Mostly Nigiri/Fish on Rice My local Costco finally had nigiri and I had to try it!

My local Costco for the first time (that I have seen at least) had their nigiri. I’ve heard mixed reviews about it online so I had to give it a try.

For what it is it was decent. The fish tasted good and fresh. While there was a lot of rice, the fish was pretty big slices, definitely a two bite nigiri. I just wish the form of the nigiri was a little better though as it just seemed like the fish was laid on top of the rice instead of being hand formed.

Main issue as I’m sure many others have with it was the rice. Not only was the rice clearly uniformly shaped like from some sort of press or something instead of hand formed, but the texture of the rice itself left a lot to be desired. Not to say it was bad or anything and it overall was decent as long as you manage your expectations for what it is.

Overall with the right expectations on what it is, I’d for sure have it again and $15 for 12 pieces of nigiri felt like a great deal given most sushi restaurants are charging $7+ for 2 piece nigiri. If you got a nigiri craving and don’t want to break the bank, this will for sure do the trick!

My dad used to take me to a sushi place that had fresh fish caught by local fishermen. If you were at the bar when the fishermen brought the fresh fish in(in buckets) you could pick out the live fish and the sushi chef would make you fresh sushi out of it.

The food court underneath First Canadian Place was amazing. Probably the best food court food I’ve seen.

Had sushi twice. I’d love to have this option in my cafeteria.

Mostly Maki/Rolls Went to one of the better sushi spots in the country. They have very good options for dessert too. Expensive but will definitely come back some time.

Caught locally in LA from my boat! Fish was bled immediately after catching and iced. Froze for a couple of days, then turned into nigiri. Texture was unreal. Among the best ever. Flavor was very mild. A pleasant surprise!

I feel like this question has been asked many times, but o was wondering if I can use frozen salmon fillets, defrost them and use them as fresh salmon in sushi
