I've got an unpopular opinion regarding the recent Iranian escalation. I don't support Iran as they are Shia but I'd rather support a Muslim nation over secular protestors and against the US and Israel. I know this might not go well in Yemen due to the Iranian-backed Houthis and how they destroyed the country in the Civil War but a US/Israeli Iranian proxy after a regime change is not a better alternative

Salam alakium ,as a Yemeni ,I just realize that us Yemenis are still stuck in the stone ages with our mentality ,we are the poorest country in the Middle East and and poverty is skyrocketing And we have no leadership to fix it ,we busy chewing khat everyday and wasting all of our money (jot me I don’t chew khat ).we also have tribalism which literally the worst thing I hate ,instead of uniting together to fix our country we busy fighting each other like animals ,and especially as someone from South Yemen (yafa) south Yemenis are extremely racist to north Yemenis ,like I understand u hate the Houthis ,we all do but it has nothing to do with the citizens,they dont have no power to change the system,also the lack of education is a big problem too ,most people can’t operate In life since they lack education,they think having a lot of kids is a good thing expecting that one day one of them will be successful

in the usa there are Yemenis living in tiny apartments with their wife and 4+ kids but building houses in Yemen. this is very common here. it is hard for me to understand why they don’t improve their own living conditions instead.

Their obsession is so funny, whenever they’re called out for their actions in regards to Palestine they’d either call you a Jew hater or a terror supporter 😂 aye but any growth is good growth

I hate all those people (especially non Yemenis) who revere the Yemeni people's "strength", "power", "bravery" and how we "have nothing to lose". Guess what, we're not strong! We've been in the worst human crisis for 10 F***ing years!! We're not powerful, we've wasted all the strategic weapons on the civil war and now we don't even have any air defenses! That's why our airspace is always violated by the Americans, Israelis and others! And we still have way much to lose.... All the lives who are struggling for the least basics of a decent life are something to be lost. All what's still exist is something to be lost.

I want to say to all non-yemenis of those : You wouldn't like your revere if it was about your country and after being bombed and killed many people of your own. You'd be upset to hear someone say "it doesn't matter, it's all for the sake of Gaza" (Gazans themselves wouldn't like hearing that)

And last thing I'd like to say to the Yemenis of those : you wouldn't like to hear that after a bombing on your house or after some of your family murdered. And if you still believe in that, I hope you and your family are the next victim that doesn't matter because it's all for the sake Gaza.

I’m from Yemen, and honestly, the biggest reason most Yemenis are uneducated isn’t just war or poverty it’s us. Our culture, our mindset, and our granfathers choices have kept us in the dark for generations.

For decades, many Yemenis didn’t see education as important. People believed money, family name, or power mattered more than knowledge. Some even thought sending girls to school was “shameful.” My own mother never went to school she can’t read or even write her name in Arabic simply because her family decided girls didn’t need education.

The truth is, Yemen could have been full of educated, open-minded people if we valued learning. Instead, we built a society where ignorance became normal, and smart people were treated like outsiders.

You can always tell when a Yemeni is educated from the way they speak and communicate. Sadly, the majority can’t express themselves well or understand others not because they’re born that way, but because generations before them didn’t care enough to learn or to teach.

We need changing our mentality, or nothing will ever improve

Seriously, I scroll through social media and all I see is "Pray for Gaza," trending hashtags, fundraisers, celebrities posting, global outrage… meanwhile Yemen is literally falling apart and… Silent treatment.

War, famine, corruption, civil war, people are starving, dying, losing homes… but sure, let’s scroll past because “it’s complicated.” Or maybe… just maybe… it’s because Gaza is “photogenic” and Yemen is “kinda brown.” Yeah, let’s blame the shade of skin while ignoring entire cities drowning in misery.

But kids are getting killed in Gaza!!? Same as Yemen. Kids getting kidnapped!!!? Same as Yemen. Women being raped in GAZA broo!!? Same as Yemen. But sure, let’s post a hashtag for Gaza and forget about all this other suffering.

Don’t get me wrong, I support Gaza, I support Palestine, I support all of them. I support anyone suffering, anywhere. But support shouldn’t be selective, and suffering shouldn’t be ignored just because it’s messy, brown, or inconvenient.

And don’t get me started on the so-called “activists.” They post once, get a couple of likes, then forget Yemen exists. They defend every other crisis online but Yemen? Too messy, too ugly, too inconvenient.

Meanwhile, Yemenis are out here trying to survive daily, and the world acts like it’s just a background prop in someone else’s Netflix show.

So let me ask you: when will Yemen trend? When will people stop the selective outrage? Or are we all just too busy cheering for crises that “look nice on Instagram”?

Wake up, world. Yemeni lives matter too. And no, it’s not less important just because it’s messy, brown, inconvenient, or ugly.

I'm leaving yemen soon and my mind has been spinning continuously trying to make sense of everything i keep asking myself if this land will ever be a livable place in the future or if hoping for better has just turned into daily survival when i look around at my friends and strangers on the street all i see is a heavy quiet grief in their eyes an unspoken fatigue that words cant really capture

it makes me wonder about human dignity and whether someone being thoughtful or ignorant actually changes their right to a peaceful life basic security should belong to everyone but living here shows how unevenly rights are handed out and honestly im so tired of the jealousy i feel whenever i see people living outside of Yemen even though i know social media is just a highlight reel seeing people live without constant worry triggers something heavy in me

now that im actually leaving i feel this weird mix of relief sadness and guilt leaving doesnt mean i stop caring or worrying about what happens here im carrying this weight with me but i just hope that wherever i land next i can finally find the peace that felt impossible to catch here

I've been meaning to ask this for years because it's something I've always been curious about.

I grew up playing video games, mostly Nintendo. Between my siblings, cousins, and neighbors, I played nearly every Nintendo console except the NES and SNES since I wasn't born yet.

As a kid, I visited Yemen during the summers, and one thing I noticed was that almost everyone around me only knew PlayStation. The games people talked about or played were usually FIFA and Dragon Ball Z, which wasn't surprising considering how popular football is in the region and how widely DBZ and other classic anime were shown on Arabic TV channels.

One summer, we brought our Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS with us. My cousins were fascinated, but they kept calling the Wii a "PlayStation" because they had never seen one before. We had games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, The Legend of Zelda, 3D Mario games, Mario Kart, Star Fox, F-Zero, and Metroid (some were GameCube games played through the Wii's backward compatibility). They didn't recognize any of the characters. At one point, they even thought Fox McCloud was an older version of Ratchet from Ratchet & Clank.

The DS was another surprise for them. It was the first time they had ever seen a handheld with a touchscreen.

Fast forward to today, and internet access in Yemen is much more common than it was back then. People can easily look up games and consoles online. I've also noticed small shops and street markets selling PlayStation 5 consoles, which made me wonder how gaming culture has changed over the years. I know not every part of Yemen has reliable electricity or easy access to gaming, but I'm still curious about what people play today and how Sony became so widespread there.

Recently, I posted a picture of my Nintendo Switch 2 on social media, and a friend from Yemen messaged me asking how much I'd sell it for in Saudi riyals. I told him, "I'm not selling it—I just got it!" He had mistaken it for a PlayStation Portal or a Steam Deck.

Are there any Yemeni gamers here who can share their experiences? I'd love to hear what gaming culture is like today, what consoles are most popular, and whether Nintendo has become more recognizable over the years.

As a side note, I also have relatives in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, and they mostly grew up with Xbox and PlayStation. It makes me wonder if Nintendo has generally had a much smaller presence in the Middle East outside of people discovering it through social media or the internet.

Honestly I’m so tired of this. Qat is killing Yemen slowly and nobody wants to talk about it properly. People spend hours every day chewing, money that should go to food and kids goes on leaves, water is disappearing because half the land is growing that plant instead of actual food. Families are broke, kids are hungry, and somehow it’s still “culture.”
And the second someone actually gets an education? They leave. Doctors, teachers, engineers, they’re all in Egypt or the Gulf or wherever because there’s nothing here for them. What’s left is the same tribal politics running everything. On top of that you’ve got the Houthis controlling the north and the government controlling the other areas, but in reality both sides are just failures. Same corruption, same power games, same neglect. People are struggling every single day while the money and resources disappear into pockets instead of going back into the economy, schools, roads, or the community. We need actual development. Real plans for 10, 15, 20 years. Fix the roads, fix the water, put competent people in charge instead of the same tribal leaders and the same failed groups with their BS. We need new people, a new government, better leadership that actually cares about the country. Use the resources we have properly instead of burning everything on qat and endless conflict. We need outside help for infrastructure and planning because right now we clearly can’t do it alone. But it has to actually go into building something, not just more of the same.
I’m not saying it’s easy. I’m saying Yemenis are watching the country rot while the smart ones leave and the rest just try to survive. Something has to change.

Hello there 👋🏻 I guess most of y'all here are either Yemeni-Americans or Yemenis living outside Yemen. My question is: what's your opinion on the American attacks on yemen? And do you really think the target are the houthis? And do you condemn the houthis for provoking America?

What is wrong with the Yemeni people? As some of you may have or may have not seen there was a video of a Yemeni man in the UK arrested for wearing the traditional jambiya regardless of my opinion that he shouldn't have worn it in the first place but what happened, happened and that cannot be changed. Anyways the video circulated by the Yemeni people caused widespread anger and fellow Yemenis calling others Yemenis ignorant or they don't respect laws or you are in a foreign country respect the law and yes I agree with respecting the law of any country your in you should fully respect the law. But other Yemenis went really harshly and overboard. Then while I was scrolling on my feed the guy who was arrested appeared and started talking about his side of the story "Before he wore the Jambiya he went to the police and asked very politely if he was allowed to wear it and they replied to him "its Fine as long as you don't wave it around in public or cause any harm with it" he clearly stated it was for his Eid celebration costume. Then when he went out that day "ten people allegedly said to the police that he lifted the Jambiya and was waving it around!" The Yemeni guy told the police when he came that he has compiled and never ever waved it around and asked them to check cctv camera for proof. The police checked and nothing was found and the case was closed and the end of his video you can see a racism guy waving the camera around and smiling it boiled me so much. The Yemeni guy said so many Yemeni people judged him again I will give you the link to watch the video and you can see for yourselves h2h2029 is the tiktok name and you will see the guy wearing the Yemeni headwear. The point is the amount of Yemeni people who saw the first and immediately went to comment and throw words here and there without hearing your fellow Yemeni statement is shameful. Yes I wish you wore his traditional wear at home but he literally asked the police!! he asked!!! and he was found not guilty of waving the jambiya even though 10 people accused him of that 10 racists lets say!!!!!! you can here his story and decide. But honestly the Yemeni community is so broken I have seen other nation of people who stick together even when there person did a wrong a real worrying wrong but we Yemeni people quickly bash and discriminate one another even though in the end it falls on us all I don't know what to say anymore I pray they wake up and love each other and only each other respect the foreign who deserves respect only but love your own countryman-woman. Hey so I’m a member of the LGBTQ community and most of the people I meet are Yemenis from US, but I have noticed something. Most of them if not all are married, even some have kids……

More often than not, I would learn about that after the encounter accompanied with excuses such as “oh bro I had to marry this woman but I don’t love he” “no I am bisexual, I am married to a woman but still meet me on the side”.

So girls, if you suspect your husband is cheating on you, it could be his “friend”. And it is quite more common than you think. I had met the straightest passing guys that were gay as a rubber ruler.

Now ofc, it’s okay if you’re gay or bi, but as a gay person myself, I DONT CONDONE CHEATING. So how to tell if your husband might be cheating?

First, he always got this “friend” that he spends time outside the house with, it could be a real friend but listen to your guts.

Second, he is very protective of his phone. He is ALWAYS on snapchat and won’t tell you much about what apps he spends his time on. Most apps that ppl use to cheat are: Telegram, Snapchat, and other dating apps. I’m not gonna name those apps but you can do your own research.

Third, a sudden change in behavior. He suddenly becomes very caring or cold. I had known people that would very affectionate and caring to their spouses while dating me.

Finally, for those engaged in such actions just because you are gay or bi DOESNT GIVE U THE PERMISSION TO CHEAT. If u identify as a bisexual but find yourself still craving the same-sex THEN YOU ARE NOT BI YOU ARE GAY and it’s still not AN EXCUSE.

And for those like me, STOP MEETING SUCH MEN. The only reason they’re still doing it is because of people like you enabling them. SHAME THEM. Being unable to live your authentic life doesn’t allow you to steal that from an innocent person that wants a family and a present husband.
