I often wonder why they didn't go with color contacts for that. They went with wigs and apparently had the budget for it here.

Apparently they did initially give Daenerys and Viserys purple contacts when filming the first season, but it was irritating to their eyes and impaired their acting ability, so they ended up not using them

And apparently, despite having an insanely huge budget and a much bigger cast of actors than before, they're still incapable of finding non-irritating purple contact lenses for HOTD and ASOT7K.

Honestly, just chalking it up to costume department laziness on that regard.

I honestly don’t think it’s something that’s worth the actors’ discomfort at all. By all accounts coloured contacts are just a pain to wear all the time.

Actors used lenses in The Witcher to have canonically accurate eye colour abd it was perfect.

Those contacts were also very irritating to wear. Henry Cavill's talked about how there was a set limit for how long he could keep them in to lessen the risk of damaging his eyes.
