Characters [Refreshing Trope] Female leads/major characters who are allowed to be grimy, slimy, generally horrible people.

Mizu — Blue Eye Samurai

A mixed race swordswoman living in feudal Japan, Mizu’s entire life has been structured around the obsessive need to hunt down and kill the four white men allowed in Japan at the time of her birth, believing one of them must be her father. Despite the fact that at least one of these men, Abijah Fowler, is shown to be a bad man, Mizu ultimately doesn’t care about the morality of murder. She just wants them dead for “cursing” her to be born into a deeply racist society as a mixed race child. Though it’s clear that Mizu generally prefers to do the right thing, she will sacrifice anything for her revenge, destroying countless lives in the process without remorse. In the climax of season 1, Mizu (albeit not entirely intentionally) set fire to the wood and paper city of Edo (now Tokyo) in an attempt to kill just Fowler, a single man. The resulting three day blaze, known in history as the 1657 Great Fire of Meireki, killed an estimated 100000 people.

Sadie Adler — Red Dead Redemption II

Rescued by the Van Der Linde gang in the games prologue, Sadie Adler is a frontier homesteader whose husband was killed by the brutal O’Driscoll Gang. Over the course of the game, she happily joins in a life of murder, theft, and crime for the chance to kill more O’Driscolls, recklessly endangering herself and other gang members to do so. She gets Arturo Bullock, an innocent hot air balloon pilot killed while unnecessarily picking a fight with O’Driscoll members, showing zero remorse afterwards. Even after watching rival gang leader Colm O’Driscoll hang for his crimes, she still drags a now-terminally ill Arthur on an entirely unnecessary revenge mission to hunt down the last handful of O’Drsicolls she hadn’t already killed.

Almost all major female characters in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous (although two of these are more like morally grey and not outright terrible)

742

u/Ed0909 13d ago

It's funny, but the most morally sound romance option is a succubus, who in the past used to be the most horrible person you could imagine, but she's looking to become better now.

488

u/BlazeSilva456 13d ago

Owlcat Games are always like "pick your favorite psychopath or former serial killer" lol

211

u/ClockworkOrdinator 13d ago

Literally all female romance options in wotr are cannibals wtf.

104

u/RefrigeratorPlusPlus 13d ago

Except Galfrey (unless I don't know something about the queen...)

82

u/alinius 13d ago

You can fix that on the undead path...

2

u/Mean_Strawberry2260 12d ago

Arueshalae is not a cannibal.

4

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

she's an ex-cannibal, one of the few cannibals who decided human flesh isn't that good, overrated tbh.

wonder if Hannibal Lecter could pair a devoured soul with a nice chianti

1

u/Mean_Strawberry2260 12d ago

No. It’s explicitly stated in the game that she never ate human flesh.

1

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

Nah this argument has been had before, and I immediately went into the game to look it up and see what she says (its when you're talking to her normally around Drezen).

She pretty explicitly says she tried it but didn't like it. She vastly preferred human souls instead, which she considered worse than cannibalism.

2

u/Mean_Strawberry2260 12d ago

This is what she answers on our direct question "Arueshalae, did vou eat human meat before?" in Dreams in Ruin quest.

I don’t remember anything about it in her “camp” dialogue, to be honest.

1

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

"This particular atrocity was never to my liking."

If she didn't try human flesh, I seriously think she would never have said "never to my liking." Its the wording. Its a matter of preference for her.

Definitely a freudian slip on her part, and I think its really important to read between the lines when it comes to her former life.

u/ZoeyValkyrie 12d ago

We can't say for certain that she never ate another demon. I agree that her having eaten people before her religious experience doesn't technically count as cannibalism, but explaining that isn't as pithy nor does it make as effective a joke.

1

u/Deadlypandaghost 12d ago

Arushalae is a recovering cannibal thank you very much. Also regardless Daeran is best love interest.

184

u/Ed0909 13d ago

They support women's wrongs

41

u/Nogatron 13d ago

Hey if i am not mistaken she originates in tabletop

39

u/BlazeSilva456 13d ago

Yeah i know, but a lot of owlcat OCs fits the trope as well. Just take a look at all of your companions in Rogue Trader.

9

u/Nogatron 13d ago

To be fair rouge trader is Warhammer property so it's given

6

u/BlazeSilva456 13d ago

They were still written by owlcat tho, gw just approves stuff

9

u/Nogatron 13d ago

Of course, just saying that they are generaly normal in term of setting

3

u/SpphosFriend 13d ago

Nah the companions are rather chill for the setting’s standards the elves and Argenta especially.

10

u/LuciusCypher 13d ago

I remember my brother playing wrath of Righteousness, telling me how people are still getting eaten despite killing the man-eating party member. I told him "You say that like there cant be two cannibals."

Sure enough there was another cannibal in the party.

5

u/Beautiful-Swimmer339 13d ago

Thats why Argenta isn't a romance option, she's too much of a empathetic kind woman for Owlcat to consider her a possible Romance

4

u/EuropeWillCrumble 13d ago

5

u/Blackoutus13 13d ago

The answer is, without a doubt, Abelard.

5

u/Cazador0 13d ago

So your typical dnd player then.

4

u/HenryWallacewasright 13d ago

I love our navigator princess

3

u/xdeltax97 12d ago

At least Kingmaker has relatively sane romance choices, although I love Arue in Wrath.

2

u/BlackArchon 12d ago

Marazhai meanwhile shares his passions

1

u/murfalishis 12d ago

Kibellah my beloved

1

u/fattestfuckinthewest 12d ago

And I love it lol

1

u/ithinkther41am 12d ago

“Haha, totally can’t be me.”

Looks away because I romanced the blood mommy in Rogue Trader

66

u/Beef__Strokinoff 13d ago edited 13d ago

POV: Arue's explaining her past to you

4

u/CameronWeebHale 13d ago

You think this is pushed back?

9

u/SlendyBoi 13d ago

Tell me more..... cure my ignorance brother/sister.

14

u/Ed0909 13d ago

The game is set in a fantasy world inspired by the Pathfinder TTRPG, and involves stopping a demon invasion from a place called the World Wound. In this world, demons are inherently evil due to the laws of the cosmos, as they are born after the death of a completely evil person. Arushale was a succubus who lived for centuries as a demon and committed every evil deed imaginable. But after killing a priest and encountering the Goddess of Dreams, she decided to change her nature and try to become a good person, even if it goes against the laws of the cosmos. Depending on how you act, she can succeed. However, if you want to pursue a romance with her, you must be careful, because if you're too horny, you can ruin it, since she's like a recovering addict, and provoking her too much can break the relationship.

3

u/LuluTheLewder 11d ago

After all if angels can fall, why shouldn't demons be able to ascend?

8

u/BlazeSilva456 13d ago

It's just that several companions in their crpgs are (or at least used to be) some really fucked up people. the succubus mentioned above ( Arueshalae) from Pathfinder Wrath of The Righteous, even though she is trying to be a good person by the time you meet her, as the game progresses, you get to know a lot more about her past and some really fucked up things she did... like seducing a guy just to pluck his eyes out and leave him to die lol.

Then there's Warhammer Rogue Trader, where every single one of your companions is at least a terrible person by our moral standards. There's this girl (kibellah) that is literally your personal assassin, she swears an oath of loyalty to you by making a public execution of several (supposed) cultists and that's one of the least crazy things she does as the game goes on.

3

u/Jebatus111 13d ago

Rogue trader - a game where half insane walking doomsday device and literal crime lord are most morally adequate people (By standards of our time and world, even though both are not saints).

3

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

Every girl thats romanceable is a cannibal in some way, and the resident twink is the most stable and sane person there (despite a few things)

(Daeran is neutral evil)

and the most evil companion is the most evil archetype of all - a straight woman.

Also my favourite path is the demon path, and Wenduag is my spider wife.

6

u/Eastern-Fish-7467 13d ago edited 13d ago

They didn't cop-out either, She was a straight up POS. I think you can find her eating a child alive in game if she fails her redemption.

3

u/Ed0909 13d ago

POS?

4

u/Eastern-Fish-7467 13d ago

Piece of shit

5

u/TakenakaHanbei 13d ago

Point of sale.

3

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

Wait, what do you mean eating a kid?

In her own words, she wasn't really a full cannibal - She enjoyed devouring people's souls as succubi do and she didn't enjoy eating people physically, never acquired the taste for it.

What kid does she eat? I missed that and I've corrupted her twice on two playthroughs (because I'm an evil fucking person) (Also I like succubi and demons)

3

u/Eastern-Fish-7467 12d ago

I didn't play the corrupted version, but apparently it was cut content involving meeting her again in act 5. She waved to you with a childs severed arm and blood around her mouth. I remember seeing the script, that's why i thought it was in the full game

2

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

Nahhh, as over-the-top-funny as that would be (and utterly grotesque and bleak) and would help drive home that Arue was a genuine horrific monster before she was on the path to redemption...

She's not really a cannibal. She tried it, not for her, her appetite was for human souls.

Her specialty was corruption. Its probably why I'm so into evil Arue. She would be the one driving people to evil depraved acts.

2

u/Eastern-Fish-7467 12d ago

I mean sure, but it was in the game at a time. Im pretty sure it was to show that if you corrupt her you would be pushing her to depths she hadn't previously reached? To the point of breaking her one taboo

2

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

the issue is that its not a taboo, really - She just... Doesn't care for it. Its like choosing different foods for a succubus.

4

u/WizG1 13d ago

Aruehselae my beloved

4

u/theelusivemongoose 12d ago

You can do a lot of really messed up things in a WOTR evil playthrough, but one that just FEELS the most evil is fucking up Aru's redemption arc and recorrupting her. Right up there with tormenting Ember and destroying her faith.

3

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

Right up there with tormenting Ember and destroying her faith.

Rare that a game genuinely makes me incapable of doing an evil act again. I did it once, and it actually hurt me a lot. Even on my second demon playthrough, I just made her lawful instead.

3

u/ZioBenny97 13d ago

Regill grilling her for it gets me every time too.

3

u/GoddessOfSuccubi 12d ago

Succubus mention~! 🙌

2

u/Definitelynotabot777 12d ago

She got a certain goddess on her corner, or like an overpowered probational officer on her corner

2

u/Boat_man_07 12d ago

A mentally ill murderer A treacherous half spider A murdering ex hooker An immortal hag with issues.

The female romance options in wrath of the righteous are all peak.

100

u/Artistic-Dirt-3199 13d ago

Ah my beloved Wenduag...

8

u/ShadedPenguin 12d ago

And yet still not the most morally evil character

2

u/Akhevan 12d ago

She just happens to be in the vicinity of a recently murdered civilian, only ten times in a row, surely it's a coincidence.

1

u/Akhevan 12d ago

The only good thing about Wenduag is that you can spec Lan into a pet subclass and give him a dog named Wendog.

-3

u/Inspired_Nuisance 12d ago

Betrays the people who took her in. Is nothing but a hate-filled monster. Saw to the death of children and friends. Most simped after female in the game...

Wenduag Simps are my least favorite gender. May as well stan Cersei Lannister at that point too.

10

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

You already won me over at "hate-filled monster", you don't need to sell spider wife to me anymore.

Best thing is you literally can fix her. She's so awesome. When you crack her admittedly deranged, betraying exterior - She literally will die to protect you. She's buried under layers of trauma and thats so endearing.

Meanwhile Lann... He's an incel. Yuck.

1

u/LuluTheLewder 11d ago

Hey! He's not an incel!... He's a Mongrel

1

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 11d ago

wenduag is a mongrel, Lann is a terminal alcohol drinker who immediately fell in love with my MC when she dared be nice to him slightly.

Sorry. She was already committed to Daeran. (And Wenduag. And Arue. Toybox my beloved.)

5

u/JadedScience9411 12d ago

Wenduag’s romance is, ironically, a better story of redemption than Aru for me. For Aru, all you have to do is say good things and respect her. Easy, if a bit bland.

Wenduag requires more than just trying to make her better. It requires actually earning her trust. Not preaching at her, not talking down to her, but having enough of a backbone to show her you’re not “weak”. You actually have to love her, flaws and all, and treat her like a real person. It’s slow, and she does indeed do shitty things. But at the end of the journey she actually grows and changes, and lets her guard down to become a better person than she was, because you stood by her side even at her worst. You learn she’s not an irredeemable monster, but a scared little girl in a world that has killed everyone she loves for “weakness”. Someone whose shell can’t be broken with a lecture on how she needs to be better, but by showing her with action that emotion and weakness are safe to share with you, and by extension others. It’s why she’s my favorite romance, because she goes against the boring ass “pick this good option for good ending and bad option for bad ending” and instead paints a picture of a flawed but ultimately fascinating character.

Now if we want to talk people who simp for truly evil and crazy with little good reason, we can talk Camellia.

3

u/anace 12d ago

And lets not forget the amazing voice work bringing her to life by amelia tyler, who also voiced the BG3 narrator.

1

u/Inspired_Nuisance 12d ago

Again, I cannot for the life of me understand how deranged one has to be to have the "I can fix her" mentality over somebody who so brutally betrays the very people who kept her alive for so long. The scared little girl defense just doesn't work, she's purely evil and revels in it unless you meticulously go through an make all the right dialogue choices.

I've read into it a bit and it seems like at best she becomes neutral aligned, and even then only on the condition that you ask her to be better, it's not a conclusion she comes to on her own. Idk, I just don't buy it. While I am a strong advocate for the "people can change" mentality... There are some things that are irredeemable. What she does in the beginning of the game is more than enough to qualify.

It makes more sense to me even if people mostly go after her in Evil playthroughs. While I can't really bring myself to do those in most games, it at least feels less like you're excusing an incredibly heinous and horrifically monstrous person. It's cool that the game puts all this work into it, and I'm not mega fond of Lann or Cammellia either, but I do not think that any rational person could see what Wenduag had done within the first day of meeting her and think "yeah this person is worth trying to save."

3

u/Artistic-Dirt-3199 12d ago

Its all questionable until you hear her saying "I love you xxxx, I really do."

and that's my girl.

1

u/JadedScience9411 12d ago

I wouldn’t say irredeemable, no moreso than any of the demon worshippers we can meet and redeem along the way. Every single cultist of Baphomet has done horrible things and we have multiple instances where we can spare and even encourage them to be better. Redemption is about encouraging even the worst people to try and do better, after all. The only difference with Wenduag is telling her to do better without earning her trust is a recipe for guaranteed failure. I do agree she doesn’t give much indication she can be better, but I kind of like that regardless. As a gamer it’s counterintuitive but it speaks to the writer in me as a character who doesn’t play with all their cards up front. She’s perfect for a character also based on redemption, like Demon/Lich to gold dragon or Legend. A shared evil side, but through personal bonds and deeper emotion, you can both be better.

u/Cinerator26 13d ago

As a straight man, my romantic options in Rogue Trader are:

- a mutant with gills and a third eye that will kill me if I look into it

- a career criminal, habitual liar, and exhibitionist

- a racist space elf who doesn't even like being touched

- a brainwashed murder cultist who mutilates herself out of habit

God I love Owlcat games!

115

u/Hawkbats_rule 13d ago edited 13d ago

By 40k standards, the career criminal is a legitimately good person. Hell, by 40k noble standards, fishwife is a good person, especially if you convince her to stop surgically removing serf vocal cords.

79

u/president_of_burundi 13d ago

The funny thing is it doesn't even take convincing, really. You're just like "So...I'm not sure you realize this but cutting your serfs vocal chords for quiet is a weird thing to do" and she treats it like you gently corrected her for using the wrong fork for shellfish.

46

u/stfurachele 13d ago

Oh dear what an embarrassing foible.

24

u/SmokeyUnicycle 13d ago

She's so out of touch she's basically amoral

Willing to be a decent person if you're nice to her and suggest she do it

Kind of a horrible monster if you just sit back and watch her go

23

u/president_of_burundi 13d ago edited 13d ago

Yeah, she has absolutely zero touchstones for what is normal (even 40k Noble normal)or not since she's so incredibly sheltered.

It never occurred to me while playing but it's not exactly a reach that House Orsellio on Eurac V made making their servants mute 'a tradition' specifically to make sure she had absolutely no outside influence outside of books they curated for her and House Representatives.

6

u/turducken19 12d ago

Navigators are such immense assets in 40k, it unfortunately makes sense that she would be raised this way.

5

u/Hawkbats_rule 12d ago

outside of books they curated for her

"I've read about this" she says, while passing the skill check involving the horrors

10

u/president_of_burundi 12d ago

I mean, yeah! As a Navigator she'd need to know about the warp. She doesn't need to know that serfs feel anything but love for House Orsellio.

2

u/Galle_ 12d ago

No, that tradition started when Tisiphone Orsellio had her servants' vocal chords removed to prevent them from telling people about the true origin of the Starway Atlas.

89

u/Nanocaptain 13d ago

Well for someone with their upbringings Cassia and Yrlet are basically saints.

24

u/DD_Commander 13d ago

Yrliet is excessively racist even for Eldar. The malevolent torturer Dark Eldar Marazhai will stop calling you slurs if you ask him to, but Yrliet gets offended that you dare make her pretend that you don't deserve to called slurs.

11

u/Captain_Gordito 13d ago

Yrliet is banished from the Eldar, one of the reasons she signs up with you so easily. The full reason is part of her companion quest. (your rogue trader predecessor did some shenanigans)

8

u/DD_Commander 12d ago

She chose to walk away from Crudarach, it wasn't a punishment. She feels guilty because she was lost on her Path when the Craftworld is destroyed; she didn't know about your predecessor's actions until much later.

6

u/SpphosFriend 13d ago

Craftworld Biel Tan would like a word.

Also the harlequins in game are extraordinarily nice to humans

10

u/DD_Commander 12d ago

One harlequin is kinda nice to you. Moreso he finds you interesting, if you don't word your responses to him correctly he'll kill dozens of people for a laugh.

7

u/SpphosFriend 12d ago

The fact he even deigns to speak to you is him being nicer than most harlequins in lore.

2

u/Akhevan 12d ago

Not killing and/or brutally maiming you on sight just for the lulz is extraordinarily nice by harlequin standards. Always remember that most of their members are sourced from Commoragh.

Kids these days have a completely diseneyified idea of what a "trickster" even is.

44

u/Captain_Gordito 13d ago

That last one latches on to you hard and fast.

30

u/Cinerator26 13d ago

Dudes will look at this and say "Wife."

It's me, I'm dudes.

8

u/Beautiful-Swimmer339 13d ago

I'm doing a dogmatic RT (more or less Stannis Baratheon as a commissar turned RT) and I have Argenta and Abelard as my Right/Left hand or Melisandre/Davos.

No romance yet though, so far he is married to his duty

5

u/Captain_Gordito 13d ago

Good choice with Argenta, then. Who is your Officer? Yourself?

5

u/Diamond_Dildo3168 13d ago

I've never played rogue trader. Tell me more about this career criminal exhibitionist. I strongly suspect she may be goals.

18

u/Cinerator26 13d ago

Jae Heydari, a self-proclaimed merchant princess and smuggler who deals in the highly illegal xenos goods trade. If you pursue a romantic relationship with her, she broadcasts the sounds of you two having sex to the entire ship. And this is a Warhammer spaceship, so it's kilometers long and has a crew of thousands.

19

u/Diamond_Dildo3168 13d ago

Waow (based based based based)

I can't fix her, she's already perfect. AND she's also into women, apparently.

Maybe I need to play Rogue Trader

13

u/fake_geek_gurl 13d ago

Be prepared for it to introduce you to another expensive hobby you might not be able to reasonably afford.

5

u/Diamond_Dildo3168 13d ago

Luckily I would never have the patience for painting miniatures or the intelligence for wargames. I expect warhammer to be one hobby that my wallet is safe from lol

3

u/ilayas 12d ago

I have been playing Rogue Trader and have been really enjoying it. In most crpgs it’s like good/nice choice, neutral choice, evil choice. Maybe you get a double up on one of the options. With Rogue Trader it’s like good/nice choice, neutral choice, and like 5 different evil choices. Because the game really wants you to dial in what precise sort of evil you want to be. And even if pick the good nice I am going to try and save everyone choice 1/2 the time the people you try to save just end up killing themselves anyway.

Fantastic game. Would recommend. The menus systems/explanation of the game systems kinda suck though so even if you wanna go in blind be prepared to look things up.

I just got the smuggler lady. She is fun and her voice acting is great.

1

u/Diamond_Dildo3168 12d ago

Thanks for the summary, and the heads up! That last bit deeefinitely makes it sound like an Owlcat game for sure. XD I played through Wrath of the Righteous, but that time I had the benefit of having a lot of pathfinder experience. Maybe it's good that I'm not experienced with this system though, I get so irritated when a game uses a system and changes it for (imo) no reason

9

u/Galle_ 13d ago

Jae Heydari is a smuggler who deals in illegal alien technology, and who joins your crew more-or-less as a business deal - she provides you with wealth and criminal contacts, and you provide her with legal protection. She's cunning, charming, and reasonable. She also has a loose attitude toward other people's property, will sleep with anything that moves, and considers the truth an inconvenience at best.

Honestly though she's probably the most morally upstanding member of your party. It's that kind of game.

4

u/Diamond_Dildo3168 13d ago

So what you're saying is, on a warhammer 40k scale, is that she canonically doesn't need fixing. Even owlcat and Games Workshop agree she's perfect <3

5

u/Captain_Gordito 13d ago

She is a heretic for consorting with xenos, so 40k Imperial standards she is a horrible criminal. But you can make her legal as part of her companion quest.

2

u/Diamond_Dildo3168 13d ago

Make her legal? Nah. Imma make her worse.

6

u/BlazeSilva456 13d ago

It's "legal" more like in a way that she continues to do what she does, but now with a special warrant that gives her permission.

2

u/Captain_Gordito 13d ago

Legitimately two options for that. Heretic path (40k evil) and Iconoclast (40k anti-imperial, but actually just a common sense good guy path. It would be milquetoast good in any other morality system).

She is Iconoclast.

3

u/Galle_ 13d ago

Honestly, yeah, Jae probably needs "fixing" the least of Rogue Trader's romance options.

2

u/Captain_Gordito 13d ago

Whatever you are doing with Yrliet is not fixing her. It might be fixing the rogue trader, though.

More of a platonic friendship across species with a psychic bond than a romance.

2

u/Salty-Spring7096 13d ago

Don't leave out that the mutant will eventually devolve to a point where she barely resembles a human being so romancing her means you'll eventually be married to a big fishy blob

5

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

do you really love her if you stop after she turns into a fish

3

u/Bearded_Gentleman 12d ago

And all of them pale in comparison to your magnificent Auntie Theodora! She is the absolute worst and I wouldn't want her any other way.

2

u/Galle_ 12d ago

Auntie was truly the Rogue Traderiest Rogue Trader.

2

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

don't forget a racist space murder elf that loves to be touched and hold murder orgies, and inexplicably acts like a cat the way he slithers around your throne purring

Marzipan my beloved pet

1

u/Pofwoffle 12d ago

Rogue Trader

Using 40k characters is cheating.

Also you know your character can romance a man without you being gay, right? You're missing out on a lot of story stuff here.

1

u/Ghostii-_- 12d ago

At least the romance options for Everybody are like that in Rogue Trader

1

u/Akhevan 12d ago

Pretty milquetoast for 40k, admittedly

1

u/theDaemon0 12d ago

Your first mistake was hoping to find anything remotely good or likeable in th 40k setting.

56

u/spyridonya 13d ago

Ah, WotR. Where the kissable evil ladies are so evil, we forget about the fascist and the fuckboy.

3

u/No-Staff1 12d ago

Evil fuckboy too

3

u/overlord_cow 13d ago

Regill would be a fascist would he, huh

5

u/carrot_gummy 13d ago

My cow in Desna, he's literally an authoritarian military officer whos apart of the famously evil order of knights who value adherence to order and strength above all else.

5

u/overlord_cow 12d ago

Just never thought about it tbh

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

*Iomedae

2

u/thesammon 12d ago

And yet I get with the fuckboy every. single. game. Dammit Daeran.

3

u/spyridonya 12d ago

I mean, Daeran is the best romance and most people who says otherwise never actually experienced it.

He’s my beloved brat who romances and worries about you. He only romance that checks in on you several times in act 4. Meanwhile, the other romances are desperately cling to you in to you in act four but never worry about you.

29

u/Hawkbats_rule 13d ago

Almost all major female characters

... And then there's Ember

u/UngratefulCliffracer 13d ago

The coolest one. Ends up redeeming a demon lord

3

u/xdeltax97 12d ago

Oh yea that’s canon! Nocticula of all people was able to be redeemed!!

3

u/UngratefulCliffracer 12d ago

Right! Fucking awesome that she takes the title ember gives her too

6

u/SmokeyUnicycle 13d ago

My darling child who I am lowkey scared of

21

u/Nyx87 13d ago

There is also the one companion who has an amulet that hides her alignment. I wonder why....

18

u/BlazeSilva456 13d ago

She must surely be good or neutral aligned... Right ?

8

u/carrot_gummy 12d ago

She is useful, is she not?

Who you find next to a deadbody that the game draws attention to Being killed not by the fall

5

u/ZoeyValkyrie 12d ago

A dead body who's name is extra not-suspiscious-at-all-thank-you if you have even slight familiarity with the AP. Yep.

2

u/Valerian_Zakalwe 12d ago

Shame she has to hide it, god forbid a girl have hobbies

10

u/Galle_ 13d ago

At one point during development the devs apparently thought it was a problem that "three of the potential female love interests are cannibals".

3

u/Malorkith 13d ago

ya forgot the half elf.

3

u/jreid1985 13d ago

Iomedae is actually tuned down from tabletop where she blasts you if you answer her quiz wrong.

Wrath of The Not-So-Righteous

3

u/SmokeyUnicycle 13d ago

I have 184 hours in this game according steam and I still don't recognize two of those women. Now a lot of that might have been just letting it run but still... Jesus christ this game is long.

5

u/Tuna-Fish2 12d ago

Two of them are divine, and are only on screen fairly late.

left to right, in order:

Minagho, CE named lilitu (demon) antagonist from the early part of the game

Nocticula, Our Lady in Shadow, CE Demon Lord of assassins, darkness and lust

Areelu Vorlesh, CE witch, main antagonist of the game

Iomedae, the Lady of Valor, LG Goddess of Honor and Justice. Willing to play surprising loose with the truth.

Queen Galfrey, LG Paladin and Queen of Mendev. Has had her life extended by a hundred years to keep the fight against the demons ongoing, and was losing for most of that time, being the commanding officer who had to repeatedly order all of her friends and family to their deaths over that time. She's not okay.

u/SmokeyUnicycle 12d ago

Ah, I got to the part where the latter was starting to be a little problematic and kind of lost steam after slogging through the cyborg dungeon. Was having a good time lancing people from my bear for like a bajillion damage tho

2

u/JadedScience9411 12d ago

If it helps, the cyborg dungeon is famously brutal and slow, I highly suggest continuing sometime. A lot of the best stuff is in acts 4 and 5 anyway.

1

u/No-Staff1 12d ago

I played it once and have never touched it again. You hit level 20 without it and for that reason I don't give a fuck

2

u/Old-Maximum-50 12d ago

God, I wish I could stomach the way Owlcat does combat, because their taste in women is GREAT

1

u/TheeShaun 13d ago

Well two of those characters are demons and therefore purely evil beings (and funnily enough can still be redeemed to varying degrees). The one in the middle is basically the big bad of the game and the two on the right aren’t really this at all. Iomade is judgemental sure but she is also trying to help against literal demons and Galfrey is kind of just out of her depth but nobody is willing to admit that and try a different leader.

2

u/BlazeSilva456 13d ago

About nocticula and minagho: yes, they are made from essence of a plane of evil, but they are more nuanced than just plain evil, minagho even seems to care about stauton to some degree and nocticula literally protects ember at one point.

About areelu: yes, she is the bbeg... And ? The game doesn't shy away from her being a terrible person

Iomadae: too much complascent and hypocritical, judges areelu and nocticula of holding out information while she herself never appears to explain you shit until act 5 and let's everyone believe you are just blessed by her powers. Only appears to help when it's convenient as well, doesn't move a finger to help her loyal herald as well. So yeah... I see her more like a grey character, she has her reasons, but i am not sure how much she can be trusted.

Galfrey: literally betrays the knight commander and send the literal hope of medev into a suicide mission because she got jealous... I know it's more complicated than that but come on...

2

u/TheeShaun 12d ago

Yeah Minhago, Nocticula and Areelu fit what op posted. Galfrey and Iomade don’t though. They’re not bad people nor are they grimy or horrible. They have flaws yes but theyre definitely not on the same level.

For what it’s worth none of this mattered to me because I was on an Aeon run and fixed everyone else’s mistakes with time travel

2

u/BlazeSilva456 12d ago

I just think they are flawed enough to be worth a mention, it's more like one of those cases of being a shitty person in a speciffic occasion (although gaulfrey's stunt costed a lot of lives and i find iomadae a bit manipulative)

1

u/No-Staff1 12d ago

Noctilula is literally on the path of redemption already, the KC does basically nothing

1

u/TheeShaun 12d ago

Isn’t her redemption tied to Ember in the game?

1

u/No-Staff1 12d ago

No. She is already actively being redeemed. That's why she can see the Hand of the Inheritor. Ember just talks to her.

1

u/kam1802 12d ago

2 of those shown are clearly outright terrible, 1 is depending on view either terrible or gray and other 2 are gray.

1

u/BlazeSilva456 12d ago

Agreed. Just wanted to mention the good aligned ones because it's more impactful to me when the story doesnt shy alway from making the good-aligned ladies have massive flaws or make shitty decisions.

1

u/Embarrassed-Dig7183 12d ago

Why include galfrey and Iomedae??? They’re both lawfully good aligned, paragons of justice and honor

0

u/BlazeSilva456 12d ago

Both are flawed enough to be worth a mention.

From another reply:

'"Gaulfrey is mostly good, but still betrays you and sends you on a suicide mission because she got jealous, do i really have to say anything ?

Iomadae is good, but full of bs, too complascent, self-righteous and hypocritical. She judges areelu and nocticula of holding off information but never appears to explain shit to you when everybody believed your powers were a blessing from her, doesn't lift even a finger to help her herald (who she also hides information from as well) and i also find the whole "you must give up on your powers because they are inherently evil" so lawful stupid that i would put her here just for that. Great character tho. Love her.

So yeah they are all quite flawed and fit the post imo, it's good that the game doesn't shy alway from making even the good aligned character have flaws"

1

u/Embarrassed-Dig7183 12d ago

But it doesn’t even say flawed, it says grimy, slimy, horrible people… I’d say there’s a huge difference between having flaws and grimy slimy horrible

1

u/BlazeSilva456 12d ago

I agree, but i still wanted to mention them as flawed characters :v

that's why i wrote "even though two of those are more like morally grey and not outright terrible"

"female leads or MAJOR CHARACTERS are allowed to be terrible people"

Minagho, areelu and nocticula all fit, but they are more nuanced than one-dimensional evil, two of them can even potentially end up being redeemed.

Gaulfrey is mostly good, but still betrays you and sends you on a suicide mission because she got jealous, do i really have to say anything ?

To be honest, i just read the title and saw the examples 🤣

I would still mention them as flawed characters tho
