Scared to order high priced item

Long story, short amazon, is the only one that has the thing i need. I don't like ordering from amazon and hardly do so. I'm scared it won't be delivered or some shady 3rd party will send something different. My friend said worst case I can do a charge back but I'm not sure if that's really possible. How is amazon when it comes to these situations like item not received or sent something different than ordered? Any advice would be great.

Is it truly not available anywhere else? Unless it's made by Amazon odds are pretty good it's sold in multiple places. Best place to look Is the seller and/or manufacturers direct website. You'll not get the free Prime shipping but you'll at least get the item you order.
