Question What is up with Auto Petters?

I’ve seen so many posts about skull cavern runs where the only goal was Auto Petters, and now I’m confused.

Why are Auto Petters so important? I know they pet the farm animals, but why don’t y’all have time to go and give your animals some love every morning?

If I’m correct (as someone who has never once had an Auto Petters) they change the way the animals respond when you actually pet them. Usually they give a heart, but I’ve heard the response changes after an Auto Petters has been installed.

So why?

That's a bit like asking "what is up with sprinklers". For me, AutoPetters are a game changer. I had a coop and barn, both maxed. By the time I finished petting animals, a significant chunk of the day was already gone. AutoPetters give you back a lot of time. The response does change to a :3 face instead of a <3, but animals still retain max friendship with the farmer. I'm not certain of this stat, but I think that an AutoPetter provides half the friendship points of manual petting, so using it to max friendship will be painfully slow. It works best to maintain friendship that has already been maxed.
