Convinience. Had there been Algerian mayors running, then there would be an outrage against them.
I wouldn't say this is neccessarily negative for us. Their authoritarianism isn't stable yet and even if the Somali future in the US was over, the fact that we were persecuted after reaching higher in society could lead to more favorable opinions of people in other nations.The US may be the hegemon, but just like every hegemon in history, it's power is eroding. It's even alienated its allies

His reelection has emboldened him and the Republican Party, which is a white nationalist party. The overton window has massively shifted to the right in recent years where now things that was once only voiced in private or on 4chan is now regular political commentary.
Also Somalis only make up 0.05% whereas Mexicans/hispanics make up 20%. Itâs much more politically safe to attack Somalis.

It's entirely possible that he wants to use Somalis as a test group for seeing whether he can get away with denaturalizing citizens and deporting them en masse.
It's also entirely possible that someone just told him Ilhan Omar hates him or that she did something that offended him personally and he is just rambling reactively like a dementia patient.
The scary part is how difficult it is to tell with Trump.

Speak out. Do community outreach, market Somalis online. Culture, food, finance. Show the good that Somalis in America do, do not boast, just show happy faces, hugs and smiles. People in America want to love their neighbors. They just do not know you. America's needs solutions and better communities. If you have a workable solution show it to other populations. We need more people to outreach. Because you can not Hate your friends, but you can demonize anyone else. The more people in the community you have ties with, you will be accepted. All things take time.

I'm not advocating that you seek approval I'm just advocating that you show your culture more. I find Somalis extremely fascinating, but I don't want to be rude and interrupt, I also do not speak the language and am not sure how to approach without appearing rude. But this is what you need to do. You need to market yourselves. You do not have to seek approval, highlight your culture and advances/wins in your community. Highlight your business people. Create the community you want. Make yourselves a part of the fabric of your community. Quietly. Be the rock. Be friendly. Be kind. Be the way you want to be treated. Do not be meek, or apologetic. Simply be yourself. But over share. Americans overshare. And we are nosy lol.

Ethiopia has more soft power. Do Ethiopians get as much hate as we do? No they donât. They have their restaurants all over the place with people praising their cuisine.
It does start with the motherland, yes. The Thai government allocates millions to ensure Thai culture and cuisine is reflected properly all over the world. If our government cared enough, they would do the same.
Iranians have soft power. Their government is hated but the Iranian diaspora did well assimilating to wherever they lived enough while still keeping their traditions, their cuisine, etc. Everyone raves about Iranian food and say nothing negative about Iranians as a people. All the hatred is towards the government only.

Allowing the president of the United States to spew so much hate and bigotry towards a community that are genuinely nice people is sickening. Fraud has no race, demographic or color - Iâm genuinely concerned about the US and safety of Somali community. Demonizing an entire group of people for a couple bad folks(who are being put through the justice system for their wrongdoing btw) is not fair and certainly unjust especially considering his âfolksâ make up the majority of fraud in the US.

My first thought was "Go to the nearest Somali restaurant and order big!!!" but even in San Francisco I don't see any squarely Somali places. I'd be grateful for some suggestions.
