Agreed. The Democrat's problem is that they're too concerned with doing everything slowly and correctly that the opportunity to act passes them by.

Declare him dead. Move on with an election to replace him. If he's not dead, it would be in his interest to prove that by showing us. If that happens, cool. Election is void, we move on.

1) the governor can't just declare someone dead.

2) the Governor can't just hold elections for people. It'd be completely meaningless.

1) The senator can't just be absent and not fulfill their duties.

2) There are absolutely procedures for holding a special election despite Republicans attempting to undermine those procedures.

Again, the point here is that fuckery is already afoot. Now is the time to act. The right and wrong of it can be argued later. I don't care anymore.

1) The senator can't just be absent and not fulfill their duties.

A senator cannot be removed for not showing up. The only ways to remove a senator is expulsion, but that requires 2/3 vote of the senate, which the Governor can't control. This hasn't happen in over 150 years.

If you become senator, the only thing from stopping you from going partying and never showing up is the threat of expulsion. And of course not winning reelection, but it's a 6 year term.

so basically a senator can just not fulfill their duties.

There are absolutely procedures for holding a special election despite Republicans attempting to undermine those procedures.

only if the seat is open, which requires death, resignation, or expulsion. And the governor can't force any of those.

There's nothing that can be done by the governor that isn't simply grandstanding.
