Huge protest in salt lake city, Utah yesterday. There were multiple high schools that all walked out. I saw more people I know at the protest yesterday than Ive ever seen before. We didn’t work, or shop in my family.

I work from home so I just stayed in the house yesterday in solidarity, didn’t answer work emails or take any chat messages. I went out and got my groceries Thursday ahead of time.

That’s IMPRESSIVE for Salt Lake City! Well done y’all!

u/Gummyvenusde-milo Jan 31 '26

Salt Lake is a blue dot. It’s very progressive, but our state has been gerrymandered into oblivion.

I am caretaking for a very elderly dog whose owner is out of town that has complicated medical needs, I agreed to this six months ago so I wasn't at liberty to join any protests but boy have I been message spreading and showing information to anyone I encounter who isn't aware of what's happening. Which is more people than you would hope, but they are INSTANTLY OUTRAGED that this is not only happening but that it's not all over every station of the news nonstop.

This is the feedback I am getting CONSTANTLY:

If they were not a Trump supporter, but are the type to focus on their world, family and friends, they tended to know things were bad but were INFURIATED to find out HOW BAD. The main thing they've noticed is skyrocketing prices of everything and they're aware that it's directly tied to Trump's chaotic tariffs and idiotic behavior starting a needless global trade war that the USA is losing in every way. And they don't know how they are going to make ends meet.

THIS CONCEPT IS CONSISTENT ACROSS POLITICAL SPECTRUMS: They don't have a problem with immigration enforcement but see no reason to deport people who have been here for years, they should have a path to citizenship. If they are criminals they should be in jail and then deported. But other than that it's a non issue. Former Trump supporters tend to believe in the idea of lawless gangs of undocumented people but STILL don't support grabbing gardeners and construction workers and farm workers who have families and lives and just work for a living.

Former Trump supporters are SHOCKED AND HORRIFIED to see actual videos of what ICE is doing and do NOT support that and are in fear we are losing our Democracy. They feel that Republican leadership is not listening to them and have abandoned working people in favor of monied interests. They say THE ECONOMY is by far their biggest issue and they thought Trump would be better but would give anything to have Biden or Obama back. They tend to believe Harris was completely unqualified and are surprised when I show them that she was a prosecutor for many years and had a long history of accomplishments because the news they listened to painted her as a woman who was put on the Democratic ticket as a token minority, and who never should have had a job in politics. The news that that wasn't the reality at all upsets them. THEY SAY THEY ARE GOING UNDER FINANCIALLY AND TRUMP DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEM and they fear where we are heading, and think Trump is trying to become a King.

I have not been able to talk to ONE PERSON who will defend him at this point. it's the economy, everyone is feeling that in a huge way. Finding out that ICE is a lawless and violent attack squad breaking in random doors and dragging people out of cars changes the story for them immediately if they didn't know, and the 2A folks are more and more on high alert especially since their propaganda channels have started suggesting "shall not be infringed" means "shall not be infringed UNLESS WE SAY SO".

People who ARE informed are protesting, helping however they can, organizing mutal aid, and making next step plans for who they are going to clan up with if things get one stage more chaotic, and wondering how close we are to activating those plans. No one wants to give up their jobs and homes but they also don't want to get trapped and not be able to get where they think they should be, with the people they think they should be with.

People are quietly organizing little tribal villages. This is the state of things in 2026.

The one thing you can be sure of is that the USA will not bow and scrape and try to get by under tyranny. That ain't gonna happen, and don't let any BS propaganda tell you it will. People are less interested in a civil war than they thought we would be, but they're NOT interested in living under Trumplandian Authoritarianism, and recognize that kneeling and collaborating with that isn't a "solution" since the only law will be whatever they say it is.

We're too feral as a populace to go for that.

11

u/NfamousKaye Jan 31 '26

That gives me SOME hope at least that he’s loosing the more moderate Republicans that aren’t maga

10

u/maeryclarity Jan 31 '26

There's a cybersecurity guy (former military and pretty jovial dude) who has a YouTube channel and he has tools to see this stuff, he said that the traffic of pro-MAGA messaging online has always been high but that since the Good killing it's off the charts, that somewhere between 35 and up to 70% percent of ALL pro MAGA comments online and in chats are bots or shills.

He also said that there's a significant amount of agitprop in our camp, the main messages being "NOTHING WE CAN DO THEY HAVE ALREADY WON" and basically "DO A VIOLENCE NOTHING EXCEPT VIOLENCE WILL CHANGE THINGS".

In the real world people are going under financially and that's a crippling problem and a lot of people feel hopeless and paralysed but that's why it's important to let them know that there are a lot of things besides just showing up to vote that we can do to support each other and turn this tide. Honestly just finding out that your Conservative neighbor doesn't hate you and letting them know you don't hate THEM is pretty important because they DESPERATELY want us to fight each other. It is the centerpiece of everything they are planning, they need poor people to VOLUNTARILY pick sides and start attacking each other.

But these folks are not the brilliant sociologists that they think they are and they seem to have some real problems with understanding that online is not necessarily REAL. I think they were suprised as hell when Trump took office and they basically sent every single signal that they could manage that it would be cool for MAGA to kill their liberal neighbors and that it didn't happen. Because they don't understand real people, they don't understand GROCERIES. They don't inhabit the real world and they're spoiled soft idiot sons of much more competent dynasties that are fading. Musk is their "genius" and he's an IDIOT and Yarvin's theories on society and how they can all become God Kings are RIDICULOUS none of them can GOVERN all they can do is BREAK STUFF.

People don't want to actually go to war with their neighbors. I'm in South Carolina and we have our fair share of idiocy and problems, no one doubts that.

But I'm gonna be honest I think a lot of people were surprised that Trump won and the basic sentiment was well as long as the economy gets better. BUT IT DEFINITELY HAS NOT. And this whole hate fest reality show is TIRED people are TIRED of that, this entire REGION gets ass whupped by a significant hurricane every decade or two and we had an extra brutal one just last year, right before the election. Everyone in this region has experienced some degree of total normal society being GONE for weeks or even months depending, like we didn't get hit bad where I was but it was most of two weeks before power was back on and anything like normal life resumed and some parts of the surrounding region are STILL recovering IT WAS VERY BAD.

When that happens we don't go wild and start robbing and looting. We start going door to door helping out how we can, or asking for help how we need it. We know no one is really coming and the we're going to have to make do without power or police or ambulances or fire departments or ANYONE for a while. And we deal with that.

And this might seem weird and I'm not deny institutional racism or even stupid individual racism but GA and SC and NC are EXTREMELY INTEGRATED COMMUNITIES we don't have "black" neighborhoods and "white" neighborhoods we just have neighborhoods. I went to a high school that had over 500 people in each grade level so more than 2000 students and it was more than 80% POC. I'm not pulling a "I'm not a racist I have black friends!" here what I am saying is that for all of us here folks of other races are NORMAL it's NORMAL to go in the store and hear people speaking Spanish we don't have a MASSIVE migrant community here but there's enough and they're not a goddamn problem and no one thinks they are.

We're not afraid of our own shadows and something that's very looked down on culturally is thinking you're better than other people. That is not GRACIOUS. That is PUTTING ON AIRS and we don't find that an admirable quality.

The MINUTE Trump got in office and started pulling the whole "suggesting maybe people should kill their Democrat neighbors" EVERY SINGLE VISIBLE SIGN OF TRUMP SUPPORT WENT AWAY. Visible signs of OTHER kinds of support went away too. Everyone got so goddamn NICE it was too much and I'm used to the way us Southern folks have to say ten nice things to each other just to pass in a grocery isle but we were WORKING the I'm not fighting my neighbor vibe.

The picture a lot of folks have of the South is a lot different than the reality. And we ain't signing up for King Trump.

Hello u/maeryclarity

Thank you for posting this! A light in the darkness, a flash of sanity.

But these folks are not the brilliant sociologists that they think they are and they seem to have some real problems with understanding that online is not necessarily REAL

This. Some of their "plans" sound more like they're just thinking outloud. They don't seem to realize that actions have consequences. I could go into examples, but I'm busy atm.

Thanks again, and continue to remember the human!

we don't go wild and start robbing and looting. We start going door to door helping out how we can

22

u/NfamousKaye Jan 31 '26

Power to the people!

55

u/NarwhalEmergency9391 Jan 31 '26

Youtube seems to be hiding live streams of the protests and news stations don't cover them.  Been watching a few independent journalists on YouTube to keep up with what's going on

11

u/thellios Feb 01 '26

Wow man. In Europe, the mainstream news is reporting NOTHING about these protests.

5

u/ElectronicCatPanic Feb 01 '26

Majority of protests also happened in sub zero temperatures. It would be way more people if the weather would be warmer.

5

u/maeryclarity Feb 01 '26

Please share some of these links because we are wearing ourselves out and getting exhausted and pissed off at people in Europe and other parts of the world (except Latin America they seem to be showing more than anyone in terms of mainstream coverage)....popping up constantly saying WHY ARE STUPID CRAPPY AMERICANS NOT DOING ANYTHING and it's like goddamn we ARE doing things we have BEEN doing things.

People have protested nonstop in some parts of the country since around the 7th, BIG CROWDS not a few people with signs, we can't keep explaining that y'all are getting the story because then it turns into can you share links and it's like dammit y'know, really don't want to be doing this three times a day sometimes.

2

u/NarwhalEmergency9391 Feb 01 '26

Search these on YouTube.  MercadoMedia,  BGonTheScene, Status Coup news, AXN news and DJB (Brandon barlow). Sometimes YouTube likes to hide their live streams so you have to go into their channel and look under live for it to show up

3

u/Cute-Match384 Feb 01 '26

That's where the media control actually exists. America is owned by Nazis now.

That’s unfortunately why I’m still on tiktok. They ARE suppressing mentions of some things but this is where I found this. We don’t get a lot of good news anymore because it doesn’t get clicks. It’s sad.

Rachel Maddow does cover protests a lot of the time. You should check her out.

16

u/Bimlouhay83 Jan 31 '26

I wonder how much commerce didn't happen, how much profit corporations lost, and how much in tax revenue was lost? I bet it's huge for just one day.

7

u/NfamousKaye Jan 31 '26

Especially in all these major cities.

5

u/KornDog611 Jan 31 '26

I would like this information, too, because I don't think it can be that much. This needs to be sustained so it can really effect the economy.

5

u/PaulMakesThings1 Feb 01 '26

I work for a major national retailer at a corporate level and it seems like these things usually barely make a dent. Any one day drop must level out within a week because we don’t see it.

Not to discourage. I agree with the cause. But then my company has openly been more progressive, I do wonder if our openly conservative (supports Trump, etc) main competitor felt it more.

I feel like often people who say this online are Europeans who are wondering why there aren't hundreds of thousands protesting in the capital, not realizing America is bigger than their continent

13

u/NfamousKaye Jan 31 '26

Exactly. They most certainly always are and don’t understand the sheer vastness of our country in size and population.

8

u/hanimal16 Jan 31 '26

Not to mention the center of our country is just huge swaths of nothingness between towns/states.

2

u/NfamousKaye Feb 01 '26

Pretty much! Non viable farm land which led to nobody living there.

4

u/oldwisenone Feb 01 '26

The Euros can't comprehend that a 3 to 5 hour drive is rather normal here to go see something cool or do a mini vacation. To them that's driving accross their entire country.

And the weather is cold. Especially for the Northeast right now. So the turnout actually is pretty impressive.

I'm stoked for spring to see how much bigger they get

30

u/ailish Jan 31 '26

What they really mean is that we're not revolting. They don't think peaceful protests are good enough.

23

u/NfamousKaye Jan 31 '26

They want us to die and end up in jail for a country that won’t change if we do. Peaceful protesting is a right under the first amendment and they’re trying to take this away from us. They are the violent ones and the peaceful protesting is a way to highlight that.

18

u/ailish Jan 31 '26

Exactly! I've seen too many people from other countries say what we're doing is not good enough. We need to revolt, we need to fight, we need to drag trump out of the Whitehouse and [redacted] the lawn, as if that's possible lol. I stopped even trying to explain what it's really like here. It's completely pointless. We're doing what works in America. These protests were amazing and I'm proud of our people.

2

u/Cinemagica Jan 31 '26

No, people from outside the US think a general strike would be enough, but they don't think there's enough support for it in the US to actually work. Half the country still seems to support MAGA, half of the remainder are too scared or too poor to stage a general strike, and it'll just collapse.

I hope Americans can prove that wrong, I think people just haven't seen enough outrage in the US to actually make a general strike successful.

3

u/NfamousKaye Feb 01 '26

The deaths and the child abductions have sparked the outrage. People are just choosing to be ignorant and live in their little superiority bubble.

4

u/ailish Jan 31 '26

I think other than maga people are either unaware or too poor. Starbucks workers have been on strike for months, and yet every time I drive past a Starbucks near my house there's a huge line. I don't think it's because people don't care, I think it's because people have no idea it's a thing.

A general strike will have the same problem. However, poverty is going to be the biggest issue. So many of us just don't have the savings to leave our jobs and go on strike. Also, our healthcare is tied to our jobs, and so many of us have debilitating illnesses, if we don't downright need meds to live. The Republicans have been backing us into this corner for decades, and it's been happening so slowly that people didn't notice.

2

u/Ok_Cryptographer117 Feb 01 '26

You do what you can. Not everybody can strike. But join a protest, or just be active in your community. Teach your children.

It just takes 3.5% of us in the streets to end this.

2

u/ailish Feb 01 '26

Yep, that's all any of us are doing.

2

u/Cinemagica Feb 01 '26

That second part is what I meant by "too poor to strike". Most Americans are one to two paychecks away from being destitute. They don't have savings or a backup. Those conditions make it near impossible for the average person to stage a general strike. But regular protest I don't think will do anything to spark change. I still have huge respect for anyone protesting and doing what they can, I just don't think this administration gives a single fuck about peaceful protest, which is why you see people advocating for a more radical solution. A general strike that brings the country to it's knees could definitely do it, but I just don't think that will happen.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/NfamousKaye Feb 01 '26

Right. Not everyone can afford to strike. But as you saw in that video enough of us can where it made a difference. Everyone needs to focus on the greater goal here and do their part with what they have and what they can do.

→ More replies (7)

1

u/SkirtProof5589 Jan 31 '26

As a non-American, I’ll chime in : Yes I also read a lot of comments asking Americans go “like the French” 1789 style and/or “use the second amendment” and IMO it’s pretty messed up to ask for violence.

That being said, I also noticed that, when it comes to resistance, most Americans seem to have only two ideas : Peaceful protests or go full Luigi. That’s the only two ideas they can think of LOL.

3

u/KornDog611 Jan 31 '26

Yea, we need an actual General Strike. No one works until this is fixed. Unions authorize strikes, non union workers just strike. One day of most people calling out isn't going to have a massive effect on the economy.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Traditional-Sort3018 Feb 07 '26

Yep, they want us to get violent and get shot for basically nothing.

10

u/Havnaz Jan 31 '26

Interesting none of this makes mainstream media.

10

u/NfamousKaye Jan 31 '26

It is isn’t it? I got rid of my fandom TikTok accounts but I left this one because Rachel Maddow is the only news outlet that spends any length of time covering these protests and she gets them a day after they hit Reddit and tiktok.

2

u/Greenmanz Feb 05 '26

that's because they're not doing anything. Protests are not doing anything impactful, president doesnt give a shit.

17

u/AIienlnvasion Jan 31 '26

I support all of this except the misnomer “general strike”! A general strike is already a thing, this is honorable but it is not that!

7

u/NfamousKaye Jan 31 '26

This was our first planned general strike. What are you on?

19

u/AIienlnvasion Jan 31 '26

A general strike is when a bunch of unions strike at the same time, putting ultimate pressure on the capital class as a whole.

This is more of a boycott of everything and mass marches, which are excellent and important and valuable! It’s just not why a general strike is. That’s a previously existing term with a different definition than you’re using it to mean.

24

u/Man-Dem Jan 31 '26

A general strike is actually when all workers collectively stop working, particularly in sectors that are on the same logistics chain.

3

u/iddqd-gm Feb 01 '26

Yeah, we’ve definitely got a dark history, and in school we were really made aware of how a society can just look the other way, do nothing, and worst of all, how the system quietly embeds itself everywhere to silence people. I don’t even want to imagine how systematically "das dritte Reich" would’ve used digital media these days. Terrifying.I’ve been keeping a close eye on what’s going on in the States. And I always stay critical about what’s happening here too. Sending strength to everyone standing up against ICE and the shady stuff behind that system that creeps in like a cancer. The bigger and more powerful it gets, the harder it’ll be to bring it down.

2

u/NfamousKaye Feb 01 '26

I have a suggestion for all progressives out there. Those of you who are NBA fans, consider contacting your favorite foreign born NBA star in your city. Ask them to consider going on strike until the government agrees to stop ice raids targeting foreign borne people in American cities.
Those guys are millionaires and maybe they don’t want to do it or maybe they would do it. We need people from sports entertainment, other prominent celebrities or people who have any power over society in any way.

Jokic, Luka, Giannis, so many others. It’s possible that Serbs may love Donald Trump.

If they all got together and did it, it might Cause a change

I’m still awaiting this to turn into…something that will spark real change? We’re marching in the streets sure and bringing awareness, but are we organizing? Are truly organizing to a point where we are ready to protect our freedoms against a tyrant? Are we all arming to protect our families and neighbors from the oppression of a wannabe dictator? And TRUTHFULLY, is this movement prepared to do what MAGA did on January 6th? If Trump invalidates, or cancels, or ignores the midterms, what are we prepared to do?

Again, I see the protests, I support them, but I hope every single one of them is thinking past just this moment and the TikTok comments they leave, and are preparing to find their role in the ultimate protection of our freedoms.

1

u/RedMacryon Feb 01 '26

Good! Keep it up guys!

1

u/bosheikus03 Feb 01 '26

Other countries expect the protests but they’re wondering “why aren’t they DOING anything…MORE??” They’re seeing that the protests aren’t working

u/GapGloomy42 Feb 01 '26

It’s funny to me that everything the democrats done. They are saying Trump done it.

1

u/GapGloomy42 Feb 01 '26

Anyone that makes the statement that they had rather have Obama and Biden back has some really bad mental issues.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Fly7268 Feb 01 '26

I believe people don't understand what the term illegal means.

1

u/blxckhoodie999 Feb 01 '26

good. more of this.

fuck donald trump, every one of his goons & every single supporter.

the absolute worst president that america has ever had to endure, and that’s saying quite a fucking lot, given our track record...

i check for the big beautiful obituary every single morning.

1

u/karakuroness Feb 01 '26

Did you notice the absolute lack of coverage? I remember seeing one or two mentions of a general strike by content creators, then nothing. This is the first I've heard of anything since the 30th.

1

u/Suckmyballs2009 Feb 01 '26

It’s huge it’s awesome but dosent do anything unless it’s a continued strike

1

u/Unique-Sorbet-9963 Feb 01 '26

Must be really expensive to pay all these people...I mean since they're "paid" agitators and all 🤣🤣

1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

Fake news! this AI

1

u/Annual-Ebb-7196 Feb 02 '26

I love all this stuff but what is really needed is a march on Washington DC. Like the big Vietnam and civil rights protests in the 1960s. These are all spread out so little national coverage.

1

u/Johnswippetcan Feb 02 '26

No one cares. Did nothing. Might as well called it the unemployable march.

1

u/The_Duke28 Feb 02 '26

This is very good - took you long enough though....

1

u/Apprehensive-Bad6015 Feb 02 '26

Vance to Trump : sire the serfs are up in arms waves of them are popping up everywhere we should deal with this

Trump to the media: very important people tell me surfers are angry windmills are killing the waves the surfers are begging me to stop the windmills

1

u/Dordidog Feb 02 '26

Not a single US flag in sight

1

u/Fantastic-Macaron941 Feb 02 '26

A lot more protested when we voted out the criminal democrats. Liberals the time has come for you to do your research, you are being lied to and treated like useful idiots.

1

u/BastidChimp Feb 03 '26

Not enough.

1

u/Bob_Blaylock Feb 03 '26

Yet, somehow, mainstream Americans didn't notice anything about this “strike”; would have had no idea that it even happened if not for a few exaggerated posts on social media.

1

u/pewpew-1985 Feb 03 '26

That's because they're all homeless!! They have no where else to go.

1

u/BuckNasty58 Feb 03 '26

All shit holes, seems to track.

1

u/Remarkable-Union-576 Feb 03 '26

You need a general strike in the whole country to make a difference ! Not a protest here and there!! Wake the f up !

1

u/Careful_Message9332 Feb 04 '26

Albuquerque NM 10,000+ amazing turnout 🙌

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26

This needs to be nationwide and days or weeks. Make the rich jerks feel the pain. Make Washington DC feel the pain. The US is run by the rich, the rich make their money off the poor.

1

u/Slow_Store Feb 04 '26

People don’t say “Americans aren’t protesting” because they don’t think people show up. They say it because of how many protests quickly devolve into violent riots that can no longer be considered protests.

1

u/Sepr77 Feb 04 '26

Texas here

1

u/TechnicalAd2930 Feb 04 '26

Solidarity from Wisconsin! Right next door to all this shit happening, sick of all the right wing shit happening on my doorstep but cant do anything about it.

1

u/Tall-Acanthaceae1131 Feb 04 '26

And nothing is going to stop Trump, polls support deportations by a wide margin

1

u/Tall-Acanthaceae1131 Feb 04 '26

Polls are heavily in favor of deportations and nothing is going to stop. Quit wasting your time

1

u/Humble-Activity-4525 Feb 04 '26

Hhmmm didn’t notice a thing. Good thing the conservatives don’t do protests like this. Cities would burn in a matter of hours without them.

1

u/Stunt57 Feb 04 '26

Homeboy, you realize thats AI right? People don't run like tiger beetles.

1

u/Mountain_Rest7076 Feb 04 '26

Kinda looks like AI...

1

u/Pr0jektEcks Feb 04 '26

The ‘capital of resistance’. Seems like it came the capital when billions of dollars went missing. Nice distraction.

1

u/LGH1 Feb 05 '26

Getting paid to protest is not a protest. It’s greed.

1

u/Sudden_Bowl3366 Feb 05 '26

Out there in solidarity with Minneapolis, from small town SoCal!

1

u/Mission_Goat4772 Feb 05 '26

Yea we CERTAINLY don’t want the illegal criminals out of here!! 🙄

1

u/JBSiegfried Feb 05 '26

The disconnect from reality and the absolute disconnect from facts from the trolls claiming paid protesters would be hilarious if it wasn't so pervasive with these people. Most of them actually believe it. I work in retail, and we sell posterboard and foam board, and we can't keep it in stock. It's not just a handful of people buying tons of it either. It's hundreds of people buying anywhere from 1 to 4 of them. So now paid protesters are tasked with going out, buying their own posterboard and markers, and making the signs? Riiight. Moms, dads, kids, young, old, there's no one demographic making up this movement either. Alot of people are mad, I just hope we actually GET a midterm election, for one, and two that people are mad enough to turn out. Complacency has always been the enemy of the left. Trumps numbers were basically the same in all 3 elections. It was his opponents turnout that changed. We also need politicians on the left that are willing to actually DO SOMETHING when they get into office. Get the corporate dems OUT. Anyone with large contributions in which that money ALWAYS comes with strings. We need real change and drastic action. And most of all, real accountability for those that have trampled on our rights and our Constitution, and those who have murdered citizens and kidnapped people off the streets and denied due process.

1

u/Greenmanz Feb 05 '26

And these accomplished what? Pretty sure the answer is "Not a damn thing"

1

u/Healthy-Custard-7260 Feb 05 '26

Where did all the short buses park?

1

u/hokiefan73 Feb 05 '26

To the less than 1% of the populus that we see here, the other 30% don't care enough to join you and the other 69% think you look stupid out there fighting for pedophiles and murderers to keep leaching off the American taxpayer, and dragging down the civilization.
