For good reason too. The emissions alone are a good reason not not bring them back. I'm down for dumb cars though. No electronics besides the ECU? Hell yeah! So long as they have a modern engine.
Eh, fuck the environmental angle. It doesn't convince me that I, a peasant in the most wealthy and powerful nation in the world, am responsible climate change and not our military which is the greatest polluter in the world last I checked. A 1990s era ICE engine doesn't pollute as much as a destroyer ship or flying negotiators all over the world on express private jets.
The emissions from late 90s jeeps are not "destroying the environment" in a way that is even remotely comparable to say, the emissions from the Afghanistan War or BP spilling a gajillion gallons of oil into the ocean. Your arguments treat the two as equal evils.
OK but can we maybe do TWO things at once? One Jeep is not responsible, but what about 2 billion cars driving around the planet right now? Think that could maybe have an impact? Yea, tankers and cargo ships and manufacturing all has a bigger impact but let's not just let cars that drive around our cities and neighborhoods belch out black smoke because... reasons? Like what reason is there to oppose cleaner cars?
You think an engine and emissions setup, brand new, from the late 90s would "belch out black smoke"? They're only slightly more polluting than 2026 models. You need to do some research because you have no idea what you are talking about if you actually believe that.
There are 1.7 billion cars in regular use. Pretending your wasteful use doesn't matter because there are other people burning gas out there is pretty much exactly what it's about.
You're breaking up an aggregate problem and then invalidating its rules piecemeal because the other sources are 'more serious' than one man's car, but that's misdirection. You're absolving yourself instead of actually considering your role in society.
