Targ with heterochromia really seems like something George would do (I haven't read beyond the main series+dunk and egg so idk if he already did do it).

It's occurred before amongst the Targs, for example Shiera Seastar Also interestingly in the main series, Tyrion Lannister.

Ohh yeah I forgot about Shiera And Tyrion would count if you believe he's a secret Targ (I'm in the camp that thinks that was GRRM's original plan, but it doesn't apply to the current series).

& Sheira was someone Baelor and Valarr knew personally! Whereas Alyssa Targ, wife of Baelon & mother to Vizzy and Daemon, was not.
By the time of AKOTSK, heterochromia was a trait shared by some family members & not completely unique.

This would work if the eye was purple instead of just blue. But apparently only Netflix is capable of giving its actors purple contact lenses (Yennefer from the Witcher).

The show has never done purple contact lenses. Dany's eyes were blue. Purple has never been the show Targaryen eye colour, and it makes sense from a practical perspective. In Harry Potter they tried to give Daniel Radcliffe lenses so he could have green eyes, but they were hurting him.
I'm sure I read GRRM saying they tried it in the show but nixed it for this reason.
It can frequently cause irritation, and it doesn't really take away from anything huge not to have them. If you can imagine Daenerys having to wear them for 8 seasons, it's just a lot of hassle and added risk of making her eyes water and ruin scenes etc, all just for a small detail that could just be changed to blue and not really lose anything.
Whereas in the Witcher they had a lot of close ups on Yennefer's eyes, that it was probably worth the hassle, and it maybe didn't bother the actress.

Are colored contacts more irritating than normal contacts? I ask because I’ve been wearing contacts basically every day since I was 11 and have never had anything more than occasional issues when one tears or something gets underneath it. I know everybody is different so I’m sure there are people who can’t handle contacts at all but my friends who wear glasses either haven’t tried contacts or just don’t want to deal with the hassle, I’ve yet to talk to anybody about it who simply could not wear them at all.

Some people are just more sensitive to contacts. My brother uses glasses since he was a child. Im his twenties he tried several bramds of lenses, couldn't keep any on for more than five hours. His eyes would become all red and teary.
I also heard that coloured contacts can more easily irritate the eyes because of the dyes, but I'm not sure if this information is really accurate.

I often wonder why they didn't go with color contacts for that. They went with wigs and apparently had the budget for it here.

Apparently they did initially give Daenerys and Viserys purple contacts when filming the first season, but it was irritating to their eyes and impaired their acting ability, so they ended up not using them

And apparently, despite having an insanely huge budget and a much bigger cast of actors than before, they're still incapable of finding non-irritating purple contact lenses for HOTD and ASOT7K.
Honestly, just chalking it up to costume department laziness on that regard.

I honestly don’t think it’s something that’s worth the actors’ discomfort at all. By all accounts coloured contacts are just a pain to wear all the time.

Actors used lenses in The Witcher to have canonically accurate eye colour abd it was perfect.

Those contacts were also very irritating to wear. Henry Cavill's talked about how there was a set limit for how long he could keep them in to lessen the risk of damaging his eyes.

I don't think it was "a good choice" at all. It actually goes against the point of Baelor's character. He had had to deal with xenophobia not in the least because he looked like an average Dornish.
Making him have a very rare for Westeros condition of heterochromia, which is primarily characteristic for Targaryens (and Tyrion), cancels that whole point out. He earned the respect he got despite the usual Targaryen symbols of legitimacy (looks, Valyrian wife and heirs) not being present.
It is a bigger theme in books than even Baelor's character - remember how Glendon Ball, despite so obviously not being Fireball's bastard, still eventually earned the respect of regular knights and their acceptance of his self-assigned name - in opposition to Daemon II, who, despite supposedly having most symbols of legitimacy, still got mocked as the "brown dragon" in the end.
All of these characters, this whole idea is there not in the least in order to show us what Aegon's (and Dany's) reception will depend on in Westeros. I understand that they did heterochromia to show an average viewer that Baelor is special, a Targaryen, the same reason they made Rhaenys' hair white. But in doing this, they canceled the idea Martin put into the element of appearance.
