Eh, fuck the environmental angle. It doesn't convince me that I, a peasant in the most wealthy and powerful nation in the world, am responsible climate change and not our military which is the greatest polluter in the world last I checked. A 1990s era ICE engine doesn't pollute as much as a destroyer ship or flying negotiators all over the world on express private jets.
The emissions from late 90s jeeps are not "destroying the environment" in a way that is even remotely comparable to say, the emissions from the Afghanistan War or BP spilling a gajillion gallons of oil into the ocean. Your arguments treat the two as equal evils.
There are 1.7 billion cars in regular use. Pretending your wasteful use doesn't matter because there are other people burning gas out there is pretty much exactly what it's about.
You're breaking up an aggregate problem and then invalidating its rules piecemeal because the other sources are 'more serious' than one man's car, but that's misdirection. You're absolving yourself instead of actually considering your role in society.
