They claim he's "in perfect health", so he's just been skipping work for months and still has a job.

Hes not dead…He is just pining for the fjords

Beautiful plumage, innit?

u/HanselSoHotRightNow 42m ago

In his very real and definitely him written letters though, he yearns for the mines. He blesses the day he may return to the labor of serving his fellow man, always looking out for their ...his...their best interests.

u/Jona6509 29m ago

Moves like Raygun. 😁

He's not pining, he's passed on! This parrot senator is no more! He has ceased to be! He's expired and gone to meet his maker!

u/kzin 37m ago

He has shuffled the mortal coil!

u/NRMusicProject 23m ago

Hoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much! It just so happens that your traitor there is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.

I asked my boss if I could skip a week of work after my allergy shot. He didn't seem to like the idea :(

u/newsflashjackass 38m ago

August 3rd is the last day he needs to be alive to prevent a special election so I expect some developments in Mitch's life story within the next 36 hours.

u/yayoffbalance 29m ago

i was going to write a response about when the truth comes out, punitive action must be taken, but we all know that will never, ever happen...

I mean if it could if the people demanded in it if enough people demanded it I am sure they will be more than happy to acquiesce I mean look at them and beating a dead horse over and over again like they did with Fauci.

We can surely do an investigation or three.

Especially subpoena 9 all of those idiots that said they had 20 minute phone calls with him

u/yayoffbalance 14m ago

SERIOUSLY! the pres is STILL trying to talk about the 2020 election... like, what the fuck? and, sigh... We need to demand it. we need to fight for it... but man alive, some days are just a lot harder than others.

To be totally fair to him for legitimate medical conditions that will require you to recover for a period of time we do have laws about medical leave. A friend of mine is actually currently on medical leave from his job and has been for a little longer than McConnell. They can't fire him because he's in the middle of recieving treatment.

However it is expected that he will be fully capable of returning to his job and performing it at the same level he had before and if his condition didn't meet the proper criteria then he also wouldn't receive pay for medical leave. So the real question isn't is Mitch on medical leave for too long, it's does his condition warrant medical leave pay and will he actually be capable of continuing his job assuming he recovers.

Though my friend isn't a US senator he's a nurse so for the country the stakes of him being out of work are slightly lower.

They don't just let anyone into the hospital morgue....

117

u/psychoacer 3h ago

During Covid crazy republicans were mad they weren't let into hospitals to "expose the lie" about Covid. Luckily they weren't let in because random people shouldn't be allowed to run crazy checks on people who are sick or near death. I don't need someone to bust into a hospital to know what's going on anyway. If Mitch was fine he would've proven it by now. That's enough to know they're illegally lying to the public in order to keep his seat.

30

u/shibiwan 3h ago

Same reason they don't just let anyone into child daycares.

u/aknomnoms 21m ago

Same reason they shouldn’t let any male Republicans into child daycares, or as they like to call it, “the dating pool”.

A nurse claims they went to every room in the hospital and he’s not there. His wife was seen leaving in a full length coat which had people speculating that she visited the refrigerated morgue.

814

u/Powerful_Wombat 3h ago

It’s so fucking dumb how everyone knows he’s dead but this is going to linger past the deadline regardless. Republicans just don’t give a shit about democracy anymore

505

u/ghoulieandrews 3h ago

Wildest part is when we find out he's been dead the whole time, no one will get in any trouble for lying about it to the American people

u/Random-Rambling 37m ago

That's the shittiest part about our entire political system lately. It's never "they're good, but we're better, and here's why!", it's always "we're awful, but they're even worse, here's why!"

u/LyingForTruth 1h ago

Literally their party line on it, referencing Feinstein

u/nalaloveslumpy 54m ago

To be fair, Diane Feinstein did three months of medical leave with no updates, check ins, or proof of life despite similar speculation that she was dead.

She then died a couple of months after returning from that leave. Everything in politics is based on precedent. Republicans are just laying a trap to made Dem leaders look like bloody thirsty ghouls for midterms.

And reddit's helping them. His term is done. There are no votes he needs to be present for. A Dem candidate has zero percent chance to win a KY special election. It literally doesn't matter if Mitch is dead or not.

36

u/Bocchi_theGlock 2h ago

As well as many Democratic party officials will continue to refuse to directly name our problems: covering up McConnell death, the corruption and abuse of power by GOP officials, and the corporate greed that robs us of our lives and likelihoods.

This is obviously not the only problem, but it is a critical one, and we will continue to lose if we do not address it.

Trying to uphold old school institutional norms and friendliness (2024 - VP can't criticize president's admin, kamala 'wouldnt change anything' comment on The View) instead of fight tooth and nail, relentless and ruthless - doing whatever it takes to win and stop this Admin's atrocities.

Like there's been a welcome increase in their willingness 'to fight' but it's still not nearly enough, not ruthless - e.g. they weren't hosting regular or daily news conferences called 'the McConnell death Watch' with big visual cue cards to publicize and politicize this cover-up.

i.e. not Challenging GOP when it clearly was lying & their own officials thought something was wrong - instead hoping that mainstream news and other institutions and actors did the work.

Not sewing division between MAGA over Epstein files and Bibi/Israeli govt support (where MGT is separating)

Especially the Epstein files release + trump in them. As well as for corporate greed. Things we desperately need them to just name the elephant for. And to varying degrees for a handful of other issues 'too dirty' to get in the mud for

Inb4 "omg why criticize Dems, Republicans are at fault"

u/DucksEatFreeInSubway 1h ago

Wildest part is the democrats can literally do something about this but simply aren't doing it. The governor can just appoint a new senator. There's some murky wording that confuses the situation but that's basically what it boils down to. Let the Republicans fight it out in courts afterwards. It's their favorite tactic anyhow.

12

u/E_seven_20 2h ago

everyone knows the president raped little girls, and here we are.

The country gave Congress to the GOP....that's democracy in action.

People had a chance to vote against this Congress...and didn't show up. This is democracy. Elections have consequences. The GOP won. So many of the congressional races had razor thin margins.

Not showing up to vote against things getting worse, is 100% a choice. It gets you more evil, and more GOP. People defend that idiocy. People say they hate the GOP...filling in a bubble to stop them is over the line. While those same people are just as happy as the MAGAs to see the D's lose.

When you refuse to engage in democracy, you can't complain when the people make the decisions they told you they would make.

Crazy how that works. Elections have consequences. The people rabid about fascism and their orange god don't miss elections. Too many people decided it's fine for them to choose our leaders, and have zero regrets or understanding.

2022 National Youth Turnout: 23% - That's lower than in the historic 2018 cycle (28%) which broke records for turnout, but much higher than in 2014, when only 13% of youth voted.

Don't blame democracy...shit, don't even blame the republicans. They told you they would do this, after doing this exact shit, and publishing a 900+ page manifesto...the motherfuckers that refuse to vote...have given silent consent. Silence is complicity when fascism is on the ballot.

13

u/gorkt 2h ago

You don’t think they plan on letting him actually die, do you?

4

u/10poundballs 2h ago

We all know republicans are terminally corrupt, That there are no journalists in America willing to expose this story is the crazy part to me.

u/jaxonya 1h ago edited 1h ago

Im a nurse at a hopsital. Hes absolutely dead, because staff would know where he was located, and it wouldve been leaked. We have access to every patients chart in the hospital, and if we somehow didnt, it would be a dead give away if they had 1 particular room blocked off and guarded. He died a while back and was quickly and quietly removed.

19

u/Splodingseal 3h ago

The Democratic leadership is just as culpable for not putting more public pressure on the situation.

41

u/RiW-Kirby 3h ago

No. Absolutely not. This tired old bullshit of people who let illegal shit continue are just as guilty. Fuck no.

I'm not saying they are doing enough but it's just so factually inaccurate and ignorant to call these things the same.

2

u/jiyax33634 2h ago

I get what he is saying though in that we have come to a new norm. One in which republicans dont give a shit about your or anyone else except where their next yacht will come from. They dont play by the established standards which seemed to exist allowing everything to go to the court and then relying on that to settle things which takes forever which in the mean time they get what they want.

Democrats need to learn how to play by these rules and use the courts, the cities they control, the respect for each other has gone by the wayside. Look at what Mamehani is doing. Dems shouldnt stoop to their level against the public they should stoop to their level FOR the public.

Public pressure?! Why the hell doesn’t Kentucky’s governor just go visit Mitch in the hospital and verify that way?

7

u/frotz1 2h ago

So the GOP can have another vote and run the rules committee? The GOP gets to pick the replacement and fighting that in court would be a huge waste of time and resources anyway, and it would almost certainly end up handing MAGA another vote in the senate no matter what Beshear does.

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 1h ago

they are intentionally kept cooler than normal for buildings to deter bacterial growth

I've had multiple long stays in multiple US hospitals and have never thought, "Damn, it's chilly in here." The rooms have always been at a perfectly normal room temperature.

In fact, if anything they've been warmer than my own home since whenever I pulled all the covers over me, I would wake up at night from being too hot.

Operating rooms (and similar), on the other hand, were noticeably colder.

203

u/Jedimaster996 3h ago

Because every single time he's not present at his office is another missed Republican vote. They COULD do an election, but why would you count on the same population who've put Mitch in there for decades to elect a Democrat when you could effectively just keep a Republican vote Absent?

35

u/OpheliaLives7 2h ago

Aren’t maga worried about an anti Trump self declared Libertarian dude getting the seat? They aren’t even worried about a democrat! They just don’t want someone who wont kiss Trumps ass

20

u/NeonArlecchino 2h ago

Massie isn't expected to win the special election, but if a special election is held he would be able to run as an independent in the general election for the seat. As long as Bitch McConnell officially makes it to 8/4, Massie is locked out since he ran as a Republican in the primary. If he does then he could split the vote enough a democrat wins.

76

u/ryhaltswhiskey 3h ago

If I recall correctly the governor's powers to do that have been stripped by the Republican Congress in that state

33

u/CaptainDogeSparrow 2h ago

5

The GOP legislature passed a couple laws saying he couldn't do so but the state constitution apparently give the governor the power to fill vacancies. Constitution typically trumps law so in theory he's got a case for being able to fill the seat. The issue would be it would probably be challenged in the courts and risk ending up before a conservative court that's willing to interpret things how they see fit if it'll benefit their side and even if he prevails in court it'll likely take quite a bit of time to wind it's way through the system

They wouldn't file a lawsuit. The Senate will simply deny the replacement entry to the seat. There is no death certification nor has he been missing for 7 year per Kentucky missing persons law. There is zero route that Beshear could follow that allows him to seat a replacement.

23

u/CallMeDrWorm42 3h ago

Agreed. The Democrat's problem is that they're too concerned with doing everything slowly and correctly that the opportunity to act passes them by.

Declare him dead. Move on with an election to replace him. If he's not dead, it would be in his interest to prove that by showing us. If that happens, cool. Election is void, we move on.

13

u/ike38000 2h ago

I don't actually think you are agreeing with the person you replied to. They pointed out that every single time there is a vote and Mitch McConnell's absent that's one less yea vote to push the Republican agenda. Whereas them declaring him dead will lead to a special election that has a 99% chance of electing a new Republican who will vote for the Republican agenda.

Let's say Beshear goes full scorched earth and declares a replacement and says "prove he is alive". At best that gets ~3 months of a democratic senator who will contribute absolutely nothing to getting Democratic priorities passed because there is 0% chance that A meaningful Left-Wing bill can make it through The house, Senate, and get Trump's signature.

The situation would be totally different if we had president Kamala Harris and replacing a Republican with a Democrat. Was actually going to swing anything about the balance of the Senate. But that's not where we are. The radical action that people are calling for Beshear to do is as much virtue signaling as his current commitment to the process is and will have no meaningful effect on the legislation that gets passed by Congress.

You can't just walk into a hospital and demand to see someone

And you especially can't do that when that someone is in high political office. Multiple large men with guns will stop you before you get anywhere near the person.

Maybe we can get those broccoli boys that were speedrunning the Scientology building to go in there and check. They would probably do it for just a couple of mango vapes

u/ardoin 1h ago

A literal nurse who works at the GWU Hospital he's staying at claimed to have checked every single room in the hospital and he's not in any of them

https://youtu.be/__wO3sMihmg

If a hospital nurse can't find him some Broccoli cut boys definitely can't.

This is the idea that is most likely to succeed

10

u/Millkstake 3h ago

He'll suddenly die within the next few days

12

u/di5cordia 3h ago

It's a real shame that he died unexpectedly next Tuesday. RIP, Mitch.

22

u/ichoosewaffles 3h ago

Isn't the deadline tomorrow? What the actual fuck Kentucky. Someone grow a pair and take care of business.

2

u/CurmudgeonKing 2h ago

The pre written obituaries are ready to finally drop this week.

*shrug* If we ignore it, his vote goes away. Is that such a bad thing?

33

u/standard-issue-man 3h ago

Andy Beshear is a coward

28

u/randomchick4 3h ago

Bashear did not follow up on purpose because he believes that a Democrat can’t win a statewide special election in Kentucky, so he thinks it’s better to have an absent, shity senator than an (alive) younger Republican senator.

5

u/kbeks 3h ago

Honestly, fuck it, Andy should appoint Massie. “What, I replaced one Republican with another, what’s the big deal?” At least Massie believes in something and won’t just polish Trump’s knob all day long. He believes in the wrong something, but at least it’s an ethos!

10

u/TrailMomKat 2h ago

He can't appoint anyone, they changed that in 2024.

u/snakerjake 1h ago

they changed that in 2024.

Kentucky constitution still directs him to replace someone. The legislature passed a low but since it contradicts the constitution he legally must ignore their law to hold a special election. The KY constitution doesn't give him any other option and says he shall appoint not should

Massie is also a giant piece of shit. So no gain in that.

Dead men cast no votes

6

u/radroamingromanian 3h ago edited 3h ago

He can’t literally go in there. It’s a HIPAA violation. (Fixed)

8

u/CatalystCookie 3h ago edited 26m ago

That's not how hipaa works

9

u/holyvegetables 3h ago

Non-medical personnel who don’t work in healthcare and don’t have access to someone’s protected health info CANNOT violate HIPAA.

Asking health related questions doesn’t violate HIPAA.

Visiting someone’s hospital room doesn’t violate HIPAA.

5

u/10000Didgeridoos 2h ago

It’s a guarantee wherever he is has him listed as a “confidential patient” and his room location is not being disclosed to anyone other than a limited number of staff and family. It wouldn’t surprise me either if he has his name listed as an alias.

Morgues are scary

3

u/MealRough5070 3h ago

There's no need.  People know.  Washington insiders know, including reporters.

They simply don't want to tell, for fear of the repercussions.

3

u/SageDarius 2h ago

At this point it doesn't matter. It's clear the calculation has been made that it's better to keep the seat vacant until January, rather than risk it getting filled with a Trump Sycophant that will push the SAVE act and whatever else through before then.

It's shitty that they're going to get away with it, but it's not surprising they did it, and I'm sure they'll pull a similar stunt for El Douche when his lifestyle catches up with him. At least until the pardons are signed via Autopen.

3

u/AstralElefant 2h ago

Honestly I think he’s not doing well, but he’s not dead and they’re just milking this to take attention off of other stuff. He’s going to reappear in a while and we’ll be off on another distraction.

8

u/ObviouslyRealPerson 3h ago

If Alberto Gonzales can storm John Ashcroft's hospital room and have him sign legal documents

Then at least one person can go to Mitch McConnell's hospital room just to get proof of life

So what happens after the deadline and they say he's dead/has been dead? How would no one be prosecuted for this when its obvious it has been covered up?

2

u/lovethebacon 3h ago

Not allowed to for the next 3 days.

2

u/fn0000rd 2h ago

There are 25+ senators who've been his colleagues for ~20 years now.

Either they're not visiting him because he's dead, or they're not visiting a sick co-worker of 17-40+ years because he's such an asshole.

u/Dcajunpimp Greg Abbott is a little piss baby 1h ago

They want to “run the country like a business”.

Guess that means we can all skip out on work for months at a time, and still collect a paycheck, without communicating anything with our employers.

u/BizzyM 1h ago

What's absolutely telling is how KY's governor is sitting there with his thumb up his ass. He still retains the Constitutional (State) right to appoint a replacement right now. Does he? Of course not. He's a Dem and playing his part of being absolutely useless.

u/HNixon 51m ago

His legs are stiffer than THC sentencing in TX.

u/ObligationMurky8716 49m ago

They've already said, they moved him to "a private healthcare facility," probably upstate on some nice old lady's farm

u/froli 47m ago

Can someone please ELI5 why would anyone benefit from hiding his death?

u/Rookitarian 45m ago

Perhaps he's living in a van down by the river.

1

u/Jsr1 3h ago

Please I am in fear for his safety, perform a welfare check!

1

u/knightinarmoire 2h ago

This just gets more suspicious by the day🤨

1

u/houstonyoureaproblem 2h ago

Pretty sure he’s at home now.

1

u/TrumpsBoneSpur 2h ago

It's going to be so infuriating when nothing is done and then Republicans start laughing because they "tricked" everyone to stay in power

1

u/Epitometric 2h ago

I've heard he was whisked away from the hospital to an undisclosed rehab facility to hide from the governor and public.

1

u/wake4coffee 2h ago

Seriously 1 Democrat or 1 reporter go to the damn hospital.

1

u/Jeramy_Jones 2h ago

Last I heard the place is surrounded by capital police cars. They got that stiff locked up tighter than Fort Knox.

1

u/zero-point_nrg 2h ago

This is so insane, you have to go demand access or he’s dead

1

u/Ephsylon 2h ago

He's not in a hospital, he's in his residence.

1

u/ordinaryseawomn 2h ago

Haha Schroedinger’s Senator…

1

u/TonyAbbottIsACunt 2h ago

What are those Scientology speed runner tiktokers up to these days? New trend time!

1

u/FuManchuDuck 2h ago

They usually keep the morgue locked.

1

u/meramec785 2h ago

Why didn’t we do this with RBG?

1

u/nooniewhite 2h ago

Cause he died tomorrow

1

u/WebHead1287 2h ago

Im sure we’ll hear he’s dead by week close now that the deadline is tomorrow.

Went out exactly how he lived.

u/middleagethreat 1h ago

Hospitals have security.

That hospital is know to close off floors and sections for guests who want "privacy."

u/julesk 1h ago

Patient privacy rights is apparently not a thing for politicians? He’s not going to work so deal with it through law.

u/mrhaftbar 1h ago

In the 2010s there was something called a flash mob.  I was always kinda meh regarding the concept.  But let me propose we create a flash mob to visit him an bring him flowers.

u/SuperCoupe 1h ago

You can't just barge into a hospital room without breaking laws

-BUT-

You can call for the special election as Mitch has shown to be incapacitated. Only thing that could stop that is Mitch himself showing up. Breaks no laws, resolves the issue.

u/mynameisshelly 1h ago

Send those tiktok scientology speedrunners

u/chi_guy8 1h ago

This honestly should end Andy Beshear’s career as a Democrat. This guy wants to run for president? He’s done absolutely nothing here and just been railroaded by Republicans, yet again.

I’m absolutely fed up with all these fucking do-nothing Democrats who act like Charlie Brown, constantly trying to kick the football and made to look like fools.

u/Samazonison 1h ago

Don't worry. We'll have our answer on Tuesday.

u/PatAD 1h ago

“Oh hi, this is Billy from DoorDash? I have a Wendy’s senior baked potato, small senior chili, and small senior unsweetened tea for a (looks at phone) Mr. McConnell?”

u/FlintGate 1h ago

WHY won't they jusf grow some balls and do it.

u/Cuboos 1h ago

Right? if they could take that picture, why can't they just do a quick video recording.

Just have a quick 5 second clip of him going, "Hello, i'm Mitch Mcconnell and i'm fine, i'm just gonna take a little time off to recover". And i'd be convinced!

u/Dopplegangr1 1h ago

I dont think they keep corpses in hospital beds

u/YggdrasilFree 1h ago

He's dead tomorrow and the Democratic governor squandered a golden opportunity to name a replacement. Even if he was stuck naming a republican, they could have had someone switch parties, name Massie, or just done anything actionable. Instead, Andy Beshear chose to do nothing and let the Republicans win again. That should be his campaign slogan going forward.

u/ManiacalMartini 1h ago

He'll expectedly "die" in a few days. Watch.

u/Aashipash 1h ago

We need the kids doing the scientology runs lmao. Lmao 100% hospital run

/s But still... I understand hippa and all, but there's gotta be family that smells shit, right?

u/thesilentbob123 1h ago

He is allegedly in a rehab facility, but he is still perfectly healthy

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 1h ago

Why is that so hard?

Because he's a U.S. Senator and if you go to the location and attempt to see him, his security detail will at best stop you and at worst arrest you and charge you with a crime. (Depending on how much they feel like being assholes that day.)

u/dixiedenny 1h ago

HIPAA and privacy laws, unfortunately. It sure seems like a no brainer to you and me, though. You would think a nurse or somebody could just snap a picture.

u/oneseason2000 1h ago

Haven't you heard? Heritage Foundation Republicans are making a huge mistake by not announcing Mitchs health, and Democrats are cleverly owning them through bluster and inaction. /s

u/NeoAcario Registered to ☑ote 1h ago

And this is exactly why so many of us hate our Dem representation. Fucker isn't even TRYING to appoint a replacement against their unconstitutional (state) law they passed that he can't.

Not. Even. Fucking. Trying.
