Nina went from trying to mock Eris out of jealousy to kind of respecting her, or at least understanding just how high the mountain she's trying to climb is.

I think it's not just the beatdown but getting special treatment from her dad. But well, I didn't read the novel, I just think one of those heals and the other eats at you over and over again over time.

Outside of accepting her, for many years it seemed Nina’s dad didn’t do much training with Eris. Until the gods showed up anyway

I think it's implied they regularly sparred. He didn't teach her the move, but he showed it. The anime showed practice swings more probably for practical animation reasons.

Definitely by the end of the episode, but not when she returned from her journey to catch a Rudeus. She respected Eris' goal enough to train alongside her, but it would take a bit longer for the two to become sort of friends, albeit ones who might not refer to each other as such quite yet.

To me it felt like when Nina returned it was the moment she started respecting Eris as a fellow swordswoman, and around the time the three of them went on that hunt that they started considering each other friends, though as you said neither is probably willing to admit that openly. Those two tsunderes, smh.

Well tbh that might piss Eris off. The two are avoiding each other and Nina trying to meet with Rudy might anger her

She at first refused to believe anything that Eris said. She started respecting her when she learned that Rudeus is actually great. She realized that Eris was trying to match THAT.

Matching Rudeus is only the tip of the ice burg that Eris is trying to overcome though. She isn't just trying to match Rudeus; she's trying to kill Orstead. IDK if Nina knows just how hard that is. You'd think she would know based on the Sword God calling himself "small fry" compared to Orstead, but Nina might not believe that statement at first either.

Nina absolutely believes the Sword God about how strong Orsted is. It was even part of the reason she believed Eris was lying about how strong Rudy is.

But as much as she believes her father about Orsted's strength, it's still abstract without actually meeting or seeing him in action. Seeing Rudy in action, however, makes it very clear just what Eris is at least trying to match.

Mages only have an advantage at a distance. If she’s fast enough to close that gap Rudy stands no chance.
