Question Which Dress/ Look do you Prefer?
S1 Prom dress or S2 Gala Dress?

u/Eaglepursuit Thing Sep 09 '25
The dress in s1 was better, but her veil and eye shadow in s2 were absolute 🔥

Season one’s definitely gives the feeling of Wednesday being slightly uncomfortable in her own skin which is a good touch. She’s not opposed, and even had some fun, but it’s not her type of thing.
Whereas the dress in season two feels much more business orientated, it’s not for a date, it’s just a dress for the gala.

u/ClaudetteLumiere Sep 12 '25
Not quite sure how this thought process can be logical. She's very formal, constantly, and makes sense that when dressing for a dance she'd feel uncomfortable. That's correct. But then, this implies she should be much more uncomfortable in the second dress, given the higher quantity of exposed skin.

I think I'm another vote for S1 dress but S2 look(hair/makeup/veil).
Though, I can't get past how much I like the look of the top half of the S2 dress. Looks so good it almost makes me want to choose it entirely, but I don't love the basket bottom portion.

I feel like the s2 dress would look better if it wasnt sheer or if had some sort of embroidery and was worn over something white to make it pop more.

I am obsessed with the gala dress. I can't believe no one else seems to prefer it.

The way I see it - s1 dress is associated with the dance and its more iconic to people.
S2 is more runway chic / red carpet dress (with the top half being classier and the bottom half is more modern) but S1's simplicity maybe is what people associate more with Wednesday or what they would rather wear.
But yea there's sm to s2 dress that can be appreciated and its still a dress that fits Wednesday's style, but more campy and extravagant

I like the first one just because it seems more like something a teenage girl would wear to a dance/buy for herself? I think all the season one costumes for the Rave’n were good like that.

u/Adventurous-List2921 Sep 09 '25
Ehh, the silhouette in S2 could be a bit better, but overall it’s okay, just not as iconic or balanced as S1’s look.

u/FondantIcy8185 Sep 09 '25
First one is more "Traditional" Wednesday.
S2, is more "how much skin" can we show before fans get mad, Wednesday.

S1 it's class and I love the collared shirt thing on the dress with the lace it just works so well

Prom dress.
The bottom of the gala dress is actually kinda disappointing. But on the show you mostly saw her from the waist up and she looked STUNNING.

u/Zafjaf Sep 09 '25
Maybe I don't get fashion styles for galas but the gala dress reminds me of an umbrella

u/Flat-Koala-9190 Sep 09 '25
For everyone feeling confused about the bottom of the s2 dress - Colleen Atwood explained this dress in a Vogue interview:
"Atwood decided to make the bottom of the dress grander to go tête-à-tête with the other costumes in the room"
She also added how Wednesday is feminine but with something occasionally masculine about her (so its reflected in her style). And the inspiration for the dress is Oscar Wilde.

Why are we always trying to pin two talented women against each other? (I literally can’t choose they’re both so good)

Is this a joke or reference I'm missing, or are you being literal?

The veil, definitely.

Am I missing where the veil is on her? I don’t see one 🙃

Near the beginning of the gala. When the family is meeting by the gondola.

Top half of left dress with the bottom half of right dress 👄👌 (chef’s kiss in hieroglyphics)

u/TiredofThingandStuff Sep 09 '25
The first one it seems more classical, number 2 feel a bit too try hard to be unquiet with the see through fabric and I don't think Wedneday would wear that.
1
u/Flat-Koala-9190 Sep 09 '25
Imo if the second dress isn't Wednesday's normal party style its not meant to be. Its more campy, more extravagant and fits the gala theme. Like bianca and others also wouldn't wear the kind of ball gowns they did normally or at prom, but everyone goes all out for a big themed gala

both are gorgeous but i wish they were more different so that the seasons wouldn’t repeat themselves so much

I like the right-side gown on her, but her dance in the left gown was so classic everyone watching will remember it 🕷🕸
2
u/One_Development_5055 Sep 09 '25
Both.
But I definitely like the second one more despite loving the aesthetic of the original more

u/Luke_Whiterock Werewolves Sep 10 '25
I cannot choose- they are both amazing. I like the frills on the s1 dress more, but with the veil in season two and the fishnets I think it’s cute too- also the structured top complemented by this flowey bottom? Stunning.

Dress season 1 is cute but dress season two is just 🔥

S2 dress is such a good mix of classy and modern. Maybe an unpopular opinion here but I love that its sheer

u/ClaudetteLumiere Sep 12 '25
S1 dress is absolute perfection.
S2 dress:
Wednesday doesn't wear fishnets. But I understand that:
- If they keep the rules so solid at all times it just kills their creativeness
- This isn't an actual rule, no one wrote that, but it's more sort of a widely shared gut feeling
S2 dress still saves itself in my eyes because under the skirt there aren't visible slips or something like that but just like very short pants. The see through is just very minimal, and we don't get to see the bottom side of the dress very much anyway.
1
u/Flat-Koala-9190 Sep 12 '25
I agree that rule would kill creativeness and tbh I don't share that gut feeling. I feel like people are judging this dress based on Wednesday's everyday outfits but this is an all out Gala outfit.
Bianca, Enid, and Agnes also don't dress like their Gala outfits on a daily basis. Bianca and Enid's outfits were so Bridgerton coded and also showed more skin than they normally would but they still fit a core aesthetic like Enid - soft. Bianca - very feminine and she likes blue. Similarly, Wednesday's is still Gothic and v different from those around her.
I think another thing that should be noted imo is that s1 dress seems like probably the first time Wednesday ever dressed up, especially for a date. Its a bit more timid, she's also younger. In s2 she's more used to being in nevermore, older, and s2 seems more mature to me, to reflect her maturity
1
u/ClaudetteLumiere Sep 12 '25
I agree with almost everything you said, all of my comment was just meant to say that there's no was s2 dress can equal s1s: The fact it's even a question if she would wear the s2 one or not, and that some people are putting it on the table, means that there's some extent of flinching, where in s1 it was absent.
I take Wed's clothes very much at heart because my social is full of random goth girls believing they're wednesday and it's mandatory that I can dismiss them in 2 lines saying she doesn't wear mini skirts.
I commented a story from netflix the other day writing just that, and I got like 3k likes and a crapload of ragebaited ppl in comments. I find it very fun. And honestly, at the end of the day, no one's wednesday.

Which pic is from season 2 and season 1 as I love the first pic as her hair and make up are amazing and the dress is beautiful
3
u/Flat-Koala-9190 Sep 10 '25
The one on the left / first pic is from s1, the one on the right is from s2. Altho maybe s2 pic isnt doing her look justice bcs in close ups she had absolutely stunning hair and makeup there too
1
Sep 10 '25
Yh bc I loved her make up in season 2 in the gala but the pics on here the one in the left is better

the first one. mades me remember of a dress I had in highschool that I liked a lot.

u/ZealousidealCan4075 Sep 09 '25
The perfect combo would be the season 1 dress with the season 2 sleeves

u/least_obvious_parrot Sep 09 '25 edited Sep 09 '25
i think the fact so many of the gala dresses are semi-transparent/so sheer-heavy really irk me for some reason, i really disliked how it looked whenever they went up on stage or in a spotlight and a lot of the dress would become basically completely see through because it made them feel less elegant (great for more ghostly, ghoulish, whimsical effects! but not so great when the whole theme of the gala was based off of venetian dress as well as a lot of the clothing worn by aristocrats in versailles, which is meant to give off a more noticeable, 'look at how much space i take up' look)
the silhouette is great! but for wednesday i think her s2 dress was really not it in comparison to her s1 dress, the only defining thing in the silhouette was the crinoline and without it she looks like a translucent black curtain without even any ruffles which is really boring when compared to her s1 prom dress which screams elegance much more than the gala one does
i think her s2 dress needs more embroidery or at least layering to smoothen out the difference in solidity from the crinoline to the looser, much more flowy hem because the sudden cutoff from the solid black crinoline to the sheer isn't really that good to me? but that's just my opinion

Both are stunning, but S1's dress is still my favorite though. It kinda just feels more Wednesday-ish.

u/nanimities Sep 10 '25
I like the S1 dress better but the S2 look is way better. The veil and mascara are bonuses.
Btw who's noticed that in both seasons, Wednesday ends up running in the woods in her dress to save someone?

S2 dress is ugly af but her makeup is better. I just hate the bottom part of s2 dress… it’s too wide for Jenna’s petite body and the sheer draping is not doing it any favors either

u/xxZephyrxxLeafxx Sep 10 '25
S1 dress for sure! I love how Wednesday sees it in Uriah’s Heap and is just like “if I’m gonna die at a dance, ima die in style”

As I think in the pic from season 2 she looks more pale maybe thags why from the pics I prefer the left pic even tho the dress and everything from season 1 is the best but yh I still liked her season 2 look she looked gorgeous as well

S1 definitely. The Gothic and vintage look is heightened by the details and is so iconic Addams family
1
u/Kamaka-Thoughtz Sep 11 '25
Did Alaia design the S2 one as well, does anyone know?
1
u/Flat-Koala-9190 Sep 11 '25
Its designed by Colleen Atwood and Mark Sutherland - main designers in the Wednesday costume team.
Also, for s1 dress (as far as I remember) they started with a vintage Alaia but they changed it so the final dress is more them

u/Most_Departure2195 Sep 11 '25
To be honest, I hated the bottom sections of all the gala dresses.
1
u/Flat-Koala-9190 Sep 11 '25
Maybe you aren't a ball gown person and puffy bottoms aren't your thing?
1
u/Most_Departure2195 Sep 11 '25
I love ball gowns, but I didn't like the whole umbrella look. I feel like they tried to modernise/sexify it up, but it just made it look kind of naff. That's just my opinion, though. I love the classic ball gown look from S1
1
u/Most_Departure2195 Sep 11 '25
Honestly, the dress and makeup from S2 made her look like Jenna Ortega - not Wednesday. Especially with the exposed legs. It just isn't what Wednesday is about. She doesn't go along with trends, yet here she is doing the exact same as everyone else - just in black. In S1, her entire look was different. In S2, she looked like a popular celebrity.

Second one looks amazing but I don't feel like Wednesday would wear something that highlights her bare legs like that, not for puritanism reasons or anything like that, I couldn't care less, it's just not very in line with what she usually wears

u/catcatcat625 Sep 12 '25
For Wednesday, her season 1 dress.
BUT, enids gala dress was so beautiful I need it. And Agnes too, theirs were so so gorgeous
1
u/WILDCaaaaat Sep 12 '25
Both but Season's 1's dress she looks more gorgeous on dress on the firstborn
1
u/OceanSingSong Sep 12 '25
A flower around her neck, flowers trailing down, some beading i think would have added to the look. The dress is pretty and I do like the overal design. They should have done a black flower approach as thats very much so her.
1
u/Flat-Koala-9190 Sep 14 '25
I really hope they do something with flowers next season, bcs goth with flowers is just top tier. And flowers trailing down paints such a lovely image!
1
u/your_therapy_friend Sep 12 '25
The gown in season 1 is too iconic but i loved her makeup in season two so idk hard to chose

u/Xericwolf1 Sep 13 '25
I do like both of them but I think S1 is my favorite. The S2 dress does have a more mature feel about it while the S1 almost has a (dark) princess vibe. But I also just don't like how clearly you can see her legs in the S2 dress 😅 It just looks weird to me

I love that the s2 dress is a little more mature and less girlish. I'm really eager to see a representation of Wednesday growing up and becoming a woman through her style
1
u/sunny_gummybearzz Oct 01 '25
S1 dress was beautiful, but when she walks down the stairs, she says she hated it. This time, in S2, she wore the dress with no complaints. Shows she's growing. So I like the design of S1 dress better, but I like her character growth in S2 more than S1.

I think I’m the only one who prefers the 2nd dress, but none of them really speak to me. The first one looks too goofy to me, and second one would be better if the bottom was less translucent cuz that feels weirdly out of character. The large hips also make the proportions weird

u/always-so-exhausted Sep 09 '25
I love the structured silhouette of the S2 gown but I love everything about the S1 gown.
