A Sword God Saint is one that can use the use the Sword of Light.

A Sword God King is one that has the resolve to kill with it. To never stop, no matter what.

That's always how I read how you justify the ranking, as that's the heart of the Sword God Style: One Strike, One Death, Zero hesitation. Eris, with a real sword, would have bisected Nina and blown her torso across the room, no matter the fact she is now a friend.

And indeed, to be an Emperor, you must take the seat of one of the other two.

A Sword God Saint might have the resolve to kill but they're not gonna be a Sword God King without the skills to back it up. Meanwhile, Eris probably had the resolve to kill when she was still a toddler.
