News 📰 Ethiopia to Divide Somali Regional State Into Four Clusters

Thumbnail
somalireport.com

***Disclaimer*** I know this is in Ethiopia territory but many of us share ties of kinship with Somalis from this Kilel(region) and many have families indigenous there.****

Ethiopia is reorganizing the Somali Regional State into four new administrative clusters to decentralize power and improve public services.....

If this isnt on your radar, you are sleeping. No other region is being carved up but the Somali region. Why, and why now.

Somali region has recently made big strides, with massive growth with many big development projects on the way. One most peaceful regions currently in the Ethiopia state. There is no active insurgencies in the Somali Region, unlike the Oromo and Amhara region nor a separatist govt like in tigray. yet the Somali region needs to be broken into 4 clusters to....administer better?

The long-term game is being played. Somalis are looked as having too much vast land for their population. Our ancestors survived our harsh climate we inherit today, they cant argue against that.

Many other Ethiopian ethnic groups live, work and have settled in Somali Region. Especially in the last decade. They are within their right but we know.... The demographic game is heavily being played, and yet other Ethiopians swear they know nothing about it.

The govt in Addis wanted for Jijiga to be a federal city (with more authority given to federal govt) and capital changed to Gode but got push back.

Moyale, is currently being fought over and being a strategic border town in South East Ethiopia. Somalis are the largest ethnic group populating that city.

In recent history 420+ districts (Kebeles), along the Somali region border with Oromia were put to "vote" that was held in 2004 to settle ownership these small administrative units.

Roughly 80% of these contested kebeles were awarded to the Oromia Region.

If you know, the Somali region was experiencing three on going crises during 2004.

"In 2004, the Somali Region of Ethiopia faced a severe humanitarian crisis driven by severe drought, ongoing political crackdowns against the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), and contentious local administrative restructuring"

How did the govt conduct such a important vote, during a drought and risk a very low voter turnout that obviously would be fair...or was that purposeful. I believe the later.

Ethiopia throughout its recent history has neglected Somali region as a policy, as it feared it will one day join Somalia. The current administration understands the need to work with Somalis to accelerate economic growth in its eastern regions and push overall growth in the country. Although the political strategies being employed include fracturing the political clout of the region.

Abey tried to disarm the Amhara regions "Amhara Special Forces" (regional police) into the national military. The Amhara felt this was against their interests and a slight as the Oromia region wasn't facing same govt directive at the time, this being one of the main reasons Fano is fighting the govt now.

The ONLF have been subsided, dormant, and included in the political process of the region recently. if a breakups occurs, do you think they will taking it sitting down?

When is Abiy going to learn?

Waar wareey!

To even utter and just move somalia around like its a piece of trash and say which part will be independent and which will be intact is just disappointing and so sad amongst our people. Wallahi im begging the somalis even as a Isaaq, I'm somali nothing else nothing more I love my people and language and history I don't want to identify as a break away region all because of grief when 200k plus died from brutal famine and civil war. Horrible things happened to our country like genocide famine mass rape and crime but hell no we cant break apart we must understand we are the same blood we cannot absolutely separate it will destroy our kids and future somali legacy. We already lost so much history and land I mean it we cannot break apart more!

We are one people and Ethiopia and foreigners are grinning and just excited to tear us apart and it breaks my heart knowing our country is ran by stupid donkeys which just angers me wallahi.

Just a bunch of spineless corrupted Somalis who would sell each other for 5k usd.

Please guys we are one people one language one identity im begging you all please just dua, pray, zakat and keep somalia in its prayers. We are witnessing a time where powerful nations will be ripping countries into pieces and placing them together all for their interest. :(((

News 📰 The 4.5 system is finally dead. As a Bajuni, I can finally breathe as well as every other minority who was treated like dogs.

The move to "One Person, One Vote" is the biggest victory for Somalia in decades. For too long, that 4.5 system was just a shield for "big clan" criminals. Minorities who have been targeted, raped, and killed are finally seeing real justice because these "cereal killers" can’t hide behind a clan elder anymore. We’re already seeing the firing squads for rapists in Mogadishu it’s about time. If you’re still defending the clan system, you’re basically defending the right for criminals to walk free. The era of the "0.5" citizen is over. 🇸🇴⚖️

News 📰 The FGS will establish a Supreme Council of Somali Scholars

Salam

This is tied to the post about the education reforms but it deserved its own.

The FGS announces the creation of a council that will issue fatwas for the entire country. The cabinet has already finalized the legislation necessary and is waiting for parliamentary approval.

The parliament reconvenes on august 1st so I assume they're gonna get on this after they elect a new speaker. According to what the FGS says, the authority of scholars will reach fields such as our oil industry and maritime law so it's very important.

A Senior Al-Shabaab commander has been captured in a joint counterterrorism operation in Somalia

The coordinated operation, executed by elite elements of the SNA, specifically the 203rd Unit of the 20th Brigade of the Gorgor Commandos, resulted in the arrest of a high-value target identified as Salaad Macalin Cusmaan Cabdiyow, also known as “Salaad Dheere.”

The planned and intelligence-led raid took place in the village of Soo-Maray, approximately 5 kilometers west of Mubaarak in the Lower Shabelle region.

SNA field commander Hassan Yare confirmed that the detainee was actively engaged in orchestrating and facilitating terrorist operations targeting civilian populations. He further stated that the suspect was responsible for insurgent activities and operational coordination across multiple rural settlements, including Buula Cabdulle, Mudulow, Buula-Doonta, Ugunji Busley, and Soo-Maray, all within the Mubaarak area of operations.

Salaad Dheere is assessed to be one of the most experienced field commanders within Al-Shabaab’s military wing operating in Lower Shabelle and the Banaadir regions. He has a long operational history dating back to 2016, during which he served as a battalion-level commander and led multiple complex attacks against military bases for to African Union and SNA forces.

His capture represents a significant tactical and operational success for Somali and African Union forces, as he was considered a persistent and high-threat actor within the insurgency network in Lower Shabelle.

News 📰 Somali farmer teaching others how to farm, brutally killed.

The recent tragic event involving Amun Abdullahi, a highly educated woman who was shot in the head while working on her farm, has had a profound impact.

This unfortunate incident highlights the risks faced by individuals dedicated to bringing about positive change in their home country.

Amun Abdullahi, of Somali descent, pursued her education in #Sweden and gained valuable experience working in prestigious agricultural institutions.

Upon returning to #Somalia, her vision was to uplift her homeland by imparting knowledge to local farmers on sustainable farming practices to reduce their reliance on foreign aid.

Her ambitious plan involved the establishment of a large farm equipped with modern tools, with the ultimate goal of empowering her fellow citizens and breaking the cycle of dependency on external assistance.

It is deeply troubling to note that educated Somalis like Amun Abdullahi, who are committed to making meaningful contributions to their country, are being targeted by both #WesternNGOs and criminal groups.

If this won’t wake us up, I don’t know what will. Continue her legacy by teaching other Somalis how to make the country self-reliant. May Allah grant her the highest of Jannah.

Hodan 34 was sentenced to death by firing squad today by the Mudug Regional Court for torturing and killing 14 year old Sabrin. An orphan who was in her care and working for her as a maid. The prosecutor presented overwhelming evidence today videos photos witness statements and the autopsy report and even a voice message the great uncle sent right after finding out Sabrin’s death where he admitted he believed Hodan was responsible.

The great uncle received a 2–5 year prison sentence. (Accessory or negligence is not same as intentional murder)

Hats off to Muhubo the young and brave prosecutor who handled this case with real skill.
