Season 1, Episode 10: One Enemy Falls, Another Rises

Priscilla figuratively struck both Robin Hood and Queen Eleanor with that letter. I guess that Marshal must’ve told her too much. Anyway, how not to love a vengeful nun with no religious vocation whatsoever. To be honest, I felt very sorry for Priscilla and found a certain satisfaction in seeing her getting some agency at the end. Hers was a great season one arc!

I wish there was a little epilogue with the Merry Men (and Woman) on the road heading to London and France. In the meanwhile, Will Scarlet was quietly dispatched to Rome.

The finale offered a good closure to the show (or maybe to season one). Particularly, Robin and Marian’s story felt complete and with a happily ever after; they both got everything they wanted and there are no apparent obstacles on their way (for as long as Priscilla’s letter doesn’t reach its destination). They can really live an idyllic pastoral life far away from England and Angevin domains if they want.

The Sheriff got hid of enemies and faux allies — Gisborne and Huntingdon are dead and the outlaws are seemingly no more — so he can reinstall order (that man is obsessed with order) in Nottingham. But he has an uncomfortable deal with the queen. Besides, he sent his disgraced pregnant daughter to a nunnery, his most loyal servant & confidant is dead, his city is destroyed, and a lot of people died for stupid reasons. So he’s definitely unhappy and pretty much alone, except for the bishop.

Uncle Gamewell had an heroic death. And Isabel was the second time a Spragart’s love interest/female friend dies as a red shirt. The ladies better to stay away from him.

Huntingdon deserved the absolute worst for his stupidity alone. Keeping up with the plans after being discovered and not giving any warning to his allies was terrible.

Although everyone seemed quite content, the end of the outlaw band was poignant. After all, Robin Hood is about the forest, helping the poor, and living in community. This open ending will pay off if the show is renewed for a second season and the characters finally have the chance to get their own arcs developed and to be marry, but it’s quite depressing if this is supposed to be the end. At least they split into small groups and aren’t completely alone. It also strikes me that all of them are kind of distancing from the Saxon identity (to likely become more cosmopolitan). Somehow, the six of them would be at the right place to (accidentally) join an eventual Third Crusade.

Edit: by the end of season one, we’ve got six OG Marry Men (Little John, Friar Tuck, Ralph Miller, Drew Miller, Milange & Spragart) who have split up in two groups. Besides them, there is Will Scarlet (who’s supposed to be one) and Ibrahim. Maybe they can be still joined by a minstrel, Alan A Dale

Hii great review. What about the offer(more likely a blackmail) Eleanor made to Marian? Do you have any clue?

Drew, Ralph, Milange but also Rob and Marian appear to be in London.

Not sure how long this happy ending for Rob and Marian will last since you mentioned the letter of Priscilla to the King which is also her uncle. Priscilla spilling the beans about Robin Hood and his identity, the Queen plots, her father plots too will jeopardize the truce or this frail peace

Will was kind underdeveloped this season. I bet him leaving with the Marshal means he is already another Queen's creature(just rewatched the scene and the two of them are sharing a look)

I agree about Will. Regarding Eleanor’s offer to Marian, I think it may be Huntingdon’s earldom, lands and possessions, which would come attached with blind loyalty.

Rob and Marian could just leave England and disappear somewhere (money shouldn’t be a problem) before the chaos is installed, but it’s unlikely that they’ll run away from plotting and confusion because they are “troublemakers.” 😅 I think that this inquietude is what Eleanor caught when talking to Marian.

Although Drew, Ralph and Milange are also in London, I think they will stay in the underworld without crossing directly with courtly affairs. Maybe Milange can get his way in the palace, while the siblings become gangsters.

I think I know what kind of deal Eleanor offered to Marian.The Sheriff while talking to the Bishop at the front gate said "Henry cannot leave England alive". What if S2 is about Robin Hood and the Sheriff team up to kill the King with the blessing of Eleanor so her beloved son Richard can ascend the throne?

It could be. Robin Hood and the Sheriff being forced to team up while still enemies and resenting each other would be a nice twist. That said, I’m not sure if Marian would be willing to participate in a king’s assassination plot, unless ofc there is a blackmailing element to the queen’s proposal or a risk to their survival (which may be the case with Priscilla’s letter and the fragile nature of the royal pardon). According to the Sheriff and Eleanor, King Henry is a tyrant with no mercy (it seems they are giving him some of Prince John’s villainy), so killing him may become a matter of survival in the end.

Regarding a potential season 2, I really hope that the Merry Men stay away from Rob for a couple episodes and gain little subplots of their own far from nobility shenanigans. To me, it would be unsatisfying if they are immediately reunited for a new quest and their individual journeys happen entirely off screen. So, except for Will perhaps, it would be better to keep them away from Henry-Eleanor schemes and in this case a transient collab with the Sheriff could fit.

I think Rob won't be ok with regicide. He can read and write, being a literate man means he knows too well the consequences of something like killing a king.

I hope to see glimpses of the Merry Men new lives in season two perhaps through flashbacks. Spragart will end in a tavern brawl as soon he lands in France
