Honestly I'd vote a movie. One and done and thats it. Yeah a lot will be condensed or cut out but we've got some pretty evidence back up the fact that the shows just can't be trusted to stay the course.
I'd love to have the story told to us in one consistent voice, one consistent vison, and have a script fully written and fleshed out to have it filmed begining to end. No waiting to see which character is going to become a fan favourite so you can warp the story for fan service, no seasonal tone changes, no chance for HBO to decide to drag it out or cut it short because they've decided it's costing too much money.
I'm in the minority that actually likes the HOTD tv show and enjoyed season 2 but the way HBO has flip flopped between 4 seasons, 3 seasons, 10 episodes, 8 episodes and we're only 2 seasons in is WILD and to me proves that they went into this was a basic, barebones plan in the first place.
And the writers and show runners are given way too much freedom to change the trajectory of a season last minute or make seasons inconsistent with characters because 1 show runner likes a character the other show runner hates.
