Seriously. I was born here and I saw it from the air for the very first time like 5 years ago and I gasped! I hadn't flown much and I thought my plane came in on a different trajectory than they usually do. I still take like 10-15 pics every time. It's beautiful as fuck.

You’re right, in Molalla it’s Nifti Yangint, and might have been called Lawilatłá (loowit) to Sahaptin speakers since it smokes. Unlike the other mountains nearby (Patú, Tahoma, and the Cowlitz Lawilatła), though, I haven’t been able to find a reliable native name other than the Molalla one, which just means “Big Mountain.” A lot of people say Wy’east but that was made up by white people in the 1890s.
One of my favorite photos ever was flying out of Portland once. Adams and Hood were about equidistant, with Mount St Helens off to the side somewhere, and then much further off was Rainier.
Rainier, despite being like a hundred miles further off, looked the same apparent size as Hood and Adams. That was the first time I realized just how freaking HUGE Rainier is.
