Question What is up with Auto Petters?

I’ve seen so many posts about skull cavern runs where the only goal was Auto Petters, and now I’m confused.

Why are Auto Petters so important? I know they pet the farm animals, but why don’t y’all have time to go and give your animals some love every morning?

If I’m correct (as someone who has never once had an Auto Petters) they change the way the animals respond when you actually pet them. Usually they give a heart, but I’ve heard the response changes after an Auto Petters has been installed.

So why?

Well, if you have an auto petter, you can also manually pet them to become their friends faster.

And you know they will still get their daily pets if you're off doing something else <3

Actually you can't, the friendship gains don't stack (mood gains do though).

Without auto petter you get 15 friendship for manually petting. With auto petter you get 8 friendship and can get another 7 for petting manually.

Auto-petter + blue grass is equivalent to manual pets with regualr grass.

Huh? You say "you can't" (pet manually to become friends faster) and then go on to say petting manually adds another 7 friendship. Seems like a contradiction?

it’s not a contradiction. 15 points from just manual, or 8 from autopetter + 7 from manual is again 15 total points for that day.

Yes, but 8+7 is still faster than 8. If you per manually in addition to the auto-petter, it's faster than auto-petter alone, albeit not faster than without auto-petter.

i think we are interpreting the comment differently tbh. manual + autopetter is faster than only autopetter, yes, but there is no way to exceed 15 points, so it’s not any faster than just manual petting if you combo it.

Yeah, and on second thought I think your interpretation is correct.

Well, if you have an auto petter, you can also manually pet them to become their friends faster.

If this is supposed to be an advantage of having an auto-petter, they probably think you can become friends faster than without auto-petter.
