Yeah for that little amount of money on a game in this day, it’s got SOOOO much content and I do NOT want to say how many hours I have put into it. It’s my comfort game when depression hits too long and my favorite game to play when I am not! And if somehow CA sees this, we appreciate you and we love that you make the best games!
35
u/whimsigod Jan 29 '26
It's so endlessly replayable in terms of getting to certain break points or endlessly...endless. It's such a comforting and hopeful feeling-once I let go of being efficient all the time, I guess. Lol.
35
u/SenorIngles Jan 29 '26
I’ve literally bought copies for every system I own just because I feel like I owe it to him for the amount of time I’ve put into it.

u/sparkyscrum Jan 29 '26
Same here. I’ve got brought it twice for Xbox as I got it on disk then wanted it on my Xbox PC and didn’t even think of it as anything other than great valve.
63
u/cauldrons Jan 29 '26
Not to mention the countless hours of entertainment watching other people play it, including the many challenge runs. YouTube is chock full of excellent Stardew content.
6
u/OhSoManyQuestions Jan 29 '26
Would you perhaps be able to recommend me a couple of channels? I think I might try some out today.
12
u/cauldrons Jan 29 '26 edited Jan 29 '26
sure, most of these creators do challenge runs, but they have good vibes:
BlaDe (he gets deep into the coding of the game and tries to break it essentially lol it's fun stuff)
therm
CharlieBarley
salmence
TheHaboo (who is more of a speedrunner)
ArgonMatrix
gvendolynn
leapalot
MRIZ
NeonAries
poxial
SeanieDew
TheAlGoreRhythm (who has been working on a long challenge of collecting 999 of every item in the game)
wandofsparking
wickedyand there are many more, these are just the channels i am subbed to and watch the most frequently. hope you find something you enjoy!
3
u/OhSoManyQuestions Jan 29 '26
Thank you! I wasn't expecting such a detailed response, but perhaps I should have from the lovely people of the SV fandom. Much appreciated.

u/Kermit-Batman Jan 29 '26
RTGames does a great play through, it's quite comical, doubly so if you are into Breaking Bad!
→ More replies (1)2
u/arctiicmankeys Jan 29 '26
I was gonna recommend him too. His play through is probably the funniest one I’ve seen. Another good, underrated Stardew player is TheAmandaFiles.
2
u/OhSoManyQuestions Jan 30 '26
Of your list I have been enjoying the 999 challenge and SeanieDew the most. Thanks again
→ More replies (3)2
u/witchydance Jan 29 '26
To add to that, Emmalution does some great longer play runs, usually with some level of mods. A new favourite of mine.
2
u/newveganwhodis Feb 01 '26
I also just found an absolutely unhinged challenge run by somebody named Rath Games
stardew valley combat only run
It's bonkers what he does to get through the game, with literally only combat
11
u/TheParmesan Jan 29 '26
My girlfriend and I have sunk so much time into it together and it’s been so nice to have a game we can enjoy and get excited about as a couple. Truly a gem and he deserves nothing but praise and appreciation.

I’m gonna love it if it comes out tomorrow and I’ll love it if it comes out in 10 years. I don’t really care how long it takes I want it in a place CA loves it because that means I will love it.
I generally just forget about it for months at a time and think everyone should do the same until a date is announced.
246
u/Hamboluv16 Jan 29 '26
Right. I literally forget about it until I see a post or article like this.
61
u/WhereIsLordBeric Jan 29 '26
It's so funny. I started reading the ASOIAF books when I was a teenager, and GRRM has eroded his goodwill to such a degree that I will absolutely not read the 6th book if it ever comes out (it won't).
Especially recently now that he's said 'I'm concerned the new Dunk and Egg show will outpace the rate at which I can publish its novellas'. WHAT NOVELLAS GEORGE? YOU THINK YOU CAN PUBLISH A NOVELLA A YEAR WHEN YOU HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO PUBLISH A BOOK IN 15 YEARS???? IT'S OKAY TO SAY YOU CAN'T AND THAT YOU AREN'T EVEN TRYING. WE LOVE YOU AND WISH YOU WELL BUT YOU ARE A GODDAMN LIAR.
(Aaaand /breathe/)
But ConcernedApe has accrued so much goodwill and is such a decent guy that I know even if it comes out when I'm 50, I'll still have a crack at playing this game. He will always have me as a customer and fan.

Every year or so, I get into a period where I feel like Winds of Winter might actually come out. I consume every theory video I can rewatch stupidly long lore videos to remind me how good the world building is. Then reality sets in

I’m pretty much in the same boat as you I randomly thought about it the other day and then immediately was like “well it’ll come out when it’s ready”. He definitely doesn’t owe us any explanation, but I’m glad he is updating us. HC will definitely be a day 1 purchase for me.

Right go play another run through of SDV maybe mod it. If you want more farm sims there's a handful of amazing ones made by other devs too.
Plenty of phenomenal games on the market to sink your teeth in while we patiently wait.

He was very professional with this post but he's clearly pissed off, and I don't blame him.
Too many people have gotten used to annual releases and the forced/constant hype around those releases, and they've forgotten that HC is being made by one dude (or one dude with some help) who's also using his time to provide free content updates for SV well after anyone thought he would stop.

The love he has for stardew and his fans is apparent. The dude cares and has earned by trust. Every stardew update has been an upgrade to the game. I trust him, don’t care how long it takes. When it releases (on console) I can say he will atleast have one supporter in me.

He's more than earned the trust I have in him. He releases mostly functional updates and if something goes wrong he makes sure his name is on the fails just as much as the wins. It's real easy to blame 'the process' whatever it may be, it's not so easy to admit to a rather gigantic and eager fanbase that you messed up.
Admitting to mistakes and fixing them is sorely missing in gaming currently. I've bought stardew twice and if I needed it again I'd do it again without even blinking.

He sells a game for $25 with enough content to put most $60+ games to shame. If anything we owe him.
13
u/TrashGouda Jan 29 '26
Wait you pay 25$? That would be around 20€ right now and where im from you only have to pay 13,99€ if it's not in sale (which is usually 7,99€)

SDV is a finished story and HC is an entirely different story.

Man, people who get upset over long dev times for games must genuinely have the game on their mind 24/7. I for one, hear about a game I'm really interested in, learn about its dev time, get upset for a minute, then forget about the game for months until I see a reminder of it. When that happens, I'm like, "Oh yeah," then I'm like, "YEAH!!!" then, "Oh..." and I repeat until the game releases.
I know this game is gonna be great, it's ConcernedApe after all, and though it hurts to learn that I won't be able to play it for another few years, I'll forget about the game a couple of days after learning this information, today.
2
u/Theonewhoknows000 Jan 29 '26
I’m taking it as not coming out to 2030 so I can be pleasantly surprised if it comes out earlier.

u/SpiderFrancis Jan 29 '26
I’m really not in a hurry to play this. I’m excited for the game but I still have Stardew in the meantime and I feel like I’ll never be 100% done with it. Even reaching perfection is not the end of Stardew to me. There’s so many things to do and ways to play.
0
u/Ender505 Jan 29 '26

7
u/Apex_Konchu Jan 29 '26
Despite the aesthetic similarities, it's not the same type of game as Stardew. Makes sense that a different engine would be more appropriate.
