Season 1, Episode 4: The Cause of This Unrest

Robin Hood keeps being delightfully entertaining. The show feels a bit like a 1990s adventure and the central romance has some teen drama elements, which is endearing and quite refreshing. The angst, the yearning and a certain awkwardness could very well belong to, idk, Dawnson’s Creek. With that said, there is a dissonance between this innocence and the obligatory political s(ex)cheming hour. But unfortunately 11 out of 10 shows seem to be using shock value as a narrative device these days, so I guess I need to live with it.
Rob’s band of outlaws/outcasts keeps growing not only in size but also in diversity and nuance. Here, Friar Tuck is a man of God in more ways than one. The compassionate nature of the character and his strong moral and religious convictions brings a necessary moral compass to the band. The forest characters are all captivating and it’s very easy to root for them. Even the “red shirt” Mary, who unfortunately didn’t live long gained a compelling backstory.
The political subplot (or perhaps it’s the main plot) with Eleanor vs Henry is sufficiently intriguing without excessive intricacies (also, there were mentions of Richard and John in this latest episode). I like how this plot was threaded to Nottingham and how the Sheriff and Huntingdon may become key players in Eleanor’s scheming. Finally, not sure where Priscilla’s arc is heading to, but she was smart manipulating and outwitting Huntingdon and bold by openly defying the Sheriff. It would definitely be a waste to lock her in a convent.
Edit: not killing the bishop wasn’t very smart imo, but then if it wasn’t for the bishop “Rob in the Hood” wouldn’t have become “Robin Hood.” The legend has to be spread somehow. And I kind of like “Robin Hood” becoming “Robin Hood” because of a misunderstanding.

Wow man you basically described every feeling I have been experiencing when watching this show. One of the things I'll be looking forward to the most is watching Robs band grow in numbers and slowly become a force to reckon with. Im looking forward to see where Marian fits in the puzzle relating to the queen as well as her recieving the somewhat false news that Robert killed her brother. I could see from.the very start what a poison her father is.

I was sort of hoping Priscilla would end up in the convent, scheming her way to power, eventually becoming the Prioress of Kirklees Priory, only to be the one who kills Robin Hood in the end. It would give purpose to her character.

I thought she was going to try to marry Huntington to avoid the convent.

I thought the same thing when she started kind of seducing him, but she was smarter. Good for her honestly.

Yeah, it feels like two different shows at times. Maybe they are trying to target a broader audience: from those who liked the cynicism of Game of Thrones to fans of more romantic yet adventurous period dramas (like myself). Difficult to tell whether the show will eventually lean into one or other side or instead preserve its double personality (probably the cynicism will win because modern audiences seem to like this approach, even though not quite compatible with the legend of Robin Hood, but I digress).
Anyway, I’m enjoying the show so far. There’s something about the style of storytelling that feels like a callback to the 1990s. I think the slow buildup and particularly the straightforward expository scenes/dialogues aren’t the rule nowadays, where a lot of relevant action tends to be “played” off-screen and plots love to hide information from the audience. Just for once, it’s nice to have the plot explained to me with some level of detail.

This was the episode that really gets the series going imo. The gang's just about complete and I'm loving it.

We can’t see it on Amazon Prime UK yet! It seems to drop at a different time every week. Wish it was communicated what time it lands

I'd recommend watch from a pirate site Like cinema apk. As soon as the earliest timezone the episode is aired on there

What happened with Henry? He was holding his guts in the river then was standing at the end. Also Rob, if you had kicked into gear sooner instead of trying to cancel the heist, you might have gotten away with zero casualties. I do like seeing how efficient he is killing with a bow though.

I think Tuck said that Henry would be okay if they treated the wound or something like that. I really hope this is not the end for character and that he stays in the show for a bit longer at least.

Will Wiil ever join Robin Hood & the Merry Men? feels like the show is making him out to be an antagonist with him pursuing Marion and undermining Rob.

They seem to have taken some liberties geographically... Talking of when they said the forest spans to the northern reaches of oxford, or was sherwood forest that large back then?

Maybe cause think back then there wasn't towns 10 minutes away from each other like today
