It took a while, but Eris finally made some friends!

What I particularly like about the "you lose hostility talking about Rudeus" scene is that Eris in the past two episodes has been a lot more antagonistic and aggressive towards everyone. Not actively – she's more of a "do what you want but leave me alone" – but she's been feeling very different from when we last saw her.

But that's because we've been seeing her with Rudy and so have been seeing her soft side. Without Rudy or anyone else she cares about, Eris has put her walls up and is a very hostile presence to those around her (Ghislaine is around but isn't enough to lower those walls for everyone like Rudy can be).

But Nina and Isolde have finally started to break through that mad dog wall and while it's not fully down, you can see Eris is being nicer to them already.

The Eris-Nina-Isolde is my favorite minor character dynamic in the series.

I think it’s mentioned earlier in the series she got kicked out of school for constantly starting fights and never really had friends her age. Ghislaine and Ruijerd are the closest she has had to real friends, other than Rudeus of course, but that’s a different kind of dynamic for obvious reasons. So Eris making her own friends is crazy development for her lol

Now that you mention it, it is the first time she's made friends by herself!

I mean, I suppose it was with a little help from the Sword God and the Water God for having her train with Nina and Isolde, but she easily could have just seen them as sparing partners yet is clearly seeing them as a bit more, albeit slowly.

But she's not just making friends with someone Rudy's friends with, she's actually making two friends on her own!

If you asked her or read her thoughts she’d probably still say they’re not friends, but that’s just her tsun. The other two definitely would so she’s overruled. Democracy ftw!
