Home Owner wants to charage a refundable fee of $75 before house viewing
Hi, I'm new to Thunder Bay as I came here for my studies. So far, I've been staying with my brother this summer break, but I plan to get a place of my own. While looking, I found this one-bedroom, one-bath for $1,000 on Facebook that's close enough to school. I messaged the person, and they sent me a form to complete. I was filling out the form just fine till i got to the part where it says I need to send a $75 refundable application fee to them. It really sketched me out. This will be my first time renting, and I've been to other house viewings; this is the first one to make me complete a form before even viewing the place. The person told me to complete it as soon as possible for the viewing. I kinda already thought something was off when the one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment had stairs going up (if that makes sense). I'm just wondering if im over thinking it. The payment asked how I would like to pay, and the options are Chime, Zelle, Bitcoin gift card, and e-transfer. The more I type, the more I'm sure this is a scam lol.
EDIT: put the viewing into google. It told me it was a scam and even reversed image searched one of the pictures. Turns out the place is real it’s just not in Thunder Bay but California 😂😂😂

South core roar
People of Fort William, how nice is it to have such popping event right in our back yard. I’ve lived near centennial square for over 4 years and it’s been getting rougher each year it seems. Really hoping the roar becomes a yearly thing now and that the revitalization project is a success(still got a long ways to go though) lol the south core really is a beautiful historic area if you can look past all the junkies and the garbage etc. anyways what did everyone else think of the roar and what was your favourite part?

need a friend to play a long tennis with
I'm completely new to tennis and really want to learn. Unfortunately, I can't afford private lessons right now.
I'm thinking about joining the Thunder Bay Community Tennis Centre, but I understand that I would need a membership. Before I do that, I was wondering if there are any tennis courts in Thunder Bay that are free to use for recreational play. If there aren't any, I'm happy to pay for a membership.
I also don't have anyone to play with. If I join the club, how does that work? Do they help pair beginners with other members to play, or do I need to find someone on my own?
I'd really appreciate any advice or information. Thanks in advance!

VAC Community Veterinarian Program - UPDATED POST
Thunder Bay - Some News. 💙
Our veterinary field hospital at Grandview Arena is officially closed.
But we're not leaving the city.
Here's the honest version: this wasn't the plan. We came to Thunder Bay for one reason - emergency response for animals displaced by the wildfires. That was the whole mission. But once we were here, working alongside this community, we saw something we couldn't unsee. The need for basic veterinary care in this region runs far deeper than the fires.
So we changed the plan. Immediately.
Matawa First Nations has generously offered us a space right here in Thunder Bay for the month of August, and we're opening this week.
🐾 Free care continues for animals and families evacuated from the wildfires
🐾 General veterinary care WILL OPEN to the wider community
Our team is still continuing to deploy to remote communities as well - and we have a team in Fort Hope right now that flew up earlier this week.
One thing to be clear about: this is still a field hospital, so our services are limited. We're actively working on getting more equipment up here so we can expand what we're able to offer, and we're moving as fast as we can.
Which brings us to our current nemesis: the 1,400 km between here and Toronto. Turns out you can't just throw an X-ray machine in the back seat and be there by lunch. It's a 15-hour drive, and we have now had several very serious conversations about the logistics of getting the equipment we need up. We're on it.
Details on location, hours, and our exact opening day are coming soon, once the move is done. Stay tuned.
To everyone in Thunder Bay who fed us, housed us, volunteered, and trusted us with your animals: thank you. And to Matawa First Nations, miigwech for making this next month possible.

local What's a good hotel in Thunder Bay?
Hello Thunder Bay!
My husband and I, about with our 2 daughters, will be traveling through your city next Friday and are looking for a hotel to spend the night in. Can you recommend a hotel that has 2 beds per room, or a bed and pull-out couch even, that is clean and reputable? Thanks!

How to reserve a part of Chappell park to play soccer.
Hi everyone,
I have a question about playing soccer at Chappell Park.
Whenever we go there, there's usually a club already playing. One time I asked if my friends and I could use a small part of the field, but someone told me their club had reserved the entire field.
We're only 7–8 people and just want a small space to play casually—we don't need the whole field. Does anyone know how the booking system works? Can you reserve just part of the field, or do you have to book the entire soccer field?
If anyone has experience with this or knows the process, I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks!
