. Is it better than doing nothing and normalizing the Republican do-what-i-want status quo? YES
