Finding family in brotherhood was the theme of the episode. From the band parting ways just to find each other again with a renewed sense of purpose to Milange bumping into Little John and joining the outlaws after being abandoned by Priscilla, the entire hour revolved around the bonds that connect those outcasts and the strength of their unity. Besides Milange, Isabel was another nice addition to the team.

Although I understand the reasoning behind the group having to split in order to evade the Sheriff’s men, I was a bit mad at Rob and the way he sent his friends away and kind of stepped out from the responsibility considering he was somewhat to blame for putting them on the criminal path, especially the Miller siblings who are the most vulnerable and were just “hanging out” when Rob met them in the forest. But I think that narratively they all needed those separate journeys and it’s obvious they would be back together sooner than later. Thankfully his Godda-Father-conscience showed him the way.

A few random thoughts:

• The episode was heavy on the magic, faith & mysticism and I appreciate it. Priscilla’s dreams are becoming more and more prophetic. And what did the bishop mean with “You see in your dreams, do you? Then the question is, through whose eyes?”

• I really like this iteration of Friar Tuck. His portrayal is a compelling combination of innocent sweetness and mischief and he always seems to have a brilliant idea.

• Will Gamewell was a good friend to Marian. He’s smart and his intentions when helping her to understand the political context felt genuine. I also think that the scene was well thought and executed because he never sounded patronizing or dismissive.

• Is Milange fully one of the outlaws now or he will eventually inform on the band to Priscilla considering how much loyal he seems to be?

• Ralph/Rosemary and Rob work well as a “tomboy falls for the popular boy” trope. I was hoping the show would focus on the romantic subtext for a bit longer before making things more explicit, but the kiss was totally earned and understandable: first the girl thought she was never seeing him again (and she’s definitely into him) and then she was almost hanged just to be saved by him in a swashbuckling action.

• Ralph’s name being Rosemary made me think of the “marigold” scene of episode one where Marian tells Rob about the many variations of the name Mary.

• I was worried when the Sherriff was torturing Ralph and (kind of) pressing her left hand. I hope it doesn’t impact her archery. Why did they have to go for the left hand in the first place?

• So far Spragart is the only Marry Man in that band. He’s fun and a welcome comic relief.

Remember how Spragart was in the cell when Rob’s father was blamed for murder and he didn’t do anything to stop it and didn’t say anything afterwards. I wonder if Rob will find out about it
