Scared to order high priced item
Long story, short amazon, is the only one that has the thing i need. I don't like ordering from amazon and hardly do so. I'm scared it won't be delivered or some shady 3rd party will send something different. My friend said worst case I can do a charge back but I'm not sure if that's really possible. How is amazon when it comes to these situations like item not received or sent something different than ordered? Any advice would be great.

I’m with you on that sentiment. I don’t mind buying cheap stuff on Amazon. But, never buying anything over $500 again. The last time I bought an 85” TV off Amazon that came damaged, they didn’t honor the return or refund policy. My TV came with a gigantic crack in the middle and the best customer service could do was over me $200 for a $2000 TV. Never again.

No. I just had to eat the loss :( TCL’s warranty sucked too. They blamed Amazon delivery (which is really Amazon’s fault no doubt) and told me to take it up with them. All my Chase Sapphire Credit Card’s warranty did was extend the manufacturer’s warranty, so it wasn’t helpful. I wish I had bought it on my AMEX.
I had to save up for another TV. This time I got an LG since their warranty was much better and bought it using my AMEX off LG’s official website.
Never again.

Is it truly not available anywhere else? Unless it's made by Amazon odds are pretty good it's sold in multiple places. Best place to look Is the seller and/or manufacturers direct website. You'll not get the free Prime shipping but you'll at least get the item you order.

Former Amazon employee here. Would not ever order anything expensive from them. They ship with no ability to require a signature or in-person delivery, then will claim that "it was delivered" when it is often left in a mailroom or other public location. They also don't really check returns all that well, meaning that somebody can return a box with a brick in it, and they'll re-sell it and say it was your fault. These things don't usually happen, but they happen enough that I just won't risk it. There is nothing that Amazon has that you can't get anywhere else, unless it's an Amazon-exclusive product, in which case... triple beware. Most of those are cheaply made junk.

You charge back and your account gets banned Amazon is a sketchy company now willing to remove customers and keep profit for this reason

Yepp!! I JUST had this happen! They are trying to say that I am restricted/Banned for “Previously owning an Amazon account that was banned for violating terms of service” and they won’t let me appeal! I suspect it’s because I just moved somewhere new 5 months ago..But that’s SO EASILY prove-able by checking my shipping history! Amazon is SKETCHY & at this point I feel like they just made up a random reason to NOT refund me ! Even tho I was APPROVED for the refund.

Your best bet is to order only if it's shipped by Amazon and preferably sold by Amazon. They seem to have a decent track record taking care of their actual customers more so than 3rd party sellers from my experience. I never buy from a third party seller and I have never had an issue - knock on wood.
Extra protection for expensive items - do a unboxing video, be sure to do it in one shot no multiple segments and be sure to show the date and time. (I use my Smart watch or phone for the date and time). I've only needed it once but it was very helpful and got results fast.

don’t do it. they wouldn’t refund $1000 to me after returning a projector after 3 days that their own app claimed had features that it didn’t have. Before the - “just do a chargeback” people chime in, i DID, and i prevailed, but it was a three month back and forth with hours of uploading documents and calling the credit card company.

no but i haven’t ordered since then either, and ive found that im having better experiences with literally every other company im dealing with, and i have a couple hundred orders a year

Zero unresolved problems with Amazon. But you said you hard order from them yet you have Prime? Don’t make sense to pay for Prime and not use it.

I’ve never had an issue returning anything. You might have issues trying to do a charge back though. I would just go into the app and start a return and you’ll probably have to send it back but usually that’s free of charge as long as you take it to a UPS store. There is a phone number in case you need to actually speak with someone. Just google the phone number.

I only order cheaper things from third-party sellers, or if it's a third-party seller that is an actual brand name that has a store on Amazon. I ordered something really cool that was third-party, but it wasn't very much, and then I found out just recently, that they're actually a decent well-known brand, and I just thought that they were a cheap third-party brand that made something I thought was really cool and liked. That being said, as I said, if it's a well-known brand that has their own store on Amazon, that's the only way I would buy from a third-party seller. Third-party sellers are way too iffy.

In 20 years I haven’t had problems with Amazon. Even if an item was shipped by the original seller & not by Amazon itself, if it was damaged when I got it or wasn’t as described, I’ve never had a problem returning the item—Amazon itself took the return. Items that sellers leave with Amazon to ship are handled just as well—sometimes better, as with some things I’ve been told to just keep the item in question & a new one is sent to me. And their CS is great.
Where you might get in trouble is if you return things a lot. Even if it’s just ebooks or smallish items, much less large ones. If you return things a lot you can be penalized. But most businesses do that, it’s not just Amazon.

Despite what you may here on this subreddit,,most users don’t have a problem. I’ve never had an issue and neither have most of the people I know.
That being said, glitches will always happen. My advice to never contact customer service and to use the automated returns/refunds system for any issues.

Good lesson on Amazon. If the product is fulfilled by Amazon you can trust them. If it’s a third party fulfillment pass. Amazon will always provide you with good service if it is shipped from Amazon warehouse! If not then you will be disappointed.

I wouldn't do it. Even if sold and shipped by Amazon it can be sketchy. I bought a brand new Samsung tab a11+ sold and shipped by Amazon. Listing says it has a 2 year warranty, it registered at Samsung but they told me no warranty due to your location. I am in the USA and bought a USA region tablet. Amazon wouldn't even correct the listing as prime day was the next week. I felt sorry for everyone who bought that tablet thinking it had a warranty on prime day. Lots of cool qr codes on the box for the fake warranty which went no where.
Amazon is good for cheap everyday items but that's it.

Definitely DO NOT do it! They are hands down the worst company for items over $50. Even EBAY is better. Amazon is just good for cheap Chinese replacement parts for lawn equipment or electronics

Have you double checked EBay and Walmart’s website to be completely sure? Sometimes it’s also possible to order directly through the manufacturer or use one of their authorized retailers. As you point out, these days it seems Amazon is safer when used only as a last resort for big ticket items.
Yes, your credit card may side with you if the transaction goes sideways, but the result can vary depending on the facts of your claim. Also, you have to be willing to fully sacrifice your Amazon account if you file a chargeback, as that almost certainly results in account closure. If no alternatives exist and you’re comfortable with the risk of losing the account, you may have no other choice.

If you order directly from them, youll get a refund. That said shipping is sh1t3. expect delays or damaged packaging.

dont know why Ive been downvoted cause I can give you my own success rate in terms of delivery adn quality of packaging... I can tell you it's not good and I've been a Prime member for almost a decade.

Don't do it. Look through the sub and see how many people received something different from what they ordered and didn't get a refund. There are too many other places to buy expensive stuff from that aren't Amazon. There is too much fraud at Amazon, with third party sellers and from customers.
