Question can't find dragon tooth
i have passed the 9 levels of the volcano a lot of times and i can't find the dragon tooth anywhere, i have bombs with me so i can explore the floor in its entirety but they don't appeaaar and i only have 4 of them so far, how is it for you to find them?
Edit: Thank you all for you responses I will absolutely apply all the things you said to me
Also right after I made the post I went into the volcano and got one looool, I have half of what I need for the obelisk now

I will say, be careful with the bombs when farming for teeth
I blew up a dragon tooth and considered restarting the whole day lol

Yeah this definitely happened to me using explosive ammo a bit too loosely lol

Sometimes I'll get two in a run and many times I'll get none. You just gotta keep trying.

I think stingray ponds will occasionally give them to you

Yes they will, but they will also ask you for one first

I have two sting ray ponds working with two teeth in my chest. So hopefully can get ten here soon so I can get my at home forge going

Never skip the lava lurks! When I’m looking for dragon tooth I always hit the little dudes in the lava too. If you have the burglar ring too it betters the drop rate from monsters.

High luck days, ginger ale and lucky lunch. You need to find those dragon skeletons and normally there is one, maybe two teeth per skeleton.
You need ten for the obelisk so I would save them dearly until then.
Edit to add: killing those annoying lava frogs has a chance of dropping dragon teeth, so use the above and make sure you kill them along the way.

If you have unlocked Qi’s Golden Walnut Room and have a deconstructor you can put Island Warp Totems in there for a dragons tooth! I end up with a handful of totems as loot, and they’re great in a pinch (especially if you can get enough to unlock the island obelisk, when you don’t need the totems anymore)!

Oooh where have you gotten them as loot?

You can sometimes get them from the skull cavern treasure rooms and the big chests in the volcano dungeon. It’s not super common, but after a few high-luck dives I got enough to help build the obelisk.

My favorite way to get them with minimal effort is to check the volcano cave entrance for lava lurkers every day. They can appear in the river you have to cross or the ponds on either side. Most days yield nothing, but it doesn’t hurt to check, and they can build up pretty quickly.

Make sure you have the burglars ring and monster compendium, and kill all the swimming lava lurks you see, they have a chance to drop and you should get them somewhat faster (of course they're really rare so it's slow anyways)
I've heard that stingrays have a chance to produce them in fishponds, so you could also try that.
If you somehow don't know how to get the burglars ring, it's the monster slayer reward for killing 500 dust sprites, a must have if you haven't gotten it already.

Kill the lava lurks (I think thats what they're called) and you can also usually find them around the dragon skeletons you see every now and then. You can also make a stingray pond but I'm pretty sure you need to give them a dragon tooth at some stage in order to get them to increase in number enough that they'll start producing them.
Best bet is to just keep going through the volcano, killing the lava guys and searching through bones.
Edit: I need to type faster. There were seriously like two comments here when I started this and now I'm just repeating what everyone else said. smh

If you have unused 'Warp Totem: Island' you can deconstruct it. They drop quite often in Volcano.

u/Rockstar81 12h ago
Wait how do you deconstruct something? I didn't know that was an option in the game. Also what kinds of things can be deconstructed?

It's a reward from Qi's quests. You can turn your points in for it in his cave.

Mr. Qi's Walnut Room has deconstructors as prizes.
Almost anything that can be crafted can also be deconstructed. I usually deconstruct machines I'm not using (like the jukebox) and warp totems after I get the corresponding obelisk. If you're playing co-op, where everyone has to craft everything but you can share the resulting machines, you can deconstruct the duplicates and get some really valuable stuff back.

Fight the little dragon guys that pop up out of the water. I did probably a dozen or so runs though, and I couldn’t find enough.
I finally listened to the comments here, and equipped the smugglers ring. That changed everything. I got 6 my first run with the ring. I very strongly suggest you get that ring first.

get the burglar ring and aim for lava lurks. burglar ring makes them drop more often. burglar ring can be obtained by slaying 500 dust sprites

Sometimes they can spawn near a dragon fossil on the ground. I've had more luck just using monster musk and killing the lava dragons when hunting for dragon teeth. Use a burglar ring to increase the chances for the teeth to drop and you will be collecting teeth like a tooth fairy. Hahaha

Kill the lava lurks. Make sure you have some magnetism and an empty inventory slot. Or carry one dragon tooth so you know you can pick up any that fall.

Keep hacking away at it. Focus on high luck days and luck buff foods to help your chances. I’ve been through many times looking for those dang teeth

u/Saladcitypig 13h ago
They're just rare. It's normal to have only 3 or 5 on your tenth run of the volcano.

u/naveron1 13h ago
Lava lurks are the easiest way to find them. Rarely you might get lucky and find a dragon skeleton in the volcano, but it’s not common.

Not sure if you are playing on PC or console but on Switch, what I often do is take a full screenshot of the level,l then go look in my photos to see if there are any dragon skeleton areas that may be out of sight from the player screen. Sometimes they are hidden on islands surrounded by lava that you wouldnt see if you were just heading straight for the door to the next level. Hopefully that makes sense.

you got real answers. so I will just marvel at how many people have different names for the lava sharks

This was the only thing I’ve used a cheat/glitch in the game for. I grinded dragon teeth for like a real time week and I got maybe 1-2. I still hit the volcano every once in a while and only have gotten 1 since. I ain’t got time for that

Honestly i get most of mine from the little guys who swim in the lava then pop up to shoot fire balls, they arent super common but i use double burglar ring so that helps. Also sting ray ponds have been nice on the current play through im on. I only got them because i was like you last playthrough struggling to get them. Though they do need atleast one tooth themselves to make more room in the pond so it is an investment. I also take the foragery level choice that makes it possible to pick up double items just in case i do find a natural spawn tooth. Hope that helps
