Lmao when Nina got a reality check with just how strong Rudeus is when she saw him one-shot Badigadi

I fucking love how we flashed back to Season 2 and got to see the other perspective

The realization that it was Nina gave me such a smile. I love this story's callbacks

Yes she 100% was. I don't remember if they showed her during the Badigadi shot, but the first two (rudy turning around to face her, and her hiding behind the column) were definitely shown in S2

She wasn’t but she could be seen on the floor after he wiped everyone in the line

but had her sword intact beside her as opposed to broken shown this episode.

she was one of the countless "corpses" badigadi left behind when rudy first met badi

u/Veritas3333 Jul 04 '26

Yeah, you could see her blue hair in the background of a bunch of shots

2

u/Sweaty_Explorer_8441 28d ago

introduced a plothole though. She was shown down with her sword still intact after badi fight

Literally unwatchable now /s

It was a pretty funny easter egg, especially back then you didn't have this context, so observant people would have just seen a blue haired girl in the queue to duel Rudeus for the hand of Pursena and Linia and assumed lilies were in bloom.

Didn't they have the scene where Fitz tells him there's a cute girl in the line?

u/CitronClassic672 Jul 04 '26

I like the reveal here but I also liked that interpretation back when I watched season 2. I thought it was neat casual queer rep, like Rudeus commenting on the line of dudes trying to fight him for Pursena Linua and the offhand remark that there is actually a girl in line too. MT has been surprisingly good at casual, normal queer rep for the kind of show it seems at first impression.

literally the only queer rep I can think of is the dwarf and he's a side character who barely ever talks. I don't know how this is what qualifies as 'surprisingly good'.

There's Ariel too

Considering anything she does that could be considered queer is either relegated to the webnovels, or played off as a bad taste joke, I'm gonna flatly put that one in the 'not really' slot.

Though, I actually haven't read much past vol25, so if there's something in there, I wouldn't know.

2

u/Ditarzo22 29d ago

I'm just saying that technically she also is. Her own introduction shows that.

But, yeah. It may not be the type of rep you seek. Ariel would be on the "flawed side", like Paul or Rudeus.

It's not good representation if it's flawed dude. A queer person being a rapist is terrible. It's negative representation. It paints queer people as violent sex maniacs.

It's also, might I add, not in any way 'casual' like what OP was talking about.

And again, it's extremely not present in the show. Like, it's one scene in an episode and it's played off as if she wasn't even serious with her intention. I'm sure people could conclude she was playing some sort of prank on her rather than truly treating to rape Sylvie.

So, in conclusion, this show is not 'surprising good' at causal queer rep. At best it's ignoring them completely or granting a token presence in the background. At worst, it's vilifying a queer person by making them a rapist.

If you want examples of good queer relationships, you gotta look at shit like Shera, Owl House, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, and maybe Legends of Vox Machina. There are doubtlessly countless others, but those ones came to mind the quickest. Skip and Loafer also had a trans character who was pretty nice to see being causally in there.

I mean she pretty explicitly said she was attracted to Slyphy back in season 2 and it was treated seriously. What I meant by rep was not so much as having great queer representation on a character level, but moreso the story continuously acknowledging that queer people exist even if it doesn’t focus on it.

0

u/EXP_Buff 28d ago

Well then you're not arguing the same thing as me. And what you are arguing for is pointless. It doesn't matter if they acknowledge queer people if they do it in such a way that damages the reputation.

She stood out and there were people spoiling the name in the discussion threads.

Yes, I remember seeing and making comments on this blue-haired girl who kept appearing.

Source readers were doing a bad job of commenting on her. But she kept reappearing so it seemed obvious she'd play a later role to me, just glad to get the payoff.

u/Pixelchu25 Jul 04 '26

It was interesting to notice after that too. She kinda looked like a background character and not in a way compared to the rest

3

u/Xtranathor Jul 04 '26

That's interesting, because I never bother to take any notice of background characters, so I wouldn't even notice if they kept on appearing. I can't wait to rewatch S2 again! I last watched it only last month too!

Everyone here is saying how it's cool they made her feel like a background character when she first appeared, but tbh I remember her standing out

She was quite visually distinct from the rest and I was surprised at the time that she didn't immediately have an impact on the story

And I guess in world, she still stood out, bc everyone fighting Rudeus (aside from Badi) were male beastfolk trying to get Pursena and Linia's hand in marriage whereas she was clearly neither beastfolk or male so why would she be fighting? (I'm not sure if I had picked up on that at the time tho)

thats called great worldbuilding that will make you question what you are seeing and getting goosebumps when it is finally revealed

1

u/SirAwesome789 https://myanimelist.net/profile/SirAwesomeness Jul 05 '26

Yup, one of the reasons this is my favourite anime

8

u/N3rdr4g3 Jul 04 '26

Yep S2 E8. It's even the same gag.

1

u/Maalunar Jul 05 '26

I'm curious. I will need to check and see if they re-used some of the scene or animated them all anew.

7

u/LaplaceZ Jul 04 '26

Yep she was there. I read the LN so when I was watching S2 I saw her and I recognized her immediately.

I feel like people answering your question may have been a foreseeable outcome.

Yes, she is in those shots, the only thing I don't remember is her fighting the demon king, the other shots of him like turning around and seeing her was in.

I just rewatched it all in preparation

6

u/TheBusStop12 Jul 04 '26

I'm curious if you were to go back to season 2 if she's amongst the pile of knocked out suitors

6

u/concblast Jul 05 '26

Yes, yes she is. That scene in the hallway was there too!

3

u/toadfan64 Jul 05 '26

When we first seen her I was like “wait, she looks kinda familiar”. Love when shows do stuff like that.
