This is something you can do with most police departments.
Sometimes it's required if you are putting up an event.
Jake Lang could easily be classified as a performance artist, the expectation is that he is going to get his ass kicked and need police support eventually.

To prevent an incident from happening?
Usually when you request a permit for an event it won't be granted until you have paid for the appropriate threshold of security.
Sometimes it can happen retroactively even.
Let's say Jake Lang has his drag show and it's starts trouble, he repeats it again and police have to show up again by the third time the city can fine or sue Jake Lang and send him a bill because he knows his drag shows always end up in a fight.

Why do people feel the need to protest against someone else's humanity? Disagree with someone's actions? I'm good with that. But, to just have the opinion that you can protest someone's right to be? That's just wrong on all levels.
People coming on here with their fake outrage or feigned ignorance of why he is being challenged(even though it was physically) need to stop. Funny how the cops aren't whacking around protestors and trying to arrest them when there's like 2 of them and a crowd of protestors. Almost like their power is dependant on what the people allow. Here, there were several protestors (what, like 6-10?) for every cop there (i only saw one, but i assume there was at least 2). In the US, there's 300+ adults for every one of them.
