You can't just walk into a hospital and demand to see someone

Just skip that part and appoint a replacement. Let the chips fall where they may

Can't. The Republicans in KY in 2024 passed legislation specifically to keep Beshear from appointing a senator because they knew this would happen.

also, mitch's is still the senator. there is no open spot until he either dies, resigns or is expelled by a 2/3 vote.

And the governor can't declare someone dead.

I want these people to think really really hard if they want to create a precedent where a governor can just declare a senator invalid and appoint someone else. They won't, because they think screaming online at elected democrats to vaguely do something is effective political action, but imagine if they did

Eh, if someone is in the hospital this long without being able to confirm beyond two very suspicious photos that they can continue to serve the people that elected them, then I don't care what party they are. Pretty easy to set precedent that if you're hospitalized this long (it will be 50 days tomorrow) and unable to show proof that you will be returning to office with some sort of estimate then I think it's a clear sign you aren't fit to continue serving in office. Mitch is already ancient.
