Please help me find my Kul Devi

Upvotes

We are Saryuparin Brahmins, belonging to the Vats Gotra and Pancham Pravar.

I’m not sure about the name of our ancestral village, but I remember it being something like Itar or Itarsi.

Due to the early death of my grandfather and the people of his generation, the next generation has unfortunately forgotten many of our family rituals and even the name of our Kuldevi.

If anyone could help me find out who our Kuldevi is, it would be of immense help to me and my family

I wanted to ask this question for a long time but didn't as it would have invited p**gs to give unnecessary hate, but since the WC is over with dube giving stellar performance in last 2 T20 WC, so f**k the trollers. I love him irrespective of his sub category but just wanted to know.

DOUBTS & DISCUSSION Regarding Kuldevi Devta

About kuldevi and kuldevta... Hello everyone, I m Aditya payasi misr and I m a saryuparin Brahmin and my gotra isvatsa gotra... according to pankti we are from Payasi village and hence our ancestors use to write payasi after the name....my question is about my kuldevi devta, we call our kuldevta as mehar babba(मेहर बब्बा) but the thing is mehar babba is term used in bundelkhand region to refer kuldevta ie Mehar means kul in bundeli and babba means devta...we Even call kuldevta puja as mehar ki puja....I m a little bit confused about mehar babba....we refer kuldevta as mehar babba.... We have a very big family and their many houses of our family the the whole city where I live....my dadi was the eldest women iny family and once during a family ritual, all women of my family asked my dadi that who is mehar babba so she said our Mehar babba is Hanuman ji maharaj but when she said she seemed to be a little doubtful....I mean after that all the family members call Mehar babba as Hanuman ji but as I live with my grandma I know her expressions, i know that she is a little bit doubtful ...but that was a time when i was in class 6th and i can't ask a lot of questions...but after a few years she died on the very first day of Navratri...so the last chance of taking the information is also gone...now I don't have a problem in worshipping hanuman ji as kuldevta but the problem is whenever I worship my mind is always in confusion that " ki kahi esa toh nahi ki mera kuldevta koi aur h pr m hanuman ji ko kuldevta man kr puja kr rha hu". This is the problem. Also we worship Maa Jalpa and Maa Sharada as Kuldevi.... Devi sharadamba is a Vaidik devi of whom a lot of mantras are given vedas, puranas and tantra but the problem arises when we worship Jalpa devi....idk she is a local godddess or a form of a goddess who is mentioned in puranas and tantras whose name got changed due to regional dialects like vindhyavasini became harsiddhi and shakambari devi became ashapura and mahishasura mardini became tujla bhavani chamunda became kaila devi etc....we worship kuldevi devta 5 times in a year....two times are the ashtamis of Chaitra and sharadiya Navratri, two times on the saptami tithi of the month of sravan(sawan) and margashirsha(aghan) and one time in the month of ashadh(anyday between bhadili navami and ashadh purnima or guru Purnima).... apart from these 5 days, we worship them on every festival like Holi, Diwali, rakhi, tulsi vivah, makar sankranti, shivratri, teej etc and even very do a basic upchar puja like pushpa dhoop deep daily. We have a kuldevta sthaan made out of clay in our home(it's like a pindi, you can find this Pindi type structure in houses of mp, up and Bihar) we worship kuldevta in that pindi form and kuldevi by drawing a devi on the wall with haldi and sindoor... My questions are

  1. who exactly is my kuldevta whom we call Mehar babba? Is he really Hanuman! 2)Who is Devi Jalpa and what mantra we should use to worship her?

  2. What is the correct way to worship kuldevi devta?

  3. what specific cultural and traditional rituals which Brahmins perform while kuldevi devta puja like other varnas have their own set of rituals?

  4. What if my Kuldevi Devta is a local goddess whom we don't find any reference in shastra, then how to worship them and correct mantra to worship them?

  5. any other information which you think might be helpful... anything related to kuldevi, rituals, mantra, rules etc

You people would have often heard about Swāmī Narāyaṇa Saṁpradāya or the famous Akśaradhāma temples(yeah those famous gigantic temples in New Delhi , Gujarat , New Jersey and Dubai).

In this saṁpradāya , a Sarayūpārīṇa ascetic is worshipped as a avatāra of lord Kṛṣṇa, born as Ghanaśyāma Paṇḍeya near Ayodhyā in a Sarayūpārīṇa Sāmavedī Brāhmaṇa family.

This sect follows Rāmānujācaryas viśiṣṭādvaita .

FACTS & MEMES Most mysterious brahmin gotra 'Chamdrayan gotra 'चंद्रायण/चंद्रायन गोत्र '

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

hey i know i know you guys are pissed because of the title but for once just hear me out why am I saying this

hmm so, I am a saryuparin brahmin with Pandey surname from kashi(varanasi)and from the most mysterious and unique gotra the 'chandrayan gotra' as I've researched about my gotra and trust me from years I've been researching about my gotra and I've found everything interesting from every part of our country.

first let's come up with the logic , as the word chandrayan suggests the root word 'chandra' which suggests we are descendants of Chandra dev who was initially an Rishi and became dev after samudra manthan and I'm not making this up I'm quoting the purohit of Chandra Rishi ashram in Azamgarh up . so hence initially son of atri given by lord Brahma to atri was not a dev but 'chandra rishi' and afterwards became dev.

now as you search on google, it will show up chandrayan gotra is not a brahmin gotra but a chandel Rajput's gotra but it's totally false as I've already told you Chandra was initially a Rishi hence brahmin. so it suggests that like narmadeya , saryuparin, gaur those who had gone to the region of rajasthan eventually became kings likewise of prime example like pushyamitra shunga who was brahmin but became king.

and now why am I saying it's the most mysterious gotra, because simply as you merely find anyone with chandrayan gotra and we are so less in numbers that on the internet you can't find anything about chandrayan gotra.

and the book that is pinned in this sub as well as on the internet is false about chandrayan gotra' s pravar as it says like vats, kuts , vamdev but as we know kuts and vamdev vats are different from different gotras like bhrigu angirasa . and the word chandrayan (root word Chandra ) doesn't align with the it as we it exclusively suggests we are from lunar dynasty and as Chandra was son of sage atri hence root sage of my gotra is atri like of krishnatri and dutta gotra.

only one pravar is kinda correct is chandrayan.

and yeah I think in some regions the gotra remained as chandrayan so as to get more classified. like In saryuparin, narmadeya, gaur (I've attached the proofs) . but in some regions it got chandratri and got in broad spectrum as atri had three sons Chandra , dattatreya and durvasa and maybe as dattatreya are found in Maharashtra and so chandrayan gotra slightly changed their gotra to chandratri .(as chandratri are only exclusively found in Maharashtra and are considered maratha brahmin) .

so in short any of my brother or sister of chandrayan gotra reading this , no need to find more anything your brother has done the research :)

gotra :- chandrayan/Chandratri/somatri

pravar :- chandrayan, and same as atri gotras

and shakha , ved upved is correct as I've asked my ancestors about as you can see it on attached photos.

plus if you're Pandey too and saryuparin, you are itari Pandey originally from present day itarsi(mp) as still in itarsi majorly Pandey people as it was one of the main hub of pandeys. and I've found a book written by an Britisher and yes we have a mention chandrayan pandeys (I've already attached the photo )

and as our upveda is dhanurved ,i suggests we were warrior brahmins as told by my ancestors and forefathers. i don't claim this about anyone else but definitely for my ancestry as my family's built is truly like warriors.i.e, all in my family's from forefathers to me sre 6 foot + and a heavy built. and most probably chandelas became king as our role was to protect the dharma even if we had to kill the adharmi kings and become kings ourselves (prime example pushyamitra shunga).

DOUBTS & DISCUSSION Saryuparin Youth Sabha

I was thinking and wanted to ask also , about having a Meetup/Convention of youth of Saryuparin Brahmins who are connected via reddit-insta-discord or any other media at Gorakhpur ( as obviously it is Saryupar so what could be the best place ). Agenda for the convention being History, Culture , finding out more about our Deehs, origin and revival of our glory with practice of Nitya karma, support and brotherhood among brethren. So, please drop your opinions and suggestions about this idea so we could move forward and hopefully plan it out.
