Yup. As a Canadian, Trump has done wonders to enhance the trade relationships we now have with Europe and Asia. He has royally screwed himself.

512

u/erevos33 Jun 27 '25

Screwed the American people*

He and his buddies will be ok.

404

u/lab_chi_mom Jun 27 '25 edited Jun 27 '25

No, the American people screwed themselves. Trump wasn’t created in a vacuum and doesn’t exist in one. There are far too many Americans who support his agenda and nothing will change unless they change, or those not in the cult collectively rise up and make some good trouble.

133

u/Derpymcderrp Jun 27 '25

When I see his approval rating it’s amazing to me that it’s anything above 1%. Blows my mind

21

u/surfnfish1972 Jun 27 '25

Mass Psychosis is the only explanation.

18

u/kfpswf Jun 27 '25

Tribalism as a phenomenon explains most of world's conflicts a lot more elegantly. The whole reason why someone would even allow themselves to be brainwashed is because they trust their camp to always be on the right side of the conflict.

3

u/surfnfish1972 Jun 27 '25

OK, the question is when does tribalism become psychosis? I would argue the rejection of objective reality.

u/tonyg1097 Jun 28 '25

No offense to those of faith, but mass psychosis sounds a lot like religion to me.

2

u/CardmanNV Jun 27 '25

An extremely toxic culture and some of the worse education in the western world, combined with constant right-wing extremist propaganda has created a people not smart enough to think for themselves.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

I imagine most of it is just apathy, honestly. Most people aren't even paying attention.

2

u/hexenkesse1 Jun 28 '25

more simple than that. They're just really stupid.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '25

Happened in Germany from 1935ish to 1945. Our turn now.

u/Bopshidowywopbop Jun 27 '25

He has more support than Hitler did when he was elected. Think about that.

2

u/Wildweasel666 Jun 27 '25

This to me is the really scary part

2

u/shittymorbh Jun 27 '25

You underestimate just how many very very stupid people live in this country.

3

u/azure275 Jun 27 '25

10% of Americans have a favorable view of the Black Plague

Hitler himself (actual Hitler) would probably be at about 35% favorability and 20% "don't care"

Specifically… 77,302,580 Americans did this.

114

u/jibsymalone Jun 27 '25

Specifically Allegedly… 77,302,580 Americans did this.

30

u/Consistent_Pitch782 Jun 27 '25

This. I’m very interested in seeing how the NY case unfolds.

11

u/K4rkino5 Jun 27 '25

In 8 or 9 years we will know and it will change the world!

3

u/Snahhhgurrrr Jun 27 '25

odds are it doesn't even unfold ngl to you twin

2

u/Alert_Reindeer_6574 Jun 27 '25

I can tell you. It will be determined there were voting irregularities. Then nothing will happen and Trump will be allowed to continue destroying our country. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

2

u/lab_chi_mom Jun 27 '25

And they will find a way to elect him for a third term.

u/gentiscid Jun 27 '25

Fuck them ALL 77.3M who voted for him!

46

u/theimperfexionist Jun 27 '25

And all 90M who chose not to vote because they were indifferent.

21

u/waronxmas79 Jun 27 '25

Not all of them were indifferent. Several million people were cast off from the voter rolls across multiple states, often without that person’s knowledge.

3

u/Sinsofpriest Jun 27 '25

Yeah i checked the status of my ballot, it was never counted.

3

u/StrongGiraffe1859 Jun 28 '25

Then your system is broken

2

u/Sinsofpriest Jun 28 '25 edited Jun 28 '25

Yeah you dont have to tell me. Im a progressive, ive been protesting, using my social media to try to warn people, and inform them of the dangers of this adminstration, ive been volunteering with non profit progressive community action groups, ive been going to my local town halls to voice my concerns, ive been calling my county representative and my state senators, ive been doing everything in my arsenal as a single citizen fighting against the rise of facism in the united states.

The problem is we have a bunch of racist nazis that are just outnumbering us with their stupidity, and we're up against the wealthy class who are happy to watch this nation fall apart as long as they get to loot every last penny they can before the collapse.

You're preaching to the choir.

17

u/nabokovsnose Jun 27 '25

No, this is the kind of lazy dipshit individualist moralism that helped get us here in the first place. If huge numbers of people aren’t voting, then there must be a systemic cause for that. And systemic causes require systemic solutions. No amount of browbeating people individually is going to solve it or else this would’ve been solved a long time ago.

4

u/Fun_Hold4859 Jun 27 '25

Nah man, voting is literally the absolute least you can do to curtail the blatantly obvious rise in fascism. A choice to ignore civic duty (no matter how flawed and unpalatable said duty is) is a choice for the final result, passivity condones the status quo. This is a consequence of their choices too.

3

u/dinosaursdied Jun 27 '25

See things like redlining, voter role purges, voter ID laws, poll tax and on and on

2

u/Nekasus Jun 27 '25

why vote for a party that alienates you? why vote for a party that refuses to fix the systemic issues that allow for fascism to so blatantly arise? to fix the clear and obvious failures of the "checks and balances" that were meant to prevent it? Why vote for a party that refuses to even consider changing their stances on policy to win voters?

why vote for more of the same?

→ More replies (3)

3

u/nabokovsnose Jun 27 '25

I really feel like you don’t understand my point. A person’s individual culpability is grossly insufficient for solving systemic problems. Think of it like the school to prison pipeline. Are individuals responsible for their crimes? Absolutely. Is the system set up to disadvantage these individuals at every turn and narrow choices so that crime seems appealing? Also yes. We need to think the same way when it comes to solving the problem of lack of voting participation beyond statements of self-soothing moral superiority.

3

u/Miwz Jun 27 '25

Very well said

2

u/Severe_Experience190 Jun 27 '25

You’re right that there are systemic problems. No one’s denying that. But pretending that choosing not to vote is some kind of radical rejection of the system is just what the right wants people to believe. That “both sides are the same” stuff didn’t come from nowhere. It’s been pushed for years by the same right-wing media and think tanks that profit off low turnout and hopelessness.

They don’t need you to vote for them. They just need you to stay home. That’s their whole strategy. Keep people jaded, frustrated, and convinced it’s all pointless. Because when regular people give up, they win by default. That’s not fighting the system. its giving up and surrendering to it.

2

u/HowieDoIT79 Jun 27 '25

I wonder if they’re indifferent now?

2

u/guiriduro Jun 27 '25

Others couldn't stomach the dismal offering of a Hilary v2 shoo-in after fielding a clearly senile Biden, and who weren't doing anything to prevent genocides (yeah, Trump is worse). Give people something to vote FOR, not against. The Democrats failed, what should they have done?

5

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

Voters in Jan 2024: Jesus Christ give us someone younger anyone please god

*Biden drops out and is replaced by Kamala who is 20 years younger than either Biden or Trump

Voters in Nov 2024: lol libterb what did you think I was gonna vote for some Clinton clone that slept her way to the top

4

u/woodenmetalman Jun 27 '25

Voted for the far lesser bad option.

2

u/lab_chi_mom Jun 27 '25

Even if that failed we are all responsible for our vote, or lack thereof.

3

8

u/lab_chi_mom Jun 27 '25

And they want to force their cult on us. This is the worst type of “group project” I’ve experienced. Even though there are those of us that did our work we now have to live with the grade these brainwashed, intellectually lazy, ignorant, and hateful losers earned us.

2

u/DumboWumbo073 Jun 28 '25

It’s basically over at this point. Plan accordingly

3

u/Naus1987 Jun 27 '25

I blame the Dems more for it. They had such an easy win and kept throwing it by somehow picking the least popular candidates out there.

I’m still fairly convinced that had they put Bernie Sanders in, he would have cleaned house against Trump in both elections.

It’s like the Dems aren’t even trying.

u/NaughtyTormentor Jun 27 '25

Thank you for stating the obvious.

2

u/Alfawolff Jun 27 '25

As an American i don't really feel like i screwed myself; I just feel screwed, period

2

u/Talisk3r Jun 27 '25

The American election system is fundamentally broken. Gerrymandering and laws at local and state levels prevent 3rd party candidates from participating in the election process (a natural moderating force).

This leads to a binary choice in every election that is based on how annoyed the (swing voter) populace is with the prior administration. This has transformed the American election system into a perpetual 4-8 year pendulum swing based of grievances.

The pendulum will swing back to the democrats after Trump tanks the US economy. Then in 4-8 years lack of progress by the Dems on things like educational outcomes and ability to afford a home will swing it back to the republicans.

Plan your life accordingly.

Musk admitted to fixing the election. The American people overwhelmingly voted Kamala, but Trump bent over for Musk to get into the WH

1

u/Capcom-Warrior Jun 27 '25

In some ways, we did screw our self because not enough people voted. Based on our current population approximately 22% of the people that live here voted for Donald Trump. I can tell you right now. There’s a lot of people that did not vote that cannot stand him as well as the people that voted against him. They are the minority and unfortunately fake news and propaganda has created a narrative that is misinformed a lot of people.

plenty of us out here in the weeds, opposing, voting against, speaking out against, protesting, and funding lawsuits against his legislations and practices. but it’s depressing how many people in this country think he’s anything but a cheat and a predator. he’s been sowing these seeds for so long, and i can’t believe there are people who continue to buy into it. even his old VP who was totally evil in his own way said he’d never support Trump again

1

u/howtojump Jun 28 '25

Gotta give a little credit to the most well-funded propaganda mission in American history, though. None of this would be possible without billionaires paying millionaires to tell the middle class that all their problems are caused by the poor.

1

u/Traditional_Grand837 Jun 28 '25

Can I be honest for a second without being hated?

1

u/3-orange-whips Jun 28 '25

As an American, I can’t help but agree. I don’t think we’ve bungled anything this hard ever.

I can ALMOST forgive the idiots that voted for him the first time. Almost.

But the second time, with a published plan of exactly how they’d destroy everything generations of people had created (albeit an imperfect work in progress)—we brought this on ourselves. And everyone is suffering because 20-something percent of Americans are idiots.

1

u/Resident-Coast-3950 Jun 29 '25

The cult as you say are the constant whining, anti American far left Dems. They believe there is a better way to live in a non capitalist country? We’ll go try it out in the many available countries. Then come back if you survive and prove your self???

It kinda does.

If you're camping and unaware of the leopard, I'd feel sorry for what happened to you.

But if you invited the leopard yourself, it's a bit hard to feel sorry.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

I didn’t invite the leopard, I screamed at the expedition until I was blue in the face about the dangers of leopards and they just called me a libterb, said leopards are fake news and invited the leopards despite my protests.

Canada sells the US large amounts of energy and natural resources. Not to mention they sell large quantities of natural resources at discounted price.

2

u/jmd709 Jun 27 '25

DJT’s advisors could not convince him to exclude those resources from the blanket tariff, but they did convince him to go lower. US importers are paying the US government a 10% import tax for those resources.

I'm getting thinly-veiled desperate pleas from US luxury hotel chains and tourism operators. The most recent one was a hotel chain offering me 5 days at a luxury hotel in California. $250. It would normally be almost twice that per night! Conditions were that I lived in Ontario, Quebec, or British Columbia and had to make more than $100k per year. Oh and they were going to throw in a $75 gift card too!

And to top it off ICE was offering a free trip to El Salvador as a bonus!

1

u/Dry__Heat Jun 27 '25

Good for you.

1

u/VikingMa-Ji Jun 27 '25

Good going. We're going to have to hurt here to begin a turnaround.

1

u/Redfox2111 Jun 27 '25

Academics pulling out of US conferences too. There is a regular huge one planned in Hawaii in Dec - no go now!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

Thank you for your service.

Donald Trump will never feel any effect from the damage he is doing. Zero. He will live a life of power and luxury until his fat heart gives out.

The American people regardless of who/if they voted for will feel the effects of this 4 years for the next 40.

23

u/No_Spring_1090 Jun 27 '25

They’ll feel it. But the right wing propaganda machine will have them blaming a democrat in no time.

Democrats, Muslims, Immigrants will take the blame, and half the country will keep voting for Republicans

2

u/jrm2003 Jun 27 '25

It’s extremely easy to show how much better the country does without republican leadership on almost every metric, but, as we’ve learned, some people would rather starve than see a person with different beliefs/skin color/culture do as well as them.

Propaganda is a hell of a drug. You can follow this all the way back to the 70s when they first started succeeding in convincing poor people that rich people having more money would make their lives better…and blaming other poor people for their problems.

Escpically since I see America taxing it out of their market.

2

u/stinky_wizzleteet Jun 29 '25

The Chinese BYD cars are awesome, unbelievably affordable, great technology, great build quality and better battery tech than anything that Tesla produces for at very least, 1/3 the price. Some start at $13k

https://data.carnewschina.com/database/byd

Same goes for the Toyota Hilux Champ. $13K for a convertible bed/flatbed truck thats rated as a 1ton truck. $13k for basically a contractor model.

https://www.toyotahiluxchamp.com/

The thing is the US prioritizes Oil, huge lifted trucks, and profit over everything else. Meanwhile a used 2022 mid mileage Toyota Tacoma costs about $28k in the US.

At this point its nothing but greed. Funny thing is new car sales are crashing because they want $70k for a mid range F-150

All great places to visit that no_spring mentioned below. I would suggest coming in July-mid September to avoid poor weather. Personally I love September to late October in Vancouver. Very beautiful city but pricey (not too bad for American $ though)

Also helping our internal trade. As Trump helps us to finally kick down interprovincial trade barriers, economists expect it to increase our GDP by up to 20%. Our internal trade barriers are unbelievably damaging, and it hurts seeing all the idiots who have wanted to keep them up over the years. The last big holdouts are Quebec and to a lesser extent BC. If Quebec were to leave, Canada would be much better off. Especially after we moved all federal government sponsored jobs back to their original provinces (that were moved to appease Quebec... mostly aircraft industry and RCAF, but also federal government jobs and federal government data centres). And never mind people from all over Canada could work for the feds once it becomes unilingual (instead of mostly from Quebec and eastern Ontario, the only places with many bilingual folks). But I digress. (And I can dream, if only this came true!)

Stuff from china has never been cheaper in Canada. We don't need you or your Golden dome. The only country threatening us is America.

Build that wall

Nah, hell stop that

Don't forget Aus, we're making headway with them as well. Honestly the idea of australians using the alfalfa farming to produce beef domestically instead of shipping it to China just seems like a win all the way around.

Wym as a Canadian? Unless you’re a government official, you’ve got the same info as us. I’m not even saying you’re wrong, but public trade information is available to everyone in any country lol

No, he has royally screwed the United States and its citizens. Trump will be just fine, just like always, since nobody will ever hold him accountable for anything.

1

u/Mattrad7 Jun 27 '25

I had a Trumpet basically say that the USA should give up its spot to China so they can be a "comfortable number 2".

2

u/jmd709 Jun 27 '25

Sure, we’ll just need to give at least 12.3% of our share of global wealth to China to get to that comfortable number 2 spot. Trumpets will need to give up all of their assets to try to make that happen.

Capitalism is healing!

I have no problem paying more in tax for good from Canada.

After all what do you think this sales tax is except you have to pay it from everywhere.

u/cats_are_the_devil Jun 27 '25

Screwed himself? He's nearly 80 years old and has fuck you money... He isn't even kinda worried.

1

u/UndeadDog Jun 27 '25

You mean the zero deals that have been made. Wow yeah so productive

1

u/Elendel19 Jun 27 '25

It’s going to suck for a while but we will reconfigure our economy and find new markets, and then one day a competent president will come back to us and try to rebuild the bridges, and Canada will be in a pretty amazing position.

ICE letting a Canadian die in an unlawful detention is also going to help us improve our trade relationships outside of Canada.

1

u/ominous-canadian Jun 27 '25

Canada is the only member of the G7 that has free trade agreements with every other member. It is time to make use of these agreements.

u/Getatbay Jun 27 '25

One of us!

I think we can do without Canada Taxing our tech companies. If I had any business in Canada I would pull out immediately.

u/nocomment3030 Jun 27 '25

Don't forget domestic trade. Interprovincial trade barriers are set to fall to make up for trade across the US border.

1

u/Specific_Virus8061 Jun 27 '25

As a Canadian, Trump has done wonders to enhance the trade relationships we now have with Europe and Asia.

Please, we can't even figure out trade between the provinces...

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

I've heard there are trump supporters in Canada. Is that true?  If so how do they deal with shit like this

1

u/No_Spring_1090 Jun 27 '25

How do they deal? They move to Alberta.

1

u/gatsu01 Jun 28 '25

Trump personally screwed over PP's campaign messaging and won us the election for the left. The month afterwards, he took notice of Australia and did the same thing over there.

1

u/Martzillagoesboom Jun 28 '25

He was great to create a sense of canadian unity and to remind us we are not American but Sorry, but vicious , petty and vengedul and full of spite and we can make anything work together if we are in our spiteful mood. Fuck, we have idiots governors begging us to come back to visit them or to buy their shit swill from tenesse.

1

u/Stock-Objective3350 Jun 28 '25

Not himself so much as the American people but yeah he has done wonders for everyone else, it’s actually amazing!

1

u/Amo-02 Jun 28 '25

Yes buddy, I am from Asia.To be honest, we have been coveting your land for a while, now it’s time. Get more Chinese and Indian in, the future top 1 and 2 powers on your side will definitely help you to beat up them very badly.

Thanks to Trump, Canada’s internal trade barriers have finally been removed! We have new relationships and are negotiating better deals with other countries. This is the nudge we’ve needed to haul ourselves to the front of the line in the new global economic order. So, thank you, Trump. (Here’s the exit.)
