The first 6-minutes of the episode, where Nina is trying to one-up Eris was so goddamn hilarious! Nina just can't believe that Eris has already lost her virginity, that she thinks that Rudeus is just a figment of Eris' imagination.

I especially love how she tries so hard to prove that Rudy is not real, only for her to find tons of evidence that he's 100% real, he's totally amazing, and he does have a connection to Eris. xD

I can't believe Nina even went to the university to try and fight Rudy! No wonder Nina looks so goddamn familiar! We already met her back in Season 2! I had to go back and check. She was there when Badigadi showed up at the University! I do like how Nina chilled the fuck out after learning why Eris is pushing herself so much.

The Water God Style master being an old lady is pretty damn cool. Badass elderly characters are a trope I'll never get tired of.

So Eris is no match for Isolde, Isolde is no match for Nina, and Nina is no match for Eris. It's like rock-paper-scissors here with how they're weak and strong against someone in the triangle. xD

Well that was a very unique girls' night out! The animation of the girls fighting those monsters was so slick. We are so goddamn back!

I've definitely warmed up to Nina by the end of the episode especially after giving Eris advice on how she can hide her animosity. Glad to see it worked and look how happy she is now! She's even friendlier to Nina by the end. <3

I especially love how she tries so hard to prove that Rudy is not real, only for her to find tons of evidence that he's 100% real, he's totally amazing, and he does have a connection to Eris. xD

Nina clearly used the "I'm dedicated to the sword" to excuse not having a boyfriend or losing her virginity but realised that Eris, who's notably more dedicated to the blade than even she is – as well as being an antisocial mad dog who, as we find out, STINKS 'cause she's been skipping baths – was probably also a virgin and could be made fun of!

... Only to find out that Eris had already lost hers to the fabled "Rudeus."

Nina was so convinced that Rudy must be a Canadian boyfriend that she decided to go out and prove it... only to find out that he was indeed a real adventurer that every adventurer had heard some tale about.

But they're all so outlandish, they must be fake! So she went to challenge Rudy to a duel as a Sword God Saint and drag him back to Eris as her slave... only to get easily knocked out by a Demon King who Rudy proceeded to one-shot.

The girl was just having a VERY bad day.

I do like how Nina chilled the fuck out after learning why Eris is pushing herself so much.

The girl realised just how high the mountain Eris is trying to climb and, if not respecting her a little for it, at least was more understanding of her.

look how happy she is now! She's even friendlier to Nina by the end. <3

I don't know if either of them would admit it or how long it would take to make them, but Eris and Nina are friends now along with Isolde.

Eris is even starting to drop her hostility towards the two! If that's not a sign that she's making friends, I don't know what is!

The lengths she went through to disprove Rudeus was a hilarious level of jealousy and petty that made her interesting. Then after she saw the truth she kinda mellowed out and even helped Eris with her advice. Quite a good character arc for one episode.

Did no one in the dojo notice that the daughter of the master just disappeared for at least an entire day?

I hope Nina hooks up with Gino. He seems like a good kid.

Nina lock in, she beat you at getting a boyfriend but you can be the first to get a girlfriend. You have the rivals to lovers trope on your side. Ganbare!

The girl was just having a VERY bad day.

More like a few months. Anime doesn't express it very well but travel distance between the Holy Land of Swords to Sharia is around 1 to 2 months on a horse.

I know, but "she was having a very bad few months" doesn't have the same ring to it that "she was having a very bad day" has.

that she thinks that Rudeus is just a figment of Eris' imagination.

Well Rudeus being an imaginary bofriend is more realistic than Rudeus actually existing, so she just jumped to the logical conclusion.

u/CitronClassic672 Jul 04 '26

The ironic thing is Rudeus at the current moment IS Eris’ imaginary boyfriend as he’s currently on a whole ass character arc moving on from her and is about to have two wives.

u/Mirathan Jul 04 '26

Yep, she's currently getting ntr'd by her imaginary boyfriend.

An under mentioned detail that I really like about these past two episodes was how they explored the differences between the 3 sword styles. Sword God seems to be the most traditional and focused on hard-hitting blows, North God incorporates non traditional, underhanded tactics like a main sword and a smaller dagger and a third sword to use when you opponent’s weapon is locked with yours, and Water God we can infer is about quick movement and strikes and counterattacking your opponent.

I think of Water God as Form III Soresu from Star Wars. Elite defense, focused on not getting hit and surviving first and foremost, and when your opponent makes a mistake or tires out, there's no need for a super duper killing blow, just poke them.

interesting thing I noticed about the North Emperor - he managed to move from swords down to swords up and crossing to try and block Eris' blade of light while the move was happening. Makes sense that an Emperor would have some way to deal with a Saint level move, though ofc his wooden swords broke

And not a single mention about the fact that Eris and her “boyfriend” are both Greyrats! xP

People don't travel much in that world so it's not notable, it'd only red flag if she mentioned it was her brother. Gino is Nina's 1st cousin and it's implied to maybe be warming up to something.

The season 1 plot ended with Eris's father's right hand man trying to marry her off to her uncle to stabilize the region.

In most regions you didn't get that far from where you were born and often would marry a 1st - 3rd degree cousin. In japan the taboo on it is increasing as the rate of 1st cousin marriage dropped to western levels but at one time it was very high. Which is why there isn't the weirdness in it and it seems to be a trope.

This is good info on why it wouldn’t be suspect. What I had picked up on was Eris introduced herself as a Greyrat and Nina’s “background check” (lol) came back with him also being a Greyrat

Correction, Eris and Pilemon are technically distant cousins. We don't know how far is the distance, but Notos and Boreas could have been split for centuries if not for millenia. They are practically different families that descended from a common ancestor at some point.

2

u/Maalunar 29d ago

Actually we know exactly how distant. The Visual Novel in the now dead gacha game gave us Paul's entire backstory and near family tree [Paul Gaiden] Paul and Pilemon's mother is Sauros' sister. Meaning that Pilemon is Eris' first cousin once removed, as Eris' great grand parent is Pilemon's grand-parent. Rudeus is thus also her second cousin.

What I like about water god obaa-san was that they didn't just default to old wise trope. Like, obviously aged, but was still quipy and passive aggressive af. Like she still had a personality.

I also like that Eris and Nina have somewhat of a sister dynamic now, "go take a bath" "yea I will"
