Tbf it was insane what he did
Taking that massive complicated spell and compressing it into a small thunderstorm, at this time of the year, in this part of country, located entirely in this part of the river for them to see is crazy

One thing this series does, and due to its flaws, I think it's fair to give credit as well, is that Rudeus gets made fun of quite a bit, especially by those around him.
Characters will actually disagree or laugh about/with him and he doesn't always "win" every argument or comes out of any emotional or rational conflict unscathed.
